This is just a crack at the final roster before the first Pre-Season game. As we all know, players play and that can change things, so I figured I’d make a starting point for where I see the final roster prior to the games being played.
As you see, I have us keeping 6 WRs and 3 RBs. With us doing RB by committee, I think that will work. Plus, I don’t think Pead sticks as other ST warriors step up. Plus, if any WRs go down, Sam can’t afford to lose guys he’s comfortable with, so having this “stable” will be important.
Couple things I’ll note:
I think they actually put Gilbert on the roster because they don’t want their developmental QB poached.
I like the 9 OL, but play and…gulp..you know…can change things.
I like Alex Bayer over Justice Cunningham based on what I’ve read. It’s way early, but I’m giving him the nod at this moment for the 4th slot. Blocking gives him the nod.
I like Michael Sam over Westbrooks which isn’t as easy as that. There is also the question of Carrington versus Conrath and how THAT may affect things. I think Carrington wins out and Carrington gets better penetration. He’s a bit of a Donald-type, but not as good which puts less of an onus to have Conrath and a DE/DT hybrid like Westbrooks as the 9th DL. With Carrington as the 4th DT, you have 2 penetrating DTs and that allows Fisher to spend that last DL spot on a pure pass rusher since Hayes is already used as a hybrid. Thus, since I think Carrington beats out Conrath, I think Sam also beats out Westbrooks. It also helps that Sam is doing well on Special Teams (with the Rams having among the league best ST units now, that’s important). Conrath is also on a ST unit, but I dunno how his loss would impact the Rams since I think it’s not on a coverage unit.
I like Christian Bryant and Maurice Alexander to make the team over Matt Daniels. Bryant is a special player and Mo is already flashing. Fisher is building this team to be special and that means taking special players which Matt Daniels just…isn’t, with all due respect.Anyway, this is my first attempt. I hope to revise it in the coming days as we see the games and have more information.

Well, that’s my early take.
The guys who should end up on other rosters?
Westbrooks: He won’t last on the PS.
Matt Conrath: Not eligible for the PS, he will find a job on a DL somewhere. It’s just that I can’t see him beating out Brockers, Langford, Donald or Carrington. I mean…damn. Other than maybe Detroit with Suh and Fairley, I dunno of a line where any of those guys shouldn’t be able to start at DT. If the Rams could somehow keep 10 DL, Conrath I would think would be safe.Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
August 7, 2014 at 8:52 pm #3529znModeratorInteresting. I only have 2 doubts. I don’t see them keeping 5 safeties; I also don’t see them keeping just 3 RBs. Also, while I don’t know who “the best 53” is, I can see them keeping either 10 OL or 10 DL.
Plus, why do you have that Brady Quinn guy on the DL. That’s a pretty drastic position change.
August 7, 2014 at 9:13 pm #3533MackeyserModeratorDammit. You made me look.
LOL.
I know that they’d LOVE to keep 10 OL and 10 DL. The question is how?
Btw, if we keep 10 OL and 10 DL, those would be Sean Hooey and Matt Conrath.
Ask Ohio State…Christian Bryant is a SPECIAL player… the guy is a guy that just makes things happen and won’t last on the PS.
You may be right about 5 Safeties and it may be Conrath instead of Bryant and they may try to sneak Bryant onto the PS.
What kills me is that I can see several of the guys we try to put on our PS defensively not making it… which is gonna stink for making our PS…

Well to me it was 10 OL or 10 DL. That was partly based on the “who’s your best 53” model. Though…on the OL, they just might be injury conscious too.
Yes this is the year where we hear about Rams cuts being snapped up all over the league.
Some day, I swear, it will reach the point where they have to re-stock the PS anew every week. I swear, that’s coming. It’s on its way. Maybe teams will just give the Rams draft picks, figuring, well they can’t keep them all, so we’ll just wait and see which Boudreau/Waufle/Fassel guys they cut….

I enjoyed reading your Roster. I agree with it mostly. I see Westbrooks as having more pure talent as a Pass Rusher than M. Sam, but then again, Sam has been getting reps with special teams which bodes well for him. Regarding Safety, I think Daniels makes it with Bryant going to the practice squad. By your own logic, Daniels is running with the 1’s on Kick coverage, giving him an adavantage. Bryant didn’t start practicing until earlier this week. Also, in an interview during the time of OTA’s, Kevin Demoff implied that Bryant would be given the equivalent of a red shirt ; the late pick allowed them to select him now and allow him to sit 1 year to allow his broken ankle to completely mend. -
