I heard Bill Polian the other night on Sirius discussing the Rams upcoming season. Basically, he said, the Rams have one of the best defenses in the NFL, but the offense is a complete mystery. He believes the OL has yet to prove itself, the WR group is one of the poorest units in the league and the QB situation is still unsettled until Goff demonstrates he’s a capable NFL QB. The only thing going for the Rams offense is Todd Gurley. He even felt the Rams would benefit by redshirting Goff until the OL proves itself as a reliable unit. In short, he thought the Rams were on the right track by drafting Goff, but, to expect a winning season would be unreasonable. However, he did hedge his comments by saying the defense could be good enough to carry the Rams to the playoffs, but, it would be asking a lot.
He concluded his comments by offering this nugget. The Rams would be taking a big chance if they allow Goff to play behind a sub par offensive line. The quickest way to ruin a rookie QB is to allow them to take unnecessary punishment. It forces them into bad habits and destroys fundamentals. The Rams need to seriously evaluate what type of situation they will be dropping Goff into this season if they start him.
