Peyton Manning Rumors: Los Angeles Rams Refusal To Guarantee Starting Job Drove QB To Retire [VIDEO]

The Los Angeles Rams may have surpassed Peyton Manning as having the most controversial offseason in the NFL.

Not only did the Rams anger some 320,000 people when they deserted the city of St. Louis for the West Coast, but they also apparently forced Manning out of the NFL.

The Rams were the team to show the most interest in signing Manning as a free agent but would not commit to handing him the starting quarterback job in 2016, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said Monday morning, according to International Business Times.

“If you go through the teams in the league that have quarterback questions and openings, there was not one of them that jumped out and said they want Peyton Manning as a starting quarterback,” Schefter said. “There is a quarterback question right now in New York with the Jets, in Houston with the Texans, in Los Angeles with the Rams, in Denver with the Broncos. There was one in Philadelphia until the Eagles signed Sam Bradford last week. Cleveland with the Browns. There is not one team that said ‘we are going after Peyton Manning hard.'”

Schefter then corrected himself, IBT reported.

“Schefter later clarified that the Rams had shown interest in signing Manning but would not guarantee him the starting job, a pill that may have been tough to swallow for a quarterback with Manning’s pride.”

Manning retired Monday after 18 NFL seasons. He’s leaving amid ongoing accusations of HGH use and a 20-year-old allegation that he placed his testicles and scrotum on a former University of Tennessee female athletic trainer.

But Schefter’s comments reveal that Manning would’ve gladly risked further media scrutiny for a chance to play one more season in the NFL. But the Rams denied him that chance.

Figures. They took football away from an entire city; it wouldn’t be beyond them to deprive the rest of the country of one more year of one of the best quarterbacks ever.

He is one of the best ever. But his days of being a good QB in the NFL were most likely over. The Rams were right not to guarantee him a starting job.

I agree. I do not get the animosity in this article. Maybe Peyton will pull a Favre and unretire now that Denver lost out on Osweiller and Denver can showcase him for one more season.

Yeah the article is stupid to blame the Rams. It would be stupid to guarantee him a starting job.

I am almost sure I heard his joints crack as he threw passes in the superbowl.
