It’s remarkable. One of the ten richest men in the world will probably spend $1 billion on his own campaign before the baseball season even starts and the main threat to democracy is Bernie Sanders supporters being mean online

As far as I know, that has never been said, by any Democrat-Prez candidate in history.

It’s another example of how our media help the Republicans, consciously or unconsciously:

They (Republicans) get to trash America every which way, but somehow retain ownership of the flag, Mom and Apple Pie. Trump won largely by painting a picture of America as a hellhole, eternally victimized, weak, beset from all sides by far more powerful forces only he could stop.

For decades, Republican preachers have been saying their god just punished Americans for their sins, whenever some catastrophe hits us.

But let a left of center figure denounce our actual “sins,” our history of racism, genocide, slavery, our oppression of migrants, our endless wars and coups, etc. etc. . . . and they get slammed for being “anti-American,” or worse.

And, to make this asymmetry even more absurd: Republicans are virtually non-stop lying in their critique, or flat out hysterical. The leftist critique is slam dunk truth.

    Only in America.

ever notice how the Americans who really hate foreigners also tend to hate huge amounts of other Americans?

Fugelsang (FEW-gull-sang) was born on Long Island, New York. Of Danish, German, and Irish descent,[3] he is the son of a former nun and former Franciscan Brother.[4]

Which is funny because just yesterday, my right wing brother was claiming that the Chinese government clamped down on information in the early going with the virus, and that was proof that government-run healthcare is a disaster.

    ZN,

I responded to WV’s Van Gogh thread, to no avail. I think the spam blocker got me for adding links to his letters and museum.

Um, just in case: That would be Van Gogh’s letters and museum. WV probably has those as well, but I didn’t ask Alexa about them yet.

Sorry BT, a day with me long absent. I did fix it though.

    Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez@AOC

I understand disaffected voters because I once was one.

As a waitress, Iā€™d watch pundits on TV talk about how we didnā€™t need to improve the ACA much when almost no one I knew could afford insurance. Or theyā€™d talk about how great the economy was when everyone I knew struggled.

And while folks on TV went on about how we donā€™t need substantive change in America because things ā€œarenā€™t that bad,ā€ I couldnā€™t help but feel lied to.

    Mountains of student debt.
Friends working multiple jobs just to afford rent.
Not one person I worked with had insurance.

There will always be people who make the case against transformative change.

But today our generationā€™s prospects are worse off than our parentsā€™. Today people are dying bc they canā€™t afford insulin. Today the for-profit caging of people is normal.

    I, for one, choose change.

Regardless if you believe Bernie is anti-science, associating himself with Williamson is a major blunder, IMO. This is disappointing.

Oh, i disagree totally. I think that would be like distancing himself from Rogan just because Rogan has some batshit crazy ideas.

Too much purism can really whittle down yer allies to zero.

I want her new-age voting bloc.

Williamson is a LOT of things. Some of them Good. Shes not ‘just-and-only’ an anti-vaxer. I think its a mistake to ‘reduce’ her to only that. All in all, I think she’s a more positive force than, say, 95 percent of Congress.

Well, I hope youā€™re right, but I donā€™t think thereā€™s enough thatā€™s good about her to outweigh whatā€™s bad about her. Ultimately outside of perhaps CA, I think her support will do more harm than good. But maybe she can get those crazy rich white women to stop writing checks to Goop and start writing them to Bernie.
