Sean McVay sounded optimistic about getting QB Matthew Stafford back post-bye, though nothing is definitive yet.  Stafford coming back depends on grip of football, functionality. That’s why I say “we will see what happens” though optimism + week of rest also noted.

He responded to @LATimesklein question about backup QB with indication that’s not something Rams will be forced to weigh because of “the direction they are headed”.

McVay also says he “feels good” about getting back other injured players such as RT Rob Havenstein, ILB Ernest Jones and then players expected to come back from IR in the weeks post-bye are DL Bobby Brown and RB Kyren Jones. We will see how it all shakes out but he believes Rams

will get “a boost” from a few currently missing starters.

Williams eligible to return from IR in W12

TO REITERATE again as noted all week last week, Stafford coming back depends on grip of football, functionality. That’s why I say “we will see what happens” though optimism + week of rest also noted.

Sean McVay said Tyler Higbee is “fighting through a lot of stuff” and that he’s “playing with something that restricts” his right hand, on his right thumb.

Tried to mix in Brycen Hopkins and Davis Allen, but also mentioned trying figure out the balance between

that and taking a veteran leader and contributor off the field, and what that percentage/threshold is.

“There’s certain plays that we’ve kind of talked about that to try to protect him and get those other guys involved,” McVay said.

Sean McVay says the Rams are preparing for and expecting that Matthew Stafford will return this week and he was able to throw – and grip the ball! – in individuals today. They will also get starting RT Rob Havenstein and starting ILB Ernest Jones back.

McVay said Stafford was able to throw the ball during individual drills during practice today.
Maybe it was the break, a chance to rest and spend time with his newly expanding family that gave back the coach of a 3-6 team some of his signature zip. Seeing with his own eyes in the Rams’ walk-through/drills earlier that day that quarterback Matthew Stafford could throw and grip a football probably didn’t hurt, either.
    .
“Matthew should be ready to go,” McVay said. “He was out there taking part in individual (drills) today, he’s making great progress. We are operating with the anticipation and expectation that he is going to be good to go. He’ll be pushing through, but we expect him to be able to start and play and do his thing and lead the way this week.”

Sean McVay said QB Matthew Stafford will be a full participant in practice today.

Other updates from McVay: Rob Havenstein (calf), Puka Nacua (knee) and Cobie Durant (shoulder) will all be limited in practice today. McVay still expects Havenstein to play vs. Seahawks. Durant is day-to-day, not 100% sure if he’ll play. Nacua being limited is preventative.

Matthew Stafford threw the football. Spin and velocity looked normal in limited media viewing portion of practice so noting small sample size (watched individual drills with RBs and WRs). Light sprinkling of rain. Wearing soft brace/wrap around right thumb.
    .
McVay says Stafford won’t be limited re. gun/under center stuff.

Rams QB Matthew Stafford said he got a full workload in today. “It was nice to get back out there and get my feet wet again, literally and figuratively.” He says he expects to also practice fully Thursday and Friday. Initially feared injury was worse than a sprain. Now, “I feel

pretty confident in my ability to go out there and play at a pretty high level.”

Sean McVay said DB Cobie Durant (shoulder) will be questionable, otherwise everyone else on the injury report should be good to go for Sunday’s game against the Seahawks.

McVay said this is the healthiest the Rams have been since the beginning of the season.

    Rodrigue from https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/nfl-week-11-scores-picks-predictions-schedule-standings/FtxebAih7ALn/jO2r7l5bhVfB/

Stafford fully participated in practice all week, according to he and McVay.

“He’s looked really good,” said McVay. “I haven’t really noticed anything. He’s throwing it like the really special, talented player that we know. He’s had a great energy. He has led great throughout the course of the week. Looking forward to finishing this week off the right way. Let’s let that lead into a good performance for our group on Sunday.”

Stafford wore a soft brace around his right hand/wrist in practice this week. McVay expects him to also do so on Sunday.

“There’s ways that you can adjust it that don’t necessarily … the answer is ‘yes’, and how much it restricts (him) or anything like that, that would be something that he would be able to tell you but I certainly haven’t noticed,” said McVay. “It’s got some flexibility. It’s not quite like, a firm brace that restricts as much as you would think.

“It’s just to be able to stabilize it so that it doesn’t move past certain thresholds because of what that (UCL) is responsible for doing.”

The only player who is listed as “questionable” this week is cornerback Cobie Durant, who is still working through a shoulder stinger. Returning Sunday along with Stafford are starting right tackle Rob Havenstein and starting inside linebacker Ernest Jones, as well as core rotational interior defensive lineman Bobby Brown III. Next week, the Rams expect to get starting running back Kyren Williams off of injured reserve.

    from https://theramswire.usatoday.com/lists/rams-pff-grades-defense-2023-season-first-half/

Here’s a list of the five highest-graded defenders for Los Angeles in the first half of the season (min. 100 snaps played).

    DT Aaron Donald: 89.1
    LB Ernest Jones: 72.1
    DT Kobie Turner: 70.4
    OLB Byron Young: 69.1
    NT Bobby Brown III: 68.9

Brown was playing well before he got hurt, clogging up the middle of the line with his size as a run defender.
