White internet-sports-celeb trying to discuss race:

Jon Gruden used a racist trope to describe executive director of the NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith in a 2011 email, the Wall Street Journal reports.

    https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/10/08/jon-gruden-used-racial-trope-demaurice-smith-email

“Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of Michelin tires,” Gruden wrote in a July 2, 2011, email to then Washington general manager Bruce Allen, according to the report. Gruden then was a commentator for ESPN.

At the time, the NFL was in negotiations with Smith’s NFLPA to try and end a lockout.

Gruden, now the coach of the Raiders, told the Wall Street Journal that he didn’t recall writing the email but that he’s “really sorry,” saying he was frustrated with Smith and the NFLPA at the time. He added that he used the term “rubber lips” to describe anyone he thought was lying.

“I was upset,” Gruden told the WSJ. “I used a horrible way of explaining it. I don’t think he’s dumb. I don’t think he’s a liar. I don’t have a racial bone in my body, and I’ve proven that for 58 years.”

    Yeah, so…thing is…

100% of people living in this country are familiar with the history of big-lipped caricatures of African Americans used to mock them in 20th century illustrations. There is no way, absolutely no way that Gruden is unaware of what he did. Even if he isn’t a Proud Boy sympathizer, he went where no white guy can go. It was a racist shot. I’m not buying the “rubber lips” line of defense, even if he DOES use that term (which nobody else has ever used, afaik). Nope.

And I don’t think there is any “atoning.” There’s nothing anybody can do about it. Gruden exposed himself. That happens to famous people. He’s gotta have to live with it, and have it affect his relationships with people however it affects them.

Jim McVay is Sean McVay’s uncle…

Gruden also reportedly exchanged emails with Allen and others that included photos of women wearing only bikini bottoms. One photo reportedly included two Washington Football Team cheerleaders. Per the Times, Gruden and Allen also sometimes included Ed Droste, the co-founder of Hooters; Jim McVay, an executive who has run the Outback Bowl; and Nick Reader, the founder of PDQ Restaurants, in the emails.

Guarantee that the NFL is scurrying around telling EVERYONE to delete
their emails. Its all about ‘optics’ and ‘perception’ in
    NFL-Land.

Trumpies will now adopt Gruden. He’ll be on the tea-party
banquet circuit in a year or two.

The white sports-celebs are cringy and hard to watch on these vids.
They are all “shocked” about Gruden.
The black sports-celebs are, like, “uh,huh”

Gruden and McVay are good friends, right.

    Sigh.

Maybe. They know each other, and share a love of football, and like each other, I guess. I’ve never seen any evidence that they play together outside the office. I have “friends” at work whom I never see socially.

But…maybe they are, and maybe McVay shares similar views. In my experience, there are a lot of a-holes in the human species.

Well, there’s 650,000 emails, I heard. So Gruden isn’t the only human who’s going to come off badly.

    My question is “Why Gruden?”

Next question is…what did they say about Spygate?

Jim McVay (Sean’s uncle) was one of the people Gruden was emailing.
