The Los Angeles Rams have spoken with teams about a potential trade involving star wide receiver Cooper Kupp, league sources said.

Sources with knowledge of those conversations said the Rams indicated to them that they would be open to taking on some of Kupp’s remaining salary in 2024. Kupp’s base salary entering the season was $15 million with a cap number of $29 million. He also is due a $7.5 million roster bonus in March, according to Over the Cap, with $5 million guaranteed. Those sources added that the Rams indicated to them they were seeking a second-round pick.

Kupp, 31, is expected to return from an ankle injury this Thursday night when the Rams host the Minnesota Vikings. He has been out since suffering the injury in Week 2. Prior to the injury, Kupp had 18 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.

While Kupp has missed time to injuries over the last three seasons, he was a key element to their Super Bowl-winning team during the 2021 season and earned the NFL’s triple crown. Much of head coach Sean McVay’s offense has typically run through Kupp.

Trade conversations began between the Rams and other teams earlier this fall, league sources said.

Tuesday afternoon, the Rams opened the 21-day practice window for second-year receiver Puka Nacua. He has been on injured reserve since Week 1, after reaggravating a knee injury suffered during training camp.

Yep.

It also shows that the Rams don’t think they have any shot this season. No hope of getting the gang healthy, and making a run.

Yes, and there are several playoff contenders who seem like they might need some help at receiver. So it’s worth putting the word out there if the Rams FO doesn’t see things turning around this season. Kupp is up there with Bruce and Ellard for me so it would definitely be depressing to see him get traded.

If Cooper Kupp is in fact on his way out — we’ve been extremely impressed by Jordan Whittington so far this season. Big slot, position versatility, understands zone vacancies, can be used in motion both as a blocker and pass catcher, really good down-field run blocker in general.

IMO the Rams should not trade either Kupp or Stafford. I don’t believe either rumor is true at all. Now that being said pay attention to what Schrager is saying… that will be the tale

As soon as Cooper got hurt this year, i was thinking he will be on the trading block now.

I dont think the Rams think they can count on him staying healthy down the road. Its just not a bet they wanna make, given his history and the atrocity this season has been.

He’s been awesome, of course, when he’s healthy. It would make perfect sense for a team like the 49ers or Bucs some contending team to add him this season.

I just hope the Rams dont accept a bullshit offer for him. If its not a really good deal — just keep him.

Agreed. Don’t give him away, like they did Ernest Jones.

For comparison sake:

The Titans traded Ernest Jones back to the NFC West – and got more than the Rams did in August

According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, the Titans are trading Jones to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for linebacker Jerome Baker and a fourth-round pick. And yes, that’s more than the Rams got for Jones less than two months ago when they shocking shipped him off to Tennessee just before the season started.

Somehow, the Titans managed to get more in return for Jones than the Rams did. In the Rams’ deal, they sent Jones and a sixth-round pick to the Titans for a fifth-rounder. It’s obviously a poor reflection on the Rams, who everyone believed should’ve gotten more for Jones but they were apparently desperate to jettison him off the roster.

Odd one. Jones was available for a swap of Day 3 picks at the end of camp, but maybe Rams didn’t want to trade him in division. Seahawks basically paying more draft capital for that and for the Titans to eat the rest of Baker’s base salary (~$1.2m)?

There’s another story here, imo.

Why were the Titans trading the rising star LB Ernest Jones two months after acquiring him for pennies?

yeah. and don’t expect much for kupp.

i mean i’ll be disappointed if they trade him, but if they can save cap space, it might not be a bad idea. if no cap space can be saved, then keep him.

I would guess that the Rams are thinking that Nacua and Kupp are the same guy, only Kupp is a lot more expensive and breaks down a lot.

McVay may prefer a different weapon to the redundancy created with Kupp and Nacua.

I dunno. I thought they were a pretty deadly combo on the field together, and they both are capable of going over the top. So I vote No on this, but the Rams always commit voter fraud, or else “lose” my ballot when it comes to this stuff.
