Why is it, that Marcus Peters played great for the Chiefs, before he came to the Rams. And then played great for the Ravens after he left the Rams ?

Am i right about that, btw?

I have been wondering about this, in connection with the decision to let Wade go.

I thought he was an idiot. I was glad to see him go. Let him grab crotch with some other team.

You’re partly right but I think a lot of it is an illusion. There was a period in 2018 where Talib was out and both Peters and Wade thought Peters could play man. It was disastrous. They then got Talib back and played more zone to favor Peters. The secondary was fine through the post-season, for example.

I think the idea that Peters played badly with the Rams is an illusion that comes in when they do an average of his grades for his total Rams starts, and the short period where he was a disaster tilts the numbers.

Baltimore wanted him because he fit their defense perfectly and they could count on him just being himself. So he had no severe down period with the Ravens.

If any Rams official or coach doubted Wade because of Peters, I would question their judgment. The Rams are currently the deepest we have ever seen them at CB. First they traded away 2 starters, and the two new starters played well. That was expected of Ramsey but not Hill. Then those 2 missed some games near the end and THEIR replacements played well—Williams and Long. In fact, Wms played exceptionally well. Add to that the fact that Robey-Coleman is regularly described as one of the top slot corners in the league.

So they traded away 2 starters, and then the 2 new starters were good, and then they got injured, and then their 2 replacements were good. THAT is not supposed to happen. Losing 2 corners is supposed to kill you, let alone 4.

And the Rams unusual and extraordinary depth at CB has got to have something to do with coaching. Either that or some form of supernatural intervention.

Wade gets credit for that. He built the deepest Rams secondary we’ve ever seen or heard of.

So no to me, Peters does not indicate anything. Except that he should never have been playing man coverage in that period when Talib was out. But then when Talib came back they fixed it.

I’ve wondered that myself. The Ravens used Peters differently. He was the nickle corner for them. Maybe that allows him to freelance more which is what he likes to do.

Wade likes press corners which Peters never was known for. As talented as he was he wasn’t really a fit so I wonder why they traded for him. I guess he was too talented to pass up.
