here are a bunch of gifs of the rams defense vs manning & co… because there are so many they may take a bit of time to load fully. there were a ton of other great plays that i didn’t include because, frankly, the gif count would have probably been 40+. anyway, the rams defense just destroyed the broncos, to say the d punched the broncos in the mouth would be a tremendous understatement, it was nothing short of search and destroy last weekend. as always, these are best viewed in “print view”.
QUINN
rams first defensive play of the game: despite clady’s mugging, quinn says hello to manning, and let’s him know he’s in for a very long day:
altho mcleod’s devasting hit on sanders was heard around the world, quinn also demolished manning on the play, two huge hits, bang bang, one right after the other:
fourth quarter, 4th & 4, in a blink of an eye quinn stunts left and gets to manning, spinning him around, while donald polishes him off (2 views):
fourth quarter, 1st & 10, quinn bats down manning’s pass:
here’s a great shot of quinn’s reaction to jenkins’s delay of game penalty… he saw what jenkins did and, seemingly in disbelief, watches as jenkins casually jogs to his position. quinn then sees the flag thrown, throws his arms up in frustration, and turns again to jenkins and stares him down:
JOHNSON
first quarter, 3rd & 3, welker blatantly and illegally picks gaines springing sanders for an easy 1st down catch. johnson quickly dishes out a little payback to welker:
on the very next play caldwell half-heartedly attempts to block johnson on a running play to the opposite side, seemingly thinking johnson would take the play off as well, instead johnson gave hm a hard shove and almost knocked him on his arse:
second quarter, 1st & 10: johnson makes it look it easy, jumps a shot pass to tamme and breaks it up:
third quarter, 2nd & 11: just a great play by johnson… a quick screen to thomas with caldwell and welker out in front. johnson blows up welker and drops thomas with a solid tackle:
fourth quarter, 2nd & 7: johnson’s great pick (2 views):
GAINES
first quarter, 4th & 5: gaines covers sanders perfectly and breaks up the pass, forcing the broncos to give up the ball on downs:
fourth quarter, 2nd & 18: gaines, untouched, decks manning on a perfectly timed blitz. insult to injury ogletree picks manning off on the play:
LAURINAITIS
first quarter, 3rd & 5: laurinaitis blitzes up the middle untouched, forcing manning to rush his throw with resulted in an incomplete pass and 4th & 5 (which the broncos did not convert):
third quarter, 1st & 10: laurinaitis muscles his way through the b gap on a blitz while brockers muscles his way past clady, causing manning to assume the fetal position:
second quarter, 3rd & 10: great blitz by laurinaitis, crashed through the b gap and forced manning to rush his throw, resulting in a 4th down punt:
SAFETIES
broncos’ opening drive, 3rd & 2: mcdonald sets the coverage tone for the day with a hard hit on thomas that drops him in his tracks, ending the broncos’ first possession:
second quarter, 2nd & 9: mcleod lights up welker (2 views):
fourth quarter, 2nd & 15: mcdonald absolutely annihilates caldwell (2 views):
LINEMEN
first quarter, 1st & 10: donald blows up rg ramirez, the broncos’ best interior lineman, and stuffs anderson:
third quarter, 2nd & 6: tremendous hustle by brockers, chasing down and making the tackle on sanders after a quick screen:

The one guy we need to stop doing stupid things: Jenkins. He just needs to play smart. He doesn’t need to cheat on the ball, or get personal fouls. It looks to me that TruJo is our best CB now. His injury likely had something to do with the defense’s regression earlier this year.

I’ll tell you what. They put on a clinic on how to hit wide receivers legally, and still make an impact in the defensive backfield. The McCleod penalty was just a ref thinking, “Boy, that hit was way too hard not to be a penalty. I better throw this flag or expect hell from the league office.”

Regarding Johnson, perhaps it is just me, but he looks like he has bulked up quite a bit.
