That is 745K, plus a bonus of 350k, plus some rinky-dink incentives.
So he is getting 1.095 M.
I would imagine the Rams woulda given him twice that.
Right.

PinPrior to the release of veteran offensive lineman Jake Long and Scott Wells, many viewed the re-signing of free agent tackle Joe Barksdale as one of the team’s main offseason priorities. And as of today, the team has yet to do that.
In early April, he met with the Tennessee Titans, yet left without a deal. According to ESPN’s Field Yates, Barksdale is still meeting with potential suitors.
Barksdale, again, left without immediately inking a deal. It’s widely believed he’d be an upgrade over the team’s current right tackle, Ryan Schraeder, and would most likely step right in as their starter. Offensive line hasn’t been a major focus for the Falcons thus far in the 2015 NFL offseason. They drafted Jake Rodgers in the 7th round of the draft last weekend, and signed former Rams’ backup lineman Mike Person.
The Rams claimed Barksdale off waivers in 2012 after being cast off by the Oakland Raiders, who drafted him in the 3rd round of the 2011 NFL draft. The Rams paid out the remaining three years of his rookie contract, which equated roughly to $1.5 million. He started 29 games for them over the past two seasons.
Barksdale is, in all likelihood, looking to be paid like a premier free agent tackle, and appears to be in no rush to sign with the Rams, or any other team. The Rams, however, appear to be standing firm on their offer price [$3-4 million per], and used the 2015 NFL draft to add a bit of insurance in the event another team is willing to pay Barksdale the contract he seeks.
The Rams addressed their most dire need
in the 2015 NFL Draft by selecting Wisconsin offensive tackle Rob Havenstein in the 2nd round, Louisville OT Jamon Brown [3rd], Iowa OT Andrew Donnal [4th], and Fresno State offensive guard Cody Wichmann in the 6th. They’ve been known to move lineman along their front, and a few of these players possess the versatility to do so. This could allow them to plug in a few holes around the team’s only known starters, Greg Robinson and Rodger Saffold. The team also has high hopes for third year center/guard Barrett Jones.According to St. Louis Post-Dispatch beat writer Jim Thomas, Barksdale has shown interest in returning to the Rams. As of yesterday, aside from his recent visit to Atlanta, the subject had been tabled at Rams’ Park…
Been told RT Joe Barksdale remains interested in re-signing w/Rams, but there have been no talks today.

It appears that up until May 4th, 2 days after the draft, the Rams were still offering Barksdale 3-4 million/year. I wonder what happened?

Sounds like both sides cooled on each other though.
Rams lost any urgency after the draft; JB didn’t like the fact that the Rams wouldn’t meet his demands so left out of pride and spite.
Then again, that;s a TST article, and so maybe they don’t really know and are just running on old info.

You know what happened. He got married. That is when the trouble started. 😉

Yes before marriage when bringing home one rotting carcass would suffice now she demands two.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.

Barksdale signs with Chargers
9 hours ago • By Jim ThomasSAN FRANCISCO • Rams free-agent right tackle Joe Barksdale signed a one-year deal with the San Diego Chargers on Tuesday.
Initial reports said it was a veterans’ minimum deal, with some incentives.
It became clear after the Rams drafted four offensive linemen, including two right tackles, that Barksdale’s tenure in St. Louis was over, although the team maintained contact with Barksdale and his agent post-draft.
“Your goal is always to retain your players, but I think Joe was always looking to go through the (free agent) process, making sure he found the best fit,” Rams executive vice president Kevin Demoff said.
“Obviously in the draft we prepared for a number of possible options.”
GARCIA HIRED BY RAMS
Former Pro Bowl quarterback Jeff Garcia, who interviewed for the Rams’ quarterback coach job in February, has been hired as an offensive assistant.
Barksdale didn’t get his big contract this year. Maybe he figures that if can get 5 million or more per year next year, he will come out ahead?May 20, 2015 at 1:16 pm #24970ZooeyModeratorThis is 2 days after the draft.

I can’t imagine JB refused 3-4 million from the Rams to take a million from the Chargers because his feelings were hurt the Rams wouldn’t give him 6 million.
Most likely is that TST article was out of date with their numbers. The other possibility is that JB is gambling on doing well emough this next season to get a 5-year, $30 million deal next year. That’s bad advice, if that in fact is what he’s doing.
May 20, 2015 at 1:18 pm #24971DakParticipantIt’s a shame, really, because the Rams did need Barksdale, and Barksdale probably would have been fine here with Saffold next to him. But, I can understand the Rams not spending $6M per year on him. Sounds like both sides were waiting to see how the Draft would go … and after the Rams got their RT in the 2nd round, Barksdale had few options. The thing is, this guy wanted to see what the market demanded, and he just wouldn’t accept it. So, sign a 1-year “prove it” deal, and if he comes out looking good, he can make his money next year. Just hope you don’t get injured …

Well I don’t understand it. This shouldn’t have happened.

Joe Barksdale contract has been filed with league. It’s for 1-year, $1.095 million, with incentives that could max it out at $2.095 million.
Barksdale get a $350K signing bonus; $745K base salaries. The additional $1 million in incentives deal with playing time.
Rams offered more to Barksdale way back when, but not as high as the $4 million per year that I mentioned a few days ago.

So it wasn’t 4 M…a number we got from JT…but they did offer more than he ended up getting in SD.
This sounds like one or both of the following happened:
* as players often can be, JB felt insulted by the offer, and was even willing to sign for less elsewhere
* the Rams just moved on after the draft
May 24, 2015 at 12:30 pm #25195znModeratorWagoner from another thread, in his Mailbag chat, on this situation. Best summary IMO.
http://theramshuddle.com/topic/wagoner-rams-mailbag-524/
@nwagoner: I don’t think it’s all that complicated. Barksdale’s side overestimated his value. The Rams had interest in bringing him back as far back as last year but only at a certain price (think something in the range of $2.5 million to $3 million annually). Barksdale bet on himself and believed the market would come his way. He didn’t get any offers in that range and the Rams and other teams began looking at their options. Again, the
Rams liked him but they didn’t love him, and even as far back as the 2014 offseason, they viewed right tackle as a position they could upgrade. So as the offseason goes on and nothing materializes, the Rams might still have interest in him, but you have to remember that many times in these scenarios, egos can get in the way. A player might get his feelings hurt if he doesn’t get what he expected to get and it can be hard to go back to the same locker room after that happens. So it became pretty clear, even before the draft, that the two sides were headed for a breakup. The Rams drafting four offensive linemen only sealed the deal, but this was a long time coming. And while some might argue that the Rams could have signed him for a little more than the Chargers did, it’s almost certain that wouldn’t happen because he wasn’t going to come back at such a low price to compete for a job he believed should have been his for a much higher price in the first place.May 25, 2015 at 8:55 am #25246znModerator@nwagoner: I don’t think it’s all that complicated. Barksdale contract
The now former Rams right tackle, Joe Barksdale, signed a one-year, $1.1 million free-agent contract with the San Diego Chargers last week. It has a $350,000 signing bonus and a $745,000 base salary. Barksdale’s base salary is the minimum for a player with four to six years NFL experience.
Incentives tied to playing time can add $1 million more to Barksdale’s total, putting the overall value at $2.1 million. Even so, that’s less than the Rams were offering at the start of free agency, according to team sources.
It’s clear that Barksdale overestimated his market value.
June 2, 2015 at 11:43 pm #25717AgamemnonParticipantWas there any Rams offer to Joe Barksdale that was better than what he received from San Diego?
by Turf Toe Jones 2:11 PMBoth the Rams and Atlanta offered more money.
by jthomas 2:11 PMFrom Thomas chat. I guess his wifey liked SD? 😉
JT doesn’t really clarify if Barksdale just waited too long or if these offers were still there when he signed with SD.
