Ogletree is the game’s second-highest paid ILB. Interesting to see what Donald’s deal will eventually look like. Some more financial info on Ogletree’s deal …
Alec Ogletree is on track to be paid $50 million over the next five years with the Rams, including this one. His extension is $42 million over four years, a source confirmed. In average annual value, it slots Ogletree between the deals signed by Christian Kirksey (Browns) and Vontaze Burfict (Bengals) this year. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Ogletree will be paid $33 million over the first three years of the extension.

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Los Angeles Rams announced Thursday that they have signed inside linebacker Alec Ogletree to a four-year extension, keeping him with the team through the 2021 season.
The deal is worth $42 million with $33 million over the first three years, a source tells ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It makes him the second highest paid inside linebacker behind Carolina Panthers star Luke Kuechly.
Ogletree, currently playing on the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, was originally drafted 30th overall by the Rams in 2013 and has totaled 443 tackles in 57 career games. Ogletree’s 28 splash plays since 2014 — consisting of a batted pass, pass defended, forced fumble or interception — are the most among inside linebackers.
The Ogletree deal secures one of three important pending free agents on the Rams’ defense, the other two being safety Lamarcus Joyner (who the team has been interested in signing beyond this year) and cornerback Trumaine Johnson (playing out of his second consecutive franchise tag).
But the big name, of course, is defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who’s only in the third year of his rookie contract but is expected to eventually become the game’s highest-paid defensive player.
Ogletree has been a captain on the Rams the last couple years and led the Rams’ transition from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense under Wade Phillips. The 26-year-old has struggled at times under a new scheme, with Pro Football Focus grading him 81st among 87 qualified linebackers. But the Rams nonetheless value what he brings to their defense and their locker room.
“Alec has evolved into a true leader of our football team, and we are excited to sign him to this extension,” Rams general manager Les Snead said in a statement. “His teammates voted him as a captain in back-to-back seasons for a reason — and it’s not only because of his production, but his character and resiliency. We look forward to Alec helping our team emerge as a consistent winner for years to come.”

The Los Angeles Rams agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension with LB Alec Ogletree, the team announced today. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Alec has evolved into a true leader of our football team and we are excited to sign him to this extension,” Rams General Manager Les Snead said. “His teammates voted him as a captain in back-to-back seasons for a reason – and it’s not only because of his production, but his character and resiliency. We look forward to Alec helping our team emerge as a consistent winner for years to come.”
Through Week 5, Ogletree leads the Rams with 54 total tackles, including 30 solo stops. Additionally, the Georgia product has 2.0 sacks, and 3 PBUs on the season.
In his first four seasons with the Rams, Ogletree has three seasons in the top 10 for highest single-season tackle totals, which is the most of any Ram in history. He enjoyed his most productive season as a professional in 2016 after leading the Rams defense with 171 tackles, the fifth-highest output in franchise history.
Since 2014, no inside linebacker has recorded more “splash plays” (play where batted pass, pass defensed, forced fumble or interception occurs) than Ogletree’s total of 28.

Yes, I think it is a good contract. The guaranteed money is a bit higher than general, but overall more of a team friendly contract. imo

Of, the big names, I think Quinn will get cut next year, Tavon will get cut next year, and Johnson won’t be renewed.yeah i think quinn and austin get cut. and plenty of corners available in the draft next year. need to draft some pass rushers, but they got longacre and ebukam is a developmental guy.
October 13, 2017 at 8:32 am #76020HerzogParticipantI just wonder why his name never comes up when they talk about great linebackers around the league.

i don’t think he’s great. i think it’s more a matter of how you replace him.
cornerback is stronger in the draft and i think there are pass rushers will be available as well in the draft.
inside backers as versatile as ogletree aren’t. and by the time his contract runs out they can sign other guys.

Tavon could be traded for a late round pick. We need to concentrate on getting a LT in next year’s draft. Some good ones to take in round 1. Plus, we have no future at Center as well, that is a need area to draft.
