A month ago German wide receiver Moritz Boehringer seemed destined to get his National Football League chance as an undrafted free agent.

Now, it’s looking like it’ll cost a team a draft choice – perhaps even a mid-rounder – to secure the 22-year-old speedster after he blew up his Pro Day at Florida Atlantic University.

That’s what happens when you’re a 6-foot-4, 225-pounder and run a 4.43 40-yard dash – as Boehringer did at his recent Pro Day – produce a vertical leap of 39 inches and a 10-foot-11 broad jump, complete a 6.65 second three-cone drill and pump out 17 reps in the bench press.

    Look for yourself:

Those are rare numbers for a player at his size, which is why the Rams and a handful of other teams are doing additional due diligence on a player trying to make the jump from the German Football League to the NFL.

If you are wondering who exactly Boehringer is, don’t worry about it. That’s a question most of the NFL is asking.

According to NFL.com, Boehringer’s football ascent essentially began with German junior team in 2013 before joining the German Football League in 2015. As a member of the Schwabisch Hall Unicorns last season, he won the the GFL’s Rookie of the Year award after catching 70 passes for 1,461 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Here are his highlights from last season:

It goes without saying the level of competition needs to be taken into account, but the size, speed and athletic ability is absolutely legit. And considering Boehringer is still in his early 20’s, you can absolutely see a team investing a mid-to-late-round draft pick in him and developing him over the next few years.

The Rams have a definite need at wide receiver, which is why they are among the teams showing deeper interest in Boehringer.

A month ago the investment would have been a free agent invite.

Now it seems it will take a draft pick.

I dunno. Watching those highlites, I get the impression that the GFL is on par with AAA highschool football. Quad A at best. It would be easy for a really athletic guy to stand out in that situation even if he didn’t have exceptional football skills. I hope the Rams are looking at other WR’s with more interest.

I was thinking the samething, but more at a JuCo level…….

I was expecting that the highlight film would use Kraftwerk for background music……..Can’t wait to hear Gruden pronounce Moritz Boehringer’s name during a MNF telecast…

Can’t imagine he would be a 1st or 2nd day pick. More like a UDFA.

I was stationed in Heidelberg about 18 years ago and went to several games. They were a lot of fun with very much a European soccer atmosphere.

It is above JUCO in my opinion but certainly below major power five conference.

He will take some developing, but if he is that athletic it could be worth a late round pick.
