Case Keenum says he didn’t trust himself in Week 1 blowout loss to the 49ers

The Rams put their trust in Case Keenum, making him the starting quarterback despite the selection of Jared Goff with the No. 1 pick in the draft.

After playing poorly in a season-opening defeat against the San Francisco 49ers, Keenum said Wednesday that he needed to trust himself and not overthink decisions.

“I think I was seeing ghosts,” Keenum said of his struggles against the 49ers. “I was seeing things that weren’t there. I wasn’t trusting myself and my abilities.”

The Rams need Keenum to quickly right himself.

The Seattle Seahawks, fresh off a come-from-behind victory over the Miami Dolphins, are coming to the Coliseum for the Rams’ home opener. Sunday’s game marks Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll’s return to the stadium where he led USC for nine seasons.

Keenum played efficiently during exhibitions, and he appeared to start off smoothly in the first few plays against the 49ers.

But the Rams’ offense fell apart.

Keenum completed 17 of 35 passes for only 130 yards and had two passes intercepted on a night when the 49ers shut down running back Todd Gurley. Keenum was sacked twice and hit hard multiple times.

Was it the same ghosts that Foles used to see?

Eeeeek! The team is haunted! That explains so much.

To be fair though–the ghosts did intercept Keenum twice–so you gotta watch ’em.

People are not getting what he meant IMO. He was saying that he thought the SF defense was doing certain things it wasn’t.

And I don’t believe it anyway. He was just trying to find a way to move beyond his own poor play. So he goes, I did this wrong thing. So I can stop doing that wrong thing now.

It’s like…doctor! doctor! My arm hurts when I do this.
    Doctor: so don’t do that.

It’s a smart person’s post mortem on the simple fact he made some bad decisions.

The truth is, he doesn’t have enough to carry a team himself when it’s behind. He was pressing.

What? You mean you think Keenum really didn’t mean he was seeing actual ghosts? Based on what? We have his direct quote.

To you sir I say balderdash and poppycock.

Yeah, just because zn doesn’t believe in ghosts, doesn’t mean
Keenum didn’t see one, floating around in the intermediate zones.
Frankly, if you look closely at the highlight vid — the one where Keenum is getting buried by pass rushers — way off to the side, almost out of the screen…if you look close…you can see a green monkey. Glaring. And laughing.

Well it’s true that all opinions can be brought into question by careful film study.

But you overestimate the power of green monkey ghosts. Rules changes have made them more or less obsolete.
