so i don’t begrudge the new rules on hitting the qb. i get it.

but give the defense something. allow the defensive backs more contact with receivers when they’re running their routes. give them something so that they can get some advantage back.

i’m still a big fan of defense, and these new rules are just making it too easy for offenses to score. it’s ruining the game in my opinion.

even tweaking rules making it harder for offensive linemen to block defensive linemen.

protect the qb so they can stay healthy. but make it easier for defensive backs to cover and defensive linemen to sack qbs LEGALLY.

to me at least. it would be a more exciting game.

Football is not football the way it used to be. Frustrating. I can see making it a little safer, but seeing these roughing the passer penalties, is just sad, and I agree with you on illegal contact calls. Five yards down the field. My @$$. Tired of this defenseless WR crap as well. Granted, I don’t want anyone to get hurt, but it is football, and it is a violent game, and the players knew what they signed up for.

I would have a hard time seeing guys like Ray Nitchke, Dick Butkis, “NightTrain” Lane, Bill Curtis, Lawrence Taylor, and others, having to try and play with thesse rules. In the words of Vince Lombardi,

well giving defenses an advantage without putting ball carriers at risk would seem like a fair move. allowing more contact before the wide receiver catches the ball doesn’t leave them exposed to big hits, but at the same time, it makes it easier for defenders to cover receivers.

likewise putting more emphasis on making it harder for offensive lineman to block defensive lineman while keeping the roughing the passer penalties intact would give the dlinemen more of an advantage without putting the qb at risk to big hits.

i don’t know. i know the league wants more offense. but i’m just proposing an alternative that makes the game safer yet gives the defense some advantages.

    Yeah. But I don’t care.

I never liked tackling with intent to harm It’s a goddamn game. And I get that the players have zillions of dollars at stake, but I just want to see good football games, and when the stars are out because of injury, it compromises the quality of the games. And I love strong defense, too. Grew up on the Rams.

But, seriously, I’m not a fan of tackling with intent to injure. That’s just stupid, imo.

i get that. but i think there are ways of giving advantages to the defense without allowing them to tackle with intent to injure.

allowing defensive backs more contact with the receiver before they catch the ball. allowing offensive linemen less leeway on holding calls.

but the league doesn’t want that. they just want more touchdowns. i like to watch a great defense as much as a great offense any day.
