The #Rams are expected to sign veteran OL Conor McDermott, sources say. The former sixth-round pick of the #Patriots out of UCLA, who started five games last season in his second stint in New England, returns to SoCal to help provide depth to a banged-up offensive line.

This makes sense. #Rams needed offensive line depth in light of the recent injuries and Conor McDermott has familiarity with Mike LaFleur from his time with the Jets.

After Sunday’s practice it’s unsurprising to see them bring in reinforcements while starters heal

Well apparently it ain’t happening.

from https://ramblinfan.com/posts/les-snead-steps-up-as-the-la-rams-rumored-to-reinforce-roster-for-2nd-time-01j4jpz93r43

One player whose name stuck out as struggling to contain Chargers elite pass rushers like Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa was backup RT Warren McClendon. McClendon did see some action in 2023, but it seemed that he is not quite ready to step up and handle the starting role in the absence of Havenstein. That poor performance ignited rumors that Rams GM Les Snead would take immediate action.

The Rams signed OL Conor McDermott and Matt Kaskey, the team announced. More depth as starters heal, and a push for those currently trying to compete in those depth spots after a tough Sunday.

The Rams say they also signed OL Alec Lindstrom

On the Rams signing 3 offensive linemen today, McVay said KT Leveston and Warren McClendon both sustained ankle injuries in Sunday’s joint practice with the Chargers. McClendon was pushing through it.

Limmer got banged up and came out of the game, but when he played he looked good. Big dude with big ass shoulder pads. He just might be second on the depth chart at the OL Center position.

Logan Bruss and AJ Acuri played the entire game and both looked very good. Has Bruss finally turned the corner after a devastating knee injury in his rookie season. He also might be second on the depth chart at the OL Guard position.

Feeling better about the OL after some bad news after the Charger and Cowboy scrimmages.

So do this summer’s injuries hurt the OL? Well yes, on one side of the coin, it does. But on the other side of the coin, it also allows them more time to develop the depth. Guys like McClendon, Limmer, and Bruss…and? who knows? Right now, we’re not even sure who it is.

.
You know with dire reports about the OL coming out of the team scrimmages, it didn’t look like that (developing OL depth) was happening. Now after the Dallas game, it actually looks like it really might be happening.

#Rams starting OL pass pro grades per PFF: RG Logan Bruss: 89.5 LG Zach Thomas: 86.9 C Beaux Limmer: 82.5 RT Warren McClendon Jr.: 74.3 LT AJ Arcuri: 65.1 Only 2 pressures were allowed from the starters both by Arcuri. An absolute unit last night.
.
#Rams LG Zach Thomas was graded as the 3rd overall OL per PFF, RG Logan Bruss was graded at the 6th. In terms of pass protection grade Logan Bruss led the NFL, Zach Thomas finished 4th and Beaux Limmer cracked the top 10 at 9th. Wicked good stuff from the young Rams OL

Rams O line starters and depth is very impressive. Noteboom may be overpaid but there’s arguably not a better backup swing tackle in the game. He can play both guard and tackle spots. Bruss and Limmer look to be viable backups as well as Leveston. McClendon has a future too.

I really think one of the brightest spots in yesterday’s game was Beaux Limmer at center. Having his depth will be great if Jonah can’t go at the start of the season. The more reps he gets, the better he’ll be. Impressive for his first pro game.

OL Logan Bruss

According to Pro Football Focus, Bruss had the highest pass-blocking grade among all offensive linemen in Week 1 of the preseason. He simply looked dominant in pass protection with nobody able to gain much ground on him. In the run game, it was Bruss’ strength that really stood out. It may be too little too late for Bruss, but Sunday’s game against the Cowboys was a positive.

OL Beaux Limmer

Limmer played 44 snaps on Sunday and was the third-highest graded center in pass protection according to Pro Football Focus.

However, he also displayed good strength and ability in the run game before he left due to an injury. The Rams need someone that they can rely on as a backup center on the depth chart behind Steve Avila. Limmer showed plenty of positive moments and it will be interesting to see if the Rams get him some work at guard over the next two weeks.

I have to say, I have been impressed with Warren McClendon in 11-on-11 periods ever since the Rams flipped him to the left tackle spot while Alaric Jackson recovers. Getting a lot of valuable reps there even while playing through a mild ankle issue.

the team addressed the depth of the offensive line in the 2024 NFL Draft. There were no indications that highly-regarded rookie prospects would fall to the Rams at a spot where their selection made sense. But in the case of Arkansas IOL Beaux Limmer, projected to be selected as early as Round 3, his plummet to Round 6 made his selection an easy decision. And per Rams reporter Stu Jackson, that suited Limmer just fine:

“Best case scenario. I mean, he played what I did at a super high level, and he’s gonna be able to catapult me into the next level I’m trying to go to, and teach me all the in and outs of the position. He knows it because he played it. Super blessed and super excited to be coached by Coach Wendell.””

Yes it’s preseason going against 2s, but…everyone in the league is in the preseason going against 2s, so, the Rams grading out this well contrasts with the 29 teams that didn’t grade out this well.

IMO? It’s the OL coach. Wendell is convincing me more every day that he was a great Rams hire.

#Rams LT AJ Arcuri finished his 2024 preseason as the 3rd overall graded offensive lineman per PFF. Heck of a leap for the three-year man out of Michigan State. Logan Bruss finished 4th overall for what it’s worth as well.
me, from moi.com: the showing of the Rams preseason OL IMO speaks very well of the OL coach, which I’ve said before…but fwiw a better witness than me says the same thing:

the fact that the Rams reserve OL looks pretty solid with so many starters dealing with injuries is a credit to position coach Ryan Wendell in just his second season, and to asst. OL coach Zak Kromer + consultant Mike Munchak.

McVay also addressed starting left tackle Alaric Jackson’s two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, though declined to share many details about the situation. McVay did allude to the team’s previous awareness of a situation involving Jackson that “could fall under” the league’s personal conduct policy, though was alerted to the suspension itself last week. McVay also said that there was not a legal process involved in Jackson’s suspension.

Jackson, who is also recovering from an ankle injury, participated in the portion of practice media was allowed to watch. The Rams could potentially be without both starting tackles in Detroit, because Rob Havenstein (ankle) may not return by Week 1, McVay said.

“There’s a possibility (he is back for the opener), there is a possibility that he misses it,” McVay said. “So we’ve got to be able to plan accordingly.” Warren McClendon and Joe Noteboom have been rotating in Havenstein’s place.

Havenstein is not an injured reserve candidate, said McVay — this would require missing four games.

Starting guard Jonah Jackson (shoulder) practiced, and is expected to be ready for Week 1. So will receiver Puka Nacua (knee) and cornerback Darious Williams (hamstring), who were partial participants Monday.
