September 2, 2017 at 4:28 pm #73626nittany ramModeratorA few surprises. Man, there are a lot of guys on that list who can play…Forrest, Harkey, Spruce, Sayles, Shippen…
The cuts would almost lead one to believe the Rams must finally have a decent roster top to bottom.
Yeah, yeah, I know…crazy talk.
September 2, 2017 at 4:51 pm #73627PA RamParticipantI have to say that I was disappointed that Sam Rogers could not have had more of an impact. I’m wondering if he will make the practice squad. Shippen will probably find a job somewhere–he’s too good. Spruce just can’t stay healthy. He has all the talent in the world and can play in this league. He just has to get healthy. Forrest was a surprise. Not sure what happened there. I guess they just like the other guys better.
Now they’ll check the cuts of other teams before finalizing everything, I’m sure. I’d guess they’re really watching the linemen pretty close.

September 2, 2017 at 5:49 pm #73634JackPMillerParticipantIt is not complete yet. We will see who is cut from other rosters, that could be added on to our squad. So, we may not be done yet. I will not be shocked if one of the Safeties gets cut to add on T.J. Ward somehow.
Shocked Austin Blythe made the team, he sux big time.
September 2, 2017 at 5:50 pm #73635Eternal RamnationParticipantSome head scratchers for sure cut Jordan with Countess and Hill looking awful to me and Forest was making plays all over the place but I think Wade knows what he’s doing. 7 wrs, I wonder who goes and who stays after the Thomas suspension.I don’t think Reynolds will let go now he has his foot in the door and he doesn’t quit. OL looks thin when injury history is considered and add in trading for yet another TE. All and all I like the roster, both sides of the ball have been improved , the Offense’s progress in preseason has been far beyond what I expected. Some of these moves could be about 2018 as well.

September 2, 2017 at 6:13 pm #73643znModeratorI count 16 UDFAs (I mean original Rams UDFAs, guys they signed themselves after the last couple of drafts). It includes 2 starters (bolded):
Malcolm Brown, Justin Davis, Johnny Mundt, Darrell Williams, Ethan Westbrooks, Louis Trinca-Pasat, Morgan Fox, Matt Longacre, Cory Littleton, Nicholas Grigsby, Dominique Hatfield, Kevin Peterson, Blake Countess, Cody Davis, Marqui Christian, Johnny Hekker
September 2, 2017 at 6:37 pm #73647InvaderRamModeratorsam rogers?
nooooooooooooooooo!
September 2, 2017 at 8:16 pm #73650PA RamParticipantI must say that Johnny Mundt is a surprise to me. Until he scored the touchdown on Thursday I didn’t even know he existed.

I’m not sure why Troy Hill gets all the love. He seems a bit shaky to me at the spot. But they see more than we do. Also–not sure how his special teams skills are. That can be a factor.

Mundt got hurt early in camp and then got shelved for a while. Apparently, he made a big impression when he could finally participate.
September 2, 2017 at 9:11 pm #73656JackPMillerParticipantI can see Chris Harris getting a call as well. Meaning one of the CBs will get cut.

I didn’t even have Jordan or Forrest ‘on the bubble’, I thought they would make it for sure. But, I am ok with the guys that did make it, just surprised.
September 3, 2017 at 8:48 am #73670znModeratorThere are some unconventional choices there—11 DBs? 9 LBs? and only 8 OL? Seems unbalanced. But here is a possible way to see it. I have no doubt there will be changes, but I can see the logic behind the 8 OL and 9 LBs/11 DBs thing.
If they stock the practice squad with OL they then have people they can promote in case of injuries. They will only have 7 OL active on game days so they can just as easily stash a reserve group on the PS.
On LB—LBs are usually very involved in special teams. So reserve LBs, unlike reserve OL, can serve a game day purpose. So you put them on the roster and not the PS. Plus, they are probably conscious that to different degrees, both Barwin and Quinn are older. So they are grooming future replacements.
It’s the same at safety. It is completely unconventional to have 5 safeties and 6 corners. But then DBs can be used on special teams, plus they could possibly lose Tru, Joyner, and Alexander next year—all 3. So they are as much thinking about the future as anything else.

GM Les Snead Talks Roster Moves: He says they kept 6 safeties and want Isaah Johnson on the Practice Squad, because you want to keep your best players, all of those guys can play in this league, and 3 of the 7 are URFAs. You never know how that is going to turn out. Planning for the future on that.
September 3, 2017 at 9:30 am #73672InvaderRamModeratorjohnny mundt. oregon. had a reputation as a good blocker hist first three years. was having a good senior year then injured his knee.

21 new Rams. Where did they come from?
Unrestricted Free Agency brought us 6. I included Tyronn Walker in this figure. His original signing was as an UFA. Walker, Woods, Whitworth, Sullivan and Webster. Orlovsky was the only UFA signing cut.
Cap cuts from other teams brought us three. Barwin, Blythe and Robey-Coleman.
Two trades. Watkins and Carrier.
Seven draft picks. Everett, Kupp, Johnson, Reynolds, Ebukam, Smart, Price.
Three undrafted free agents. Mundt, Hatfield and Justin Davis. Hatfield was originally a tryout player and only after Ish Adams and Alex Kozun failed their physicals.
One was a futures contract from last year’s practice squad. Peterson.
Only two had connections to McVay.

September 4, 2017 at 10:45 pm #73751InvaderRamModeratorthis is the best wr corps the rams have had in i don’t even know how long. just need the oline to stay healthy. and need goff to learn this offense fast!
