Well shit, the Rams were the 7th seed for about 4 hours. Now in 8th with the Packers win tonight. In Baltimore next week a Rams win would be a major upset.
    .
I guess the Packers have got their act together. Bummer. Their final 5 games: @ Giants, Bucs, @ Panthers, @ Vikings, Bears. They could easily go 5-0 down the stretch. We better hope Vikings & Seahawks falter down the stretch.

Do you want the #Rams in the playoffs? Well, you are going to have to root against the Vikings and Seahawks moving forward. Here’s their schedules.

Vikings: @ LVR, @ CIN, DET, GB, @ DET
Seahawks: @ SF, PHI, TEN, PIT, AZ

Should the Packers lose any of their cupcake scheduled games here’s what they have: @ NYG, TB, @ CAR, @ MIN, CHI

As long as the Rams keep winning it should all work out.

Given their cupcake schedule, for all practical purposes the Packers are in.

That leaves the Rams, Seahawks, and Vikings battling for the final playoff spot.

The Rams and Seahawks will both likely finish 9-8, but the Rams own the tiebreaker.

The Vikings beat the 49ers but lost to the Bears so it’s hard to know what to expect from them.  They get Jefferson back next week but things are still shaky at QB. At least at the moment, the Vikings own the tiebreaker over the Rams based on a better conference record. However, they could easily lose 3 or more of their final 5 games to finish 8-9 or worse.

I heard that it’s being held in New Hampshire, but that’s none of my business.

Just expanding on what Nittany has said.

As we know the Rams face both Baltimore and SF. But also Wash, NO, and NYG. If they lose 2 of those 5 and end up 9-8, as we know they’re in over Seattle. If they beat either Balt or SF they go 10-7 and it’s unlikely either Minn or Seattle could overtake that.

Assuming the Rams go 9/8, to lose its 6th seed spot GB would have to win only 2 of the next 5 games. They play NYG, Tampa, Carolina, Minn, and Chi. Does anyone see 3 losses in those games? Though anything can happen of course, which doesn’t make it likely.

Minnesota‘s remaining schedule is a meat grinder. I don’t see how they could come out of that in the lead for spot 7. They face the Raiders, but also Cinn, GB, and Detroit twice. The luster is off for Dobbs, who threw 4 INTs against the Bears. If the Rams go 9/8, then Minn has to win 3 games because they have a tie-breaker with the Rams.

Seattle faces SF and Phil in consecutive games. They are capable of beating Pitt, Arz, and Tenn. But then for them to get the 7 spot, they need to be a game up on the Rams. Assuming the Rams go 9/8, to get in Seattle has to win 4 of the next 5. That means they have to beat SF or Phil while also winning the ones they look like the can win.

The upshot of all that is – as always – “Screw Minnesota.”

Which has really been my mantra since 1969 anyway.

The key for the Rams will be getting out of Baltimore with no major injuries.  Winning there would be huge, but incredibly unlikely.  As you point out they don’t have to win this game as long as they beat the teams they should beat.

But this is the Rams.  You know they are going to have a clunker against one of the three teams they should beat (W, NO, NY).

Which means a playoff spot could be on the line for the final game against SF…

I think it’s almost certain that it will be. Which is cool. Having something to play for on the final weekend beats having the season over by Halloween.

OTOH, that will not be a comfortable week because – while I’d like to think the 9ers would just mail it in like the GSOT did against the Eagles in ’99 – there is just something about the 9ers that makes me feel like their JV team would still beat the Rams. The 9ers just look For Real this year, and I’m not sure I can handle it. Their fan base will bust out all their Glory Years merchandise and be insufferable, and I’m sitting right here in the 49er heartland. This week has been bad enough after they shellacked the Eagles.

As long as Matthew Stafford is healthy and slinging the football, I believe in this team. He’s a future Hall of Famer in my book, and he can work wonders with stud wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua at his disposal. And a healthy Kyren Williams provides the ground game to give this offense sweet balance. Still just 37 years old, Sean McVay is an offensive guru and a master motivator. And speaking of Rams coaches, Raheem Morris has done a nice job revitalizing this defense after a down season. Aaron Donald‘s doing Aaron Donald things again, and Los Angeles hasn’t allowed more than 20 points in a game since October.

While the Rams lose head-to-head tiebreaker to the Packers, they swept the season series with the Seahawks and that’s huge. Road games at Baltimore and San Francisco loom large on the remaining schedule. But L.A.’s coaching and quarterback play are special and — most crucially — trustworthy.

The one time in my life that I want the 9ers to win a game and they’re letting the Seahawks hang around.

    21-16 in the 3rd qtr.

I feel if we win our last 5 games, making the playoffs, would be great, but not a guarantee we make the playoffs. But, it will give us a chance. Winning 4 out of our last 5, we will need help, to make it into the playoffs. I’m going off, on what I see.

Not sure if this is clear in the discussion but the Rams have 4 games left, not 5. To me it looks like they get in if they win 3 of their last 4.

There’s only 4 games left, Jack.

The Rams are battling the Seahawks and the Vikings for the final spot.  If the Rams can win 3 out of their final 4 games I think they’ll be in.  Since 3 of those games are against Wash, NO, and NYG, I think that’s doable.  That will get them to 9-8.

The Vikings (7-6) remaining games are against Cin, GB, and Det twice.  They’ll likely lose all of those, but even if they manage to win one their record would be 8-9.

The Seahawks (6-7) have games against Phil, Tenn, Pitt, and Ariz.  They’ll most likely lose to Phil, so even if they win the other 3 games the best their record can be is 9-8.  If the Rams and Seahawks both finish 9-8 the Rams get the wildcard based on head to head.

So, the playoffs are very doable for the Rams.  They just need to win the games they should win.

My bad. My brain is not there. There are 4 games. I do feel we need to win 4 straight. Winning 3 out of 4, we still will need some help. No guarantee.

i may have added to this 4 vs 5 game ambiguity on my game reaction thread to the Raven’s game.   I stated that the Rams play Washington next week, thus  next week, the Rams are in position to win 4 of their last 5 games that they played. e.g, if the Rams beat the Commanders next week, they can claim that they have won 4 of their last 5 games that they recently played.

The Rams should’ve won that freaking game yesterday. Minnesota scoring 3 points to seal a win in Vegas yesterday didn’t help the Rams either.

The good news is, the Giants beat the Packers.

The bad news is, they no longer look like an easy out.

The Rams face the Giants in 3 weeks.

I guess the football gods just aren’t going to hand the Rams a playoff spot.  They’ll have to work for it.
