Wentz might be the Rams best back-up QB since Goff backed up Wolford, where Goff  had the guts and will to beat the Seahawks in Seattle with a damaged thumb on his throwing hand.

Carson Wentz 4.0 GPA in college…

I actually wanted  Wentz over Goff in the 2016 draft. I don’t know how Wentz will do living in LA  after being in North Dakota for a while now . I made the switch  from  LA to ND and that was culture shock and thermal shock  I hope it’s the beginning of  a great story.

Seeing Wentz in a Rams jersey, feels weird, to me, for some reason.

    Well….good.

Wentz is a mystery.  All the physical talent in the world.   Can McVay do with him what he did with Baker Mayfield.

    I don’t like Wentz much.

But the Rams don’t take my calls anymore so I guess I have no input.

I s’pose you wanted them to bring in Bert Jones for a looksie.

Wentz has been working with Jon Gruden this offseason. Now joins Gruden disciple Sean McVay with the #Rams, as @AaronWilson_NFL first reported.

McVay is far too stubborn. He’s made crucial personnel decisions late even though they seem like no-brainers to everyone else: 1. Z. Thomas @ LT over Noteboom wk 3 2. Waiting until after PIT game to look for alternatives to Maher 3. Waiting until after GB game to upgrade Rypien

Switching around various backups with a starter returning from an injury is not ideal but Rams find themselves doing it two years in a row. 11 months ago (almost to the day), the Rams picked Baker Mayfield up off waivers after previously starting John Wolford and Bryce Perkins in games in which Matthew Stafford was hurt. Now, they sign free agent Carson Wentz after Brett Rypien’s start on Sunday.

    I like the signing.

Wentz is an up and mostly down starting QB. One could call him “failed,” but I think most of that is due to when he was drafted, not relative to every other starter in the league.

The Rams tend to go with up and down backups for their backups (at least in recent years), with the exception of Baker Mayfield.

I think the Rams are going to have to keep at least two starting QBs on the roster at all times. If it’s not Wentz, it should be someone else who can play and win on Sundays, not just a temp for Stafford.

I also like the idea of keeping younger starting caliber backups on the roster, giving them a chance to shine, and trading them if offers are too good to refuse. That can be a shortcut to routinely maximizing the next draft, etc.

Well, I know Wentz has been a dick, but I am hoping he aint stupid.   If he aint stupid he will have learned something by watching what Baker Mayfield did.   Shut up, Get with the program, do well and revive yer career.

See how simple it is  🙂

That pretty much sums up all I have to say about Wentz, and about all I expect from Wentz.

Well…yeah. He’s a 8 year veteran. Veteran of 92 games. Has 2 winning seasons behind him. (That’s presented as a positive–he has lots of experience, and that includes a couple of winning seasons.)

Carson Wentz’s 1-year deal with the Rams includes a $150,000 signing bonus and the prorated amount of a $1.165M base salary. He’s due $732,500 for the remainder of this season as the Rams’ new back-up QB.

That sounds like a pretty good deal for the Rams. Good use of the cap too.

Any word on a potential for a comp pick, if they lose him to free agency this off-season? I need more coffee if I’m gonna force my weary mind to remember the rules. Something something Veterans something something Years Played something something. If memory serves, they didn’t get anything for Miller, Mayfield, or Wagner cuz of their veteran status, but I may be wrong.

Anyway, that’s a side issue. To me, it’s a good pickup, regardless.

That’s the hope. I mean, it’s not just the Rams who didn’t sign him last spring or summer. People say look at the Vikes, they traded for Dobbs. Yeah & didn’t sign Wentz. He has a lot to clean up as a player and teammate. Maybe you’re right, maybe the time off had positive effects.

If they end up with a high pick I think they need to draft a QB.  Caleb Williams, Michael Penix and Bo Nix are all legit. Even better if they can learn behind Stafford with some spot duty for a year or two.

I’m actually against drafting a qb high this year. Though I understand the argument for doing it.

I didn’t know that you are one of those fans who actually liked the “Between Good Quarterbacks” phases in the 90s and 00s.

By the way, where do you get all your camel hair shirts?

Use the draft and free agency to bolster this team (the team they know they have at the end of the 23 season). Compete with Stafford and Donald and a team around them. Draft a qb after round 1 but use the high picks to strengthen the team as is–so, a top player at LOT, or CB, or edge, or DL. Best player out of those positions.

That’s because I think that Stafford is good for 2-3 more seasons (maybe more) and given that, it’s kind of a waste to sit a high-picked qb behind him.
