Let me be bold and be the first among us to say, getting your 1st and 2nd qb injured within the space of a few weeks is bad.
In your opinion, should the Rams have drafted a qb high in the last draft?
Did they seem set with a rehabbed Bradford and with Hill?
Would you have drafted a qb high in the last draft anyway?
September 10, 2014 at 3:24 pm #6832wvParticipantI think Greg Robinson and Aaron Donald were
the best picks given the info Snisher had at the time.Bradford seemed fine. Hill seemed like a solid back-up.
I ‘do’ think maybe they shoulda drafted a developmental
guy earlier than the 6th round.A rookie would not save them this year, though. I mean
if they had drafted one early, he’d still be a rookie
and they’d still be screwed this year.…course if this were my team, M.Vick would have
been signed a coupla years ago. For better or worse.w

The Rams did the best they could at QB. Bradford was on track, he looked sharp in preseason. The team got it right.
There’s another side to this QB issue, though. Maybe people are discussing it, and I just haven’t seen it. But the people complaining about the Rams not drafting QBs are forgetting some things that are very important.
This team was VERY BAD for a long time. Draft picks had to be used over the last few years at almost every position, just to field a .500 team. Every draft pick mattered. Developmental picks are great, for teams that can afford that luxury. The Rams couldn’t. They needed every pick to stick, and contribute to the team getting better right away. The team also needed depth, but QB wasn’t a position they could focus on for that.

September 10, 2014 at 4:48 pm #6849AgamemnonParticipantSeptember 10, 2014 at 6:09 pm #6868MackeyserModeratorI was all over Kelvin Benjamin who looks like a superstar even in week 1. Then again, Quick’s doing about all that can be done with the QB situation being what it is.
That said, since Bradford was healthy, any rookie drafted wouldn’t have had enough snaps with the 1s to make a difference and there’s little chance a rookie would be making much of a difference. I say little because Derek Carr is turning heads in Oakland…

I wasn’t versed in QB prospects other than as a casual fan so had no specfific thoughts regarding any of the players. Gilbert might have been more in the third or fourth tier prospect. He must have a smidgeon of potential or I think they’d cut bait.
The thought also crossed my mind in FA that they should go after one of the young vets who left their team not named Sanchez. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Gearing up for the draft will be interesting next year.
Need #1 … healthy QB
Need #2 … healthy backup QB

September 11, 2014 at 12:33 pm #6935PA RamParticipantIn your opinion, should the Rams have drafted a qb high in the last draft?
Well, that depends on what you mean by “high”. In round 1? No.
In round 2? Maybe. Garoppolo was available and I like him. He looked good in preseason–some real potential. However, I liked the Joyner pick so I’m not complaining. It made sense.
But this is all hindsight of course.
The other QBs–the Aaron Murrays and Zach mettenbergers and Mccarrons all went in the 5th or 6th round.
Would any of those guys help right now? Doubtful. No young guy would have been immediate help unless you’re taking Bortles at #2. And he isn’t starting.
But it would have been nice if they already HAD a good young prospect here. 2013s young QBs haven’t set the world on fire yet either. So who knows? If you look at the top prospects the last two drafts no one has established himself yet as a future superstar. So maybe Gilbert will be fine.
Did they seem set with a rehabbed Bradford and with Hill?
Yes. And no. Everyone knew they needed a young QB–it was no secret. Considering what happened–I think we all wish there would have been a Peyton Manning available in the 6th round but that wasn’t realistic. They were somewhat stuck.
Would you have drafted a qb high in the last draft anyway?
No. Not Bortles or Bridgewater. If you draft that guy you’re telling Sam, it’s over. Next year…..

September 11, 2014 at 12:51 pm #6938joemadParticipantconsidering the circumstances at the time………RAMS did the right in not drafting a QB in the high rounds.
I wish they got Mark Sanchez instead of Hill though, because of Shotty’s familiarity in NY and Shawn Hill never really stood out with me during his time in SF.
I will also add, I hope they somehow make Bradford affordable for next year going forward… if not, I envision Dallas signing Bradford and he’ll be their next Roger Staubach… 5 years out of the Navy… only instead of the Navy, he’s 5 years out of STL
I still think Bradford is special QB…
September 11, 2014 at 1:15 pm #6941DakParticipantNo, I wouldn’t have drafted a QB high in that last draft. Well, I might have considered it in the 3rd round, but the people criticizing the Rams for not taking a 3rd rounder sometimes act like that would have been a solution for this year’s dilemma. A rookie QB wouldn’t make any difference right now. Now, if you’re talking long-term, well, that really depends on what you saw in Sam Bradford. Nobody knew his leg would give out again this year, although you could argue that since he’s injury-prone, you should have taken a developmental QB higher than the 6th round. You certainly couldn’t take a QB in the 1st round unless you wanted to get rid of Bradford. When you go back to the draft, the fans who wanted a QB just didn’t like Bradford’s potential moving forward. I was fine with Bradford’s potential, as were the Rams, of course. And I liked Hill as a backup.
What I didn’t realize is that this O-line would underperform early in the season and put their QBs in jeopardy. And, if you told me that Robinson wouldn’t be ready at guard, that would have alarmed me, as well. Maybe we should be discussing whether we should have instead drafted Matthews to replace Jake Long, who seemed like more of an injury risk than Bradford.
For the record, I still like this draft. People are reacting negatively based on one game. Let’s give it some time and see what shakes out. But, the QB situation, to me, would be a mess right now no matter who we drafted at QB this year.

September 12, 2014 at 1:39 am #6990znModeratorLet’s say Bradford can’t play. They give a shot, and regardless, he can’t play.
They will probably add a qb and also probably make an effort to sign Hill.
If they have to rest the future on the young guy, at least I get to test a favorite theory…that you’re better off adding a qb to a more established team then “building around” a qb.
What if they take a young qb with promise AND Bradford CAN still play. Well, in that case, to re-write a line from Young Frankenstein, a quarterback controversy is an ugly thing…and I think it’s just about time we had one.
September 12, 2014 at 11:57 am #7011cgsuddeathParticipantNo I would not have.As anyone can see,it didn’t matter what quarterback plays as he would have surely been injured because of no protection.
