i’ve seen stafford play all year and his play screams mvp.

i haven’t seen maye play one snap of football. maybe a couple highlights of him running with the ball but that’s it. i only have the metrics to go off.

so with stafford i have tangible plays i can hold onto whereas with maye all i have is a bunch of numbers on a screen.

so i’d have to go with stafford. but what do i know. i only watch the rams.

a.) Stafford broke Tom Brady’s record for the most consecutive TDs thrown (28) without an INT in NFL History.

b.) Stafford is 3rd player in NFL History with at least 45 Touchdown Passes and fewer than 10 Interceptions in a season, joining Tom Brady (2007) and Aaron Rodgers (2011 and 2020).

c.) Stafford is 3rd player in NFL History with multiple TD Passes in 15 games in a season, joining Peyton Manning (2013) and Dan Marino (1984).

d.) Stafford is the only QB in the NFL to throw for 350+ yards in back-to-back games in this 2025 season. He’s done it twice (Weeks 4-5, Weeks 15-16).

e.) Stafford has thrown 2+ passing TDs in 11 consecutive games, tied for the 5th-longest streak in NFL history.

Our staff is handing out seven major awards for one of the most surprising regular seasons in recent memory.

    The MMQB Staff | Jan 7, 2026

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2025-mmqb-award-picks-mvp-rookies-coaches-comeback#_zr3qg3vid

    Our voters:

    Albert Breer, senior NFL reporter
    Conor Orr, senior writer
    Gilberto Manzano, staff writer
    Matt Verderame, staff writer
    Greg Bishop, senior writer
    Michael Rosenberg, senior writer
Andrew Brandt, business of football columnist
    John Pluym, managing editor
    Mitch Goldich, senior editor
    Clare Brennan, associate editor

    MVP

    1. Matthew Stafford: 48 points (8 firsts, 2 seconds)
    2. Drake Maye: 42 points (2 firsts, 8 seconds)
    3. Josh Allen: 19 points (6 thirds, 1 fifth)
    4. Trevor Lawrence: 13 points (2 thirds, 2 fourths, 3 fifths)
    5. Christian McCaffrey: 8 points (2 fourths, 4 fifths)
    6. Jaxon Smith-Njigba: 7 points (3 fourths, 1 fifth)
    7. Myles Garrett: 4 points (2 fourths)
    T-8. James Cook: 3 points (1 third)
    T-8. Sam Darnold: 3 points (1 third)
    10. Justin Herbert: 2 points (1 fourth)
    11. Bo Nix: 1 point (1 fifth)

NFL fans and analysts have been debating between Matthew Stafford and Drake Maye for weeks now, and eight of our 10 voters went with the Rams’ veteran quarterback who had a career year. They were first and second on every ballot. Five other quarterbacks received top-five votes, along with a pair of running backs and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Myles Garrett was the lone defensive player to receive a vote, appearing on two ballots. We will see some of these nonquarterback names again for some of the awards below.

from the writers at least it looks like stafford is the front runner.

mvp and first team all-pro are the two things missing from his resume. that and multiple superbowls would be lovely….

and three more seasons as a ram. for me at least.

and not that he isn’t deserving but there’s a bit of sentiment going into this voting. if he wasn’t at the stage of his career that he was at it would certainly be a much closer race.

I guess they dont announce the MVP until right before the Super Bowl.

It all depends on which 50 humans get to vote. Ya know.

Its a very silly award, but I really want Stafford in the hall of fame, and i think an MVP would clinch that. Without it, and with only one Super Bowl, he’s border-line.

you’re right. it’ll be at the nfl honors ceremony right before the superbowl.

i think that’ll be the thought that goes through a lot of the voters. you look at his career. and it looks like an hof career. multiple 40 td seasons. a superbowl. near the top of most passing categories likely by the time his career is done (which i hope isn’t anytime soon). holds the record for fourth quarter comebacks in a single season. ranks fourth in fourth quarter comebacks all time. the no look throws. the cannon for an arm (maybe hasn’t reached favre status but pretty close). the arm talent combining the flare of the no look passes and all the different arm angles and launch points as well as the pure raw arm strength has to rank among the best all time.

but all that’s missing is an mvp (if he gets mvp an all pro selection would logically follow).

multiple superbowls are not a guarantee. he’s played on really crappy teams for most of his career and that’s affected his winning percentages. but mvp is a weird subjective achievement that writers can control. so i guess he’s at the very least the sentimental favorite. i know i’m stating the obvious. but just emphasizing what everyone is saying and thinking.

If Maye steals the election, i will be storming the Capitol building, in my horns, on the day of the Super Bowl.

just wanted to repost this in this thread since it’s specifically about mvp.

he got his first all pro selection this year so his hof score is currently at 95.7. mvp puts him at 105.6. average score for a qb in the hof is 108. he’d be a virtual lock at that point.

I wasnt sure what that meant. Had to look it up. So the official NFL MVP thing is still pending.

But still, thats a great honor for Stafford.

So the official NFL MVP thing is still pending.

The league MVP is announced at the NFL Honors ceremony, which is usually the Thursday night before the super bowl.

So who gets to decide? Paul Tagliabue? Pete Rozelle?

    A ‘panel.’

“The NFL MVP is chosen by
a panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who regularly cover the league, selected by the Associated Press (AP). These media members cast their votes at the end of the regular season, before the playoffs, and the winner is announced at the NFL Honors ceremony

Each of the 50 voters ranks their top five players for the award.
A weighted points system is used to determine the winner:

First-place votes are worth 10 points.
Second-place votes are worth 5 points.
Third-place votes are worth 3 points.
Fourth-place votes are worth 2 points.
Fifth-place votes are worth 1 point.

The votes are tallied, and the player with the highest total score wins the award. The results are announced at the annual NFL Honors ceremony. ”

Drake Maye is on the Offensive Player of the Year ballot. Not Stafford. Interesting. Does it mean they want to throw Drake a bone because he didnt win MVP?
