I say yes.
Rams have more than SF can handle.
September 7, 2016 at 9:18 pm #52414ZooeyModeratorYes. Without any nail-biting.
September 7, 2016 at 9:30 pm #52416canadaramParticipantNo. I think Carlos Hyde will be a headache. Also, the Rams secondary will make the Niners passing game look better than it is. Conversely, While the Rams running game will be solid, the passing game will be slow out of the gate.
I also predict that come Tuesday morning I will be the most tired and the most cranky of every Rams fan on Earth.
September 7, 2016 at 9:47 pm #52419InvaderRamModeratori think the niners are a mess. if the rams lose, it would be very disappointing. especially if it’s qb play that is the cause.
i don’t anticipate that happening though.
not against this team.

You said a lot of the things I was thinking.
I just have these nightmares of Carlos Hyde running wild and opening up the secondary for a ripping by…gulp…Blaine Gabbert. What a horrible start that would be. And the screams at that point for Goff will be deafening.
They NEED this game and yet–I can see them losing.
But I will remain the optimist for week #1.
Rams: 23 9ers: 20
GZ makes the field goal to win it.

I honestly believe that for you, that WAS being optimistic.

September 9, 2016 at 1:49 pm #52493wvParticipantKeenum vs Gabbert — This will be the most anticipated, electrifying QB-matchup since…?
There will be no 7-9 Bullshit, Monday Night.
Los Angeles – 24
San Fran Cisco – 9w
vSeptember 9, 2016 at 8:33 pm #52525— X —ParticipantI think they should win. I dunno if they will.
Seems that everything they can go wrong, typically does.
S.F. 49ers 17
L.A. Murphys 13For whatever reason, Fisher seems to get outcoached by lesser coaches early in the season.
You have to be odd, to be number one.

I find the entire pessimism/optimism thing really interesting. PA and I are old friends who go way back and have been teasing one another about the P/O thing for a long time. This is from his “game reaction thread” post following the Chiefs preseason game. The joke here is that his reaction is to the chat room discussion, not the game:
…“as usual” ZN could barely contain his cheerleading efforts. Explaining away the dismal time of possession–ZN insisted that the Rams “wanted to get a look at the defensive guys”. When Goff fumbled he explained that this was simply a “new passing style they were trying out”, something that LOOKS like a fumble but would have gone for a touchdown if only Quick was where he was supposed to be at the time. The penalties were for “pre-season” infractions–just stuff the NFL was trying out and would not have been penalties during the regular season.
We go back and forth like that. It’s a tradition.
I have to admit though I am not used to seeing you be more on the pessimistic side. I think of you as more of an “honest homer” type like me (there is no hint of anything derogatory in that…there is such a thing as an honest homer, a guy who can cheerlead as PA says, but when it’s time will look the objective realities in the eye without flinching). I’m not doing a “what gives.” Just being conversational.
Personally I am still cheerfully optimistic about game 1. I think Keenum has enough to keep them rolling, and I think Gurley is going to be a lot to handle. I think that Quinn and Donald are too much for them to handle. But yes they do have a mixed record in opening games.

…September 10, 2016 at 1:08 am #52539ZooeyModeratorI think the Rams win, and I don’t think it will be close, but I don’t think it will be a dominating blowout, either. I just think the Rams will win solidly. With some mistakes, with some stuff that would cost them against a better team. But the 9ers OL is shaky, and the Rams DL is very good. The Rams’ secondary is unproven, but Gabbert is below average, and so are the WRs. And we do know Johnson and McDonald are good, and Joyner isn’t bad. I could go on, but the point is that the Rams are superior. Not dominant. But superior to the 9ers.

I’m not really being down on the team or the coaches or anything, it’s just that I have a weird feeling about this one. Vinovich is the referee, and I don’t like that guy. When he’s the ref, ill-timed penalties seem to occur to the visiting team, and last year – when he was the zebra – the home team won 12 of 16 games.
While they do seem to be able to handle division foes well (even on the road), it’s the disturbing trend of the team occasionally getting dominated by goofy teams that worries me. Teams that had no business beating us – like last year’s finale where Blaine Gabbert (BLAINE? HIS NAME IS BLAINE???) racked up 354 yards passing on them. Or the chop-block party in Washington. Or the backup TE in Chicago having a career year against them in one game.
Just bracing for the weirdness is all.
Again, I think they should beat them, because – well – they SHOULD.
I just don’t know if the stars will align for the other guys again. Like Kelly will have practiced an abundance of weird plays all off-season specifically to win the opener – and does – but then proceeds to lose the next 12 games. We’re sometimes on the receiving end of those things.
However, if they do win handily, I will have found the secret. It’s my pre-game cautiousness.
And so that, too, will become a ritual of sorts. You have to be odd, to be number one.

Well this is the first time (and ive been posting since 1998), that i have seen anyone post a Referee Stat.
What other strange stats do you know about? What about astrology? Do Scorpio WR’s usually have a big day against the Rams?

vSince 1950, the Rams are 8-8 against the 49ers in games played at the start of the Autumn Equinox.

September 11, 2016 at 12:20 pm #52630sdramParticipantRams Pros:
9ers have a whole new coaching staff and all the unknowns that entails –
Gurley
Blaine Gabbert
keenum can hand off as good as anybody
WR Corp has changed – Torrey Smith and Quinton Patton are the listed starters.
Rams Pass rush is excellent
Kaepernick
Rams special teams(except Zuerlein)
Fisher needs to winRams Cons:
Rival Road game
Kelly can be unpredictable
Rams Run D and secondary is also questionable
49ers kicker has been dependable
Hyde is a stud when healthy
9er oline projects to be a solid, veteran groupPrediction: Rams win 23 to 19
