Ag I forget…were they at 90? If so…somebody’s gonna get cut?

July 22, 2014 at 1:54 pm #2185GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantName: Pat Schiller. Number: 53. Position: Outside linebacker. Height: 6-foot-1. Weight: 234. College: Northern Illinois. Under “Pro Day Results” — his audition, essentially, before several N.F.L. scouts at the DeKalb campus of Northern Illinois University earlier in March — were 22 bench presses of 225 pounds, a 35-inch vertical leap and, for a linebacker, a head-turning 4.65 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Under his “Draft Scout Snapshot” was a link to game-highlight footage: a rapid-fire sequence of heat-seeking-missile launches into ball carriers; the all-out, “high-motor” mode of play that garnered No. 53 a team-leading 115 tackles in his senior year, along with second-team All Mid-American Conference and Northern Illinois’s Linebacker of the Year honors. As for Pat’s “Projected Round,” there was, after the word “stock,” a bright red, upward-pointing arrow, followed by the words “shot late.”
July 22, 2014 at 5:14 pm #2194AgamemnonParticipantSome end of roster moves by Rams. Cut LB Tavarius Wilson, WR Diontae Spencer, OT Abasi Salimu, and LB Caleb McSurdy.
— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) July 22, 2014
Wilson, Salimu, and Spencer were all signed as undrafted rookies following draft in May. McSurdy spent time on Rams practice squad last year
— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) July 22, 2014
Added to roster, LB Pat Schiller (as tweeted earlier), LB Lawrence Wilson, and OTs R.J. Dill and D.J. Morrell.
— Jim Thomas (@jthom1) July 22, 2014
None of the 4 Rams newcomers have played in an NFL regular-season game. The moves keep the Rams at the 90-man roster limit.

July 22, 2014 at 6:29 pm #2208MackeyserModeratorIs that what our OL needed? Some Dill?
So does that make our OL a bunch of pickles or potato salad???

July 22, 2014 at 6:31 pm #2209TackleDummyParticipant@JaysonBraddock: #Rams placed Christian Bryant & DT Ethan Westbrooks on non-football injury list
July 22, 2014 at 6:32 pm #2210TackleDummyParticipantIt has been widely thought that Sam and Westbrooks were the favorites for the 9th DL position. Does this tip the scales?
July 22, 2014 at 6:39 pm #2212MackeyserModeratorWOW.
I called the Christian Bryant deal. It’s essentially a medical red-shirt. I didn’t realize that Westbrooks had any issues, but it’s smart, if he’s got even the slightest ding, better to pay him (they’ve already paid him $50k) and keep him in the building learning and training and then he’ll be that much farther along next year.
For both players, this has the potential to be a VERY smart move, a move that requires INVESTMENT, so something that Kroenke does to win that previous ownership would never do, and has the potential to maintain the dominance of our DL as Chris Long ages and continues to stockpile talent with the goal of improving our secondary with a potential game changer in Bryant.
I think based on the remaining players and their talent, it makes it Michael Sam’s job to lose. Not that the Rams will put it that way or that he’ll think of it that way, but I think if everyone plays to their talent, Sam will win the job. Doesn’t always happen which is why they’ll have to earn the job at camp and during preseason games…

A player on an injury list cannot practice with the team. Makes sense, they are injured. But they can attend meetings. They can rehab. And they do not count against the roster limit.

ST. LOUIS — The Rams announced some roster moves on Tuesday afternoon, shortly before their rookies took the practice field for the first time in training camp.
The Rams released offensive tackle Abasi Salimu, wide receiver Diontae Spencer and linebackers Tavarius Wilson and Caleb McSurdy and signed offensive tackle R.J. Dill, offensive guard D.J. Morrell and linebackers Pat Schiller and Lawrence Wilson.
Dill is a 6-7, 310-pounder from Rutgers who has spent time with the Patriots, Chiefs and Jaguars.
Morrell is a 6-6, 325-pounder from Old Dominion who was recently released by the Detroit Lions.
Wilson, 26, is a 6-1, 229-pounder from Connecticut who was a sixth-round pick in 2011. He has been with the Bears, Saints, Titans and Panthers but has not appeared in an NFL regular season game.
Schiller, 25, is a 6-2, 235-pounder from Northern Illinois who was with the Falcons but has yet to appear in an NFL game.
July 22, 2014 at 11:45 pm #2249MackeyserModeratorRight, TD. They can learn and train. They can’t practice. Mental reps and rehab while they see and acclimate to the speed of the pro game. And they have a year to attend meetings so that they can learn the defense, which is huge because usually the brain is behind the body… So, for both physical specimens, their bodies will be able to quickly catch up to their brains…
I’m especially excited about Christian Bryant. I think he’s a STEAL and will be a big deal for the Rams.
