I’ve never heard of this ever being a quandary for a player. Though I likely missed it happening over the years. You switch teams. You help them any legal way possible.

It’s probably not a real factor, one way or another. Kinda sorta a “slow newsday” thing.

But on a related issue, having to do with that particular morning show on NFL Network:

I can’t stand their setup and “vibe.” For me, it’s far too frenetic, seeks laughs all too often, wants to entertain us above all else. There’s no seriousness about the game itself when I’ve tuned in to watch it.

Yeah, this is probably when I get an “Ok, Boomer” reaction. But I really miss the days when Frank Gifford used to preview games — before he was on MNF — and the games themselves were narrated by people who thought they mattered, a lot. Summerall, Brookshiser (sp?) come to mind. Some of the folks on the old AFL games too, which escape me at the moment.

As a youngin, the dramatic aspect of NFL football was heightened by the TV coverage, by the way those games were covered. The NFL Network’s morning show deflates that drama for me. It’s more about the TV personalities themselves than the games.

    Oh, well.

I am not too big a fan of Weddle. I don’t think he will be back next year. Just my opinion. I really like Matthews. 😉

I agree. He doesn’t seem to have been much of a factor.

Johnson and Rapp, now that’s a safety combo you can set your watch to.

The guys on Pardon the Interruption made the comment that former Baltimore players seem to do this, and that they’ve never heard of any grousing about their former team. Their deduction was that the entire franchise was thought to be a good one, from top to bottom.

Ironically, it’s the original Cleveland Browns franchise.

As for Weddle: When you say you don’t like him, do you mean his play on the field? I haven’t focused on safety play this year, so I can’t say one way or another. Definitely agree about Matthews. That was an excellent pickup. He really wants to prove Green Bay wrong, and he has.

I like the other Safties better than him. I know he is supposed to be smart. I think his best days are over with.

I go with this on Weddle as a player.

    He lines them up.

And the whole Rams D is better this year than last.

I can’t help but think that him lining them up is one of the main reasons they are better than last year.

Before the Ravens game, the 2019 Rams D is 10th in points, 10th in total yards, 15th in passing yards but also 5th in yards per attempt, 8th in qb rating allowed, 8th in completion % allowed, 2nd in qb hurries & 3rd in qb pressures, 9th in sacks, 8th in tackles for a loss, 5th in yards rushing, and 2nd in yards per rush allowed.

Last year in the regular season, the Rams D was 20th in points, 19th in total yards, 14th in passing yards but 22nd in yards per attempt, 26th in qb rating allowed, 13th in completion % allowed, 24th in sacks, 23rd in yards rushing, and 32nd in yards per rush allowed.

(Note: PFR has no 2018 stats for qb hurries, qb pressures, & tackles for a loss.)

    That’s pretty damm significantly better.

And odds are as I said, Weddle is part of it. Just the lining them up factor.

Though yes he does not make plays.

And the Ravens offense is the biggest challenge they’ve faced so far.

I love old, wise, safeties. George Allen types. Coaches on the field. Slow but more experience than anybody on the other team.

When i first heard about Weddle not ratting on the ravens, it annoyed me. But I’ve mellowed on it. As long as the Ram players are ok with it, I dont care about it.
