Winning ugly on offense.
Playing very well on defense.
It’s almost as if it were the 70s.

October 25, 2015 at 5:06 pm #32896AgamemnonParticipantOctober 25, 2015 at 5:23 pm #32900JackPMillerParticipantI am tired of the number of false starts, and holding calls we get. Granted we played the Browns today, but against better competition, those teams will kill us. The OLine DLine coach needs to do some work on that. That is all I have to say.
October 25, 2015 at 5:27 pm #32901lyserParticipantThe D is great. Too bad the Is so shitty but TG is just hitting his stride, so there is that. I think that is pretty much this team’s identity – -all D all the time. This is what I would expect a solid Rams win to look like….at least they HAVE an identity this year
October 25, 2015 at 5:29 pm #32903nittany ramModeratorThe Rams defense is dominant. It may be the best in the league when you consider how little help they get from the offense. Think of what they would look like if they were paired with an offense that could stay on the field.
The offense struggles but usually manages to get a few big plays every game.

The offsides penalties were maddening but I think that was an anomaly. The Rams weren’t committing as many penalties as previous year’s coming into this game. Now try to enjoy the win, Jack. đ

Ain’t that the truth.

October 25, 2015 at 6:24 pm #32917ZooeyModeratorI know some posters around here who have been advocating for the draft of a true #1 WR for the last…I dunno. 6 or 8 consecutive drafts.
October 25, 2015 at 6:26 pm #32918InvaderRamModeratorthose dbacks hit hard. well coached. i believe that’s what cecil was known for back in the day.
gurley. wow. just wow. more than a wr. more than a qb. more than a rb. rams needed someone on offense who could just be flat out dominant. regardless of position. i just hope fisher does right by him and gets him some help.
rams hit a home run with this guy. just like they did with donald.
October 25, 2015 at 8:21 pm #32931JackPMillerParticipantI accidentally , forgot to right in offsides, but we need our lines to play with more discipline.
October 25, 2015 at 8:47 pm #32932PA RamParticipantLet’s pair the GSOT offense with this defense.
Could you imagine?
They’ve played 6 games plus 4 pre-season games. It really is time the offense gets its act together. Other than Gurley who had 97 yards AFTER contact. They have to get something going with the passing game. I don’t have the answers. But I do know I have seen enough of Cook. He is one big tease. He looks the part–but his head is in the clouds. Against a better offensive team the Rams lose today because of his sloppiness. He constantly catches BEFORE the marker on 3rd downs and can’t get to the marker. He drops passes he should get. He looks sloppy.
I wish they could trade him, really.

October 25, 2015 at 8:59 pm #32933canadaramParticipantMy response is that it makes me happy when the Rams win. To see the defense playing so well sparks joy in my heart. To see Gurley dominating makes me feel smart for fist pumping and exclaiming “yes!” when the Rams drafted him on April 30, 2015. The Rams WRs might not get open that often, but from what I can see from the network cameras they are blocking well downfield.
Yay Rams.

I had the same reaction. Glad to see it was really warranted.

i still remember that moment. realizing gurley was still on the board and hoping against hope the rams would draft him. my favorite draft pick since steven jackson i think.
October 25, 2015 at 9:26 pm #32938InvaderRamModeratorafter watching janoris today i change my mind. if he can play like this the whole season, i hope the rams can re-sign this guy. if they have to let long or laurinaitis go, i would even go there.
i like barron at linebacker. am i crazy?
i like this defense. just need ogletree to come back healthy.
October 25, 2015 at 10:18 pm #32939Eternal RamnationParticipantThis defense may not be elite but they are elite hitters. They are absolutely vicious out there!
October 25, 2015 at 10:25 pm #32941AgamemnonParticipantFIRST HALF:
.
The worst thing about the offense was Cook’s funble. imo
.
Starks and Shelton had about 5 disruptive plays, some to their credit.
.
Brown had a couple wiffs. He could not handle Starks. Robinson had some good blocks in space.
.
.
.
SECOND HALF:
.
Starks beats Brown for a sack.
.
Cook chooses not to block a brown and Gurley is tackled. It might have been a nice run. The Rams score anyway.
.
Robinson gets a stupid holding penalty.October 25, 2015 at 10:36 pm #32944znModeratorThis defense may not be elite but they are elite hitters. They are absolutely vicious out there!
Actually? Before today’s game is factored in…the Rams defense has been:
10th in yards per game
7th in yards per play
3rd in sack percentage
8th in takeaways
9th in points allowed per game
2nd in redzone scoring percentage (TDs only)
Where they lag is completion percentage, rushing yards, and 3rd down conversions.
The one where I hope they improve is 3rd down conversions.
.

if they aren’t already, i think they’re getting there.
i think they’re at least in the top 5 right now, but their goal should be to be the best.
October 25, 2015 at 10:46 pm #32946InvaderRamModeratorcan’t wait until kendricks comes back. healthy. should help the running and passing game.
i think the rams missed him today. i really believe that.
also. i liked seeing the gurdle. that was special.
October 25, 2015 at 11:07 pm #32950InvaderRamModeratorchuck cecil.
October 25, 2015 at 11:11 pm #32951znModeratorI don;t think Chuck is the DB position coach anymore. I think he was promoted out of that into something having to do with general defensive issues. It’s like he’s the Boras to Williams. Or, Boras is the Cecil to Cignetti. Something like that.
October 25, 2015 at 11:21 pm #32952InvaderRamModeratoroh. well. the dbs hit hard anyway.
i guess brandon fisher is dbacks coach now.
he’s doing a great job. this is the best i’ve seen it since fisher’s been here. losing gaines was tough. but joyner has come a long way since last season. jenkins and johnson having their best seasons ever. safeties are all over the place.
i doubted that hiring. but fisher seems to be doing a great job.
October 25, 2015 at 11:57 pm #32953znModeratorYou know, interestingly, the offense did better when they decided at the half to open it up some. In the 2nd half, when they used the no huddle, Foles went 5 of 7 for 78 yards, which is more than 11 per attempt. IMO he was bad in the 1st half not the 2nd.
Here’s Fisher on the 2nd half changes:
=======
http://theramshuddle.com/topic/fisher-foles-gurley-mccleod-donald-jenkins-transcripts/
we picked the tempo up in the second half and cut (Rams QB) Nick (Foles) loose a little bit and we made some plays.
We just canât rely on Todd (Gurley) all the time. At some point itâs going to get hard to run the football, until we start making some plays on the outside. Now, obviously we did. (WR) Kenny (Britt) made a great catch and then drew the big penalty, because Nick (Foles) got the chance to put it on the outside. And we have to continue to work at that.
(On the decision to go with the up-tempo offense in the second half)
It was just a decision I made..
October 26, 2015 at 12:21 am #32955AgamemnonParticipantOctober 26, 2015 at 12:48 am #32961InvaderRamModeratorthe good thing about all this is there’s still potential to get better. offensive line is still shaky. but there’s lots of potential there. as opposed to years’ past where what you had was what you got. nick foles can get better. he’s only in his fourth year.
maybe we see some more of this no huddle stuff in the future? does that play to foles’ strengths? cignetti is still trying to figure out how all the pieces fit together. my guess is this offense looks totally different at game 16 than it did today. again. i don’t know if i could have said that in the past.
October 26, 2015 at 12:50 am #32962InvaderRamModeratorI thought that this was the Rams best game this year. Some players who I thought had their best games this year: Hayes, Jenkins, Barron, and Fairley. I think the Oline is improving.
the best part? their next game could be even better!
team just has to keep focusing on getting better every day.
October 26, 2015 at 8:33 am #32970DakParticipantThe game reminded me a little of the Steelers’ game except the Browns don’t have an elite WR and the Rams didn’t have Gurley.
If not for a great defensive performance, the Rams lose. And, I put a lot of that on Cook, because he’s getting worse, not better. If he would just show up, this offense gets a whole lot better. Someone needs to show him Tavon Austin blocking downfield and compare it with his blocking. Just embarrassing. On that fumble, Cook forgot all fundamentals and just held the ball loosely away from his body. I think he’s just an airhead, and you can’t fix that, obviously.
October 26, 2015 at 11:54 am #32984wvParticipantHaven’t seen it yet, but i watched the hi-lites.
They did what they had to do — win ugly.
Now they have to do it again next week — win ugly.
Just win ugly, baby.
