    I don’t know how this will play out in the future but I can see it going one of two ways:

    1.) Humans become extinct.

    2.) A completely redesigned economy. Endless escalating profit will no longer be possible unless there is a sort of consumer robot. Things will have to go through massive change and it will be very painful and long. But it’s inevitable.

    Yes, one of the two seems likely. It’s interesting, isn’t it? If literally half the world’s population becomes unemployed, what then? We could dispose of them in the coliseum, or battlefield, or mass starvation, or something. Or we have to completely overhaul the economy.

    And it is inevitable.

    Maybe the most fascinating thing about the human experience is that we have so much capability for imagination and ingenuity. And, yet, as a species, we are so scared of change. Maybe I can understand that fear of change in the context of what’s happening right now. It seems that the global-corporate-borg has co-opted the human spirit for its own gain — addressing only the dreaded bottom line on the ledger. When we strive forward and create change only with dollar signs in mind, what room is there to consider what’s good for humanity in toto? What good are humans if they’re not filling a job? Think about your worth right now. If you don’t own a business, or you don’t have a job (or a good job), you’re not as important. That’s just the way it is.

    I think I should start a megachurch. Because, those preachers, they make a lot of money, and we all know that bots don’t have souls, so that can’t take over for a Man of the Lord. I guess the problem is, you’d be competing with other preachers for the dwindling dollars from the poor souls who need saving.

    There is a simple solution. As humans become obsolete they can be used to feed those humans who are still essential.

    wv, perhaps you should relax more. Don’t want your muscles to get all tough and stringy.

    Of course, humans being replaced by automation wouldn’t be as big a problem if our population wasn’t multiplying exponentially.

    Would love to see a negative population growth until we got down to sustainable, environmentally friendly numbers. Obviously I don’t want this to happen through disease, famine, genocide or war. I want it to happen because we finally wake up and realize we need to do it for the future of humanity and every other living thing on the planet.
