My wish Vance Joseph gets named Denver Broncos Head Coach, Josh McDaniels is named 49ers Head Coach, meaning, we are in good shape to get the Shanahans. Just praying for the Shanahans to tak3 over.

we are in good shape to get the Shanahans

    Let’s hope not.

I don’t want the Shanahans plural.

Dad Shanahan was a mess when it came to the personnel/GM stuff. I have no idea why anyone would want him.

And in terms of giving Kyle advice, there’s always the phone. Just phone Dad. No need to have him on the payroll.

    I like the Shanahans..plural.

I’m not suggesting him for GM…possibly VP of player development. I’m not big on Coaches as GM’s because when in the middle of working on the game planning and such you aren’t working on watching college guys…now that he’s not a coach he will have a different eye for what he’s looking at. The guy knows football and he knows the O Kyle is gonna run…I feel confident in his ability to identify talent along with Snead.

It seems as though our line was built for zone blocking and the Shanahans are a zone blocking O…perfect fit for TG IMO.

A 30-year-old is in strong running for Rams’ head coaching job

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/a-30-year-old-is-in-strong-running-for-rams-head-coaching-job-005130521.html?soc_src=social-sh&soc_trk=tw&utm_content=buffer90229&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer

Washington Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay has emerged as a leading candidate in the Los Angeles Rams’ search for their next head coach, two sources told Yahoo Sports.

The Rams have yet to meet with Atlanta Falcons assistant Kyle Shanahan and are beginning to pare down an expansive list of contenders, but the sources said McVay, who is 30, had an extremely impressive interview last week and moved ahead of some more experienced names on the docket.

McVay would be the youngest coach in NFL history if he were to land the job, breaking a mark set by Lane Kiffin who was named head coach of the Oakland Raiders in January of 2007, four months shy of his 32nd birthday.

But for McVay, landing the job would mean beating a deep pool of competitors. Thus far, the Rams have held court with a multitude of NFL assistants who are considered worthy of head coach consideration. Among them: the New England Patriots’ offensive and defensive coordinators – Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia – Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn and Carolina Panthers defensive backs coach Steve Wilks. The Rams have also sought permission to interview Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Teryl Austin and Houston Texans linebackers coach Mike Vrabel and could continue to expand their list.

The two sources added that coaches currently under contract with other NFL teams have not fallen off the list of consideration, but it has become increasingly unlikely that the Rams would part with draft picks in their pursuit. At least one name that appears to be definitively off the list: ESPN’s Jon Gruden. One source said Gruden spoke with the Rams, but that the former NFL coach was acting in an advisory capacity, offering an “organizational assessment.”

With so many candidates still available, a serious pursuit of McVay by the Rams would likely raise some eyebrows around the NFL. A handful of executives who spoke to Yahoo Sports on Monday night said McVay has a reputation of being one of the bright young minds in the coaching community – but some also added that they believe he was a year or two away from being a serious head coaching candidate.

The reticence appeared to be rooted in three areas. One was McVay’s age (he’ll turn 31 on Jan. 24). Another is his relatively short track record as an NFL coach (he became a full-fledged NFL assistant in 2010 and the Redskins’ coordinator in 2014). And arguably the most pressing: Whether McVay was ready to lead an entire franchise while also building an experienced coaching staff to support him in the effort.

“That’s a big bite at [30 years old],” one executive said. “Recent coaches who have been that young, they clearly weren’t ready for it – situations that seemed to come down to experience issues and maturity issues [with the coaches]. I don’t know [McVay] well enough to say whether that would be a concern. It’s just a lot for anyone, even the most experienced coaches. … My first question to him might be, ‘Tell me who your staff will be.’ Mike Tomlin had a Dick LeBeau in Pittsburgh. Jon [Gruden] had been a head coach for a few years by the time he got to Tampa, but he was still pretty young for that roster. Having Monte Kiffin there was a big advantage for Jon. So that would be my first question for McVay, what kind of experience will be built into the staff.”

NFL Coach Update: L.A. Likes McVay; Denver Eyes Joseph

    Peter King/Sports Illustrated via MMQB

    http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/nfl-head-coach-vacancy-sean-mcvay-rams-mailbag-011117

Lots of email about the Chris Berman retrospective and, because in my Tuesday piece on Berman I didn’t say what I thought of the man, I’ll do that here. But first, let’s look at the coaching carousel, which appears to be moving much faster than we thought a few days ago.

On Monday, the Jaguars announced they were keeping interim coach Doug Marrone as the full-timer, backstopped by two-time Super Bowl-winning coach Tom Coughlin as director of football operations. The Bills, according to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, appear to be closing in on Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott, 42, a well-respected graduate of the Jim Johnson school of defense in Philadelphia. And then there were four. What each vacancy looks like this morning:

    • Denver. The Broncos seem to have it down to two, with Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph having a slight edge over Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. But Joseph was scheduled to leave Denver after an interview Tuesday to keep appointments with the Chargers on Wednesday and the 49ers on Thursday. However—and this might be significant—Joseph had dinner with Elway after their interview and Joseph had not left Denver as of late Tuesday night and was scheduled to stay until this morning. “He has great leadership qualities and a strong vision of what it takes to win,” GM and decider-in-chief John Elway tweeted Tuesday. Longtime Broncos beat man Mike Klis says special-teams coach Dave Toub of Kansas City is still in the equation too. It’s still too early to think Joseph—who then would have a need to build an offensive staff while retaining most defensive assistants, a bit of an awkward scenario—is the better fit over Shanahan. But I’ve heard Elway and club president Joe Ellis were extremely impressed by the Shanahan interview, and that narrowed the early gap between he and the more well-rounded manager he thinks Joseph is. So we’ll see.

    • Los Angeles. There’s always a candidate that comes out of the blue. This year’s guy is growing on the Rams, and fast. The Rams are serious about 30-year-old offensive coordinator Sean McVay of Washington. (Well, he’s not so young. He does turn 31 in two weeks.) He was the play-caller in Washington the past two years under Jay Gruden, and the grandson of Bill Walsh’s director of football operations in San Francisco is well respected by his players. When the Rams interviewed McVay, they found a guy who was totally un-awed by the prospect of being the youngest head coach in the league. He’s been training for it under Gruden. “I’m sure,” Gruden told our Andy Benoit last summer, “he’ll be a head coach a lot sooner than people think.” If McVay’s the call over Houston assistant Mike Vrabel or Buffalo interim coach Anthony Lynn (the Rams loved Lynn when they spoke Sunday), he’ll have to build a veteran staff to help him negotiate the stuff he doesn’t know. But the prospect of McVay, who helped tutor Kirk Cousins into respectability, working with top 2016 pick Jared Goff might be most attractive to the Rams. Keep in mind that owner Stan Kroenke has to approve all hires, and he hasn’t met with the youngster yet. So set nothing in stone here.

    • San Diego. The Chargers favor a candidate with head-coaching experience, which gives former Falcons coach Mike Smith (seven-year mark in Atlanta: 67-50) a leg up. But that’s not a must. The choice will have to be flexible, in case the franchise moves to the Los Angeles ‘burbs this fall and plays as an orphan for two years while the Rams/Chargers palace dreamed up by Rams owner Stan Kroenke is built. Toub is in play here, as is Joseph (slated to interview Wednesday). All along, a defensive coach has seemed to make sense here, with so much young talent on that side of the ball. If not Smith or Joseph, Detroit defensive coordinator Teryl Austin is also liked in San Diego.

    • San Francisco. The Niners know they’ll have to stretch for one of the young stars (Josh McDaniels, Kyle Shanahan), as in a very long-term contract and willingness to allow the pick to help overhaul the culture of this suddenly downtrodden organization. They seem willing to do that, and to lower expectations for the next couple of years while the franchise is rebuilt. An offensive man with the reputation for finding and coaching the quarterback of the future—quite likely not on the roster as we speak—makes the most sense. This is still an open place. The Niners have favorable draft (picks 2, 34, 66 in the first three rounds) and cap positions to sell.

    Rams Head Coach Rumors

    Rams Head Coach Rumors

Here’s a running list of reports and rumors pertaining to the Rams’ head-coaching search. Be sure to check back for the latest news.

    Latest:

Albert Breer says that the Rams’ head-coaching search is the most wide open, which is why Redskins OC Sean McVay could be the candidate who makes the most sense for Los Angeles.
Jason La Canfora would be “shocked” if the Rams don’t hire an offensive-minded head coach and mentions that Redskins OC Sean McVay remains a name to watch for that job.
Mike Silver of NFL Media reports that Redskins OC Sean McVay has “crushed” both of his interviews with the Rams and 49ers.
The Rams will interview Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan for their head-coaching vacancy after Atlanta’s Divisional Round game against the Seahawks, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Albert Breer of TheMMQB.com reports that the Rams have received permission to interview Texans LBs coach Mike Vrabel for their head coaching vacancy. According to Breer, the Rams plan to interview Vrabel after the Texans’ game against the Patriots.
Mike Silver reports that both Patriots coordinators, Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, made positive impressions on the Rams during their head-coaching interviews on Saturday.
According to Adam Schefter, Lions DC Teryl Austin will interview with Chargers and Rams now that Detroit has been eliminated from the playoffs.

Los Angeles: This is the most wide-open search, and my sense is that their focus on assistants is because they’d like to “discover” their own guy. That’s why 30-year-old Redskins offensive coordinator Sean McVay makes the most sense here. The fate of GM Les Snead—who’s been in the interview room along with COO Kevin Demoff and senior assistant Tony Pastoors—would be another piece that needs to fall into place.

I hope that one of the questions the Rams ask is who the next coach will look to bring in as coordinators. And can he get them? If it’s McVay that will be more important with the DC since he’ll be installing his own system on offense.

I have the Shanahans as 1…McVay is has probably risen to #2 on my board…then probably Lynn, not sure about my #3 guy yet.

As stated, I reserve the right to change my mind.

I don’t want McVay. I’m concerned with what coaches he could bring along with him.
I do like the Shanahans as a pair b/c that’s twice as much exposure to different coaches to choose for the staff.
I am hoping papa Shanahan comes along as bench coach or assistant head coach. He is a brilliant tactician from what I’ve read.

Other than that, I want someone that has been a part of a winning organization so they know how to build one. Please no “excellent” coordinators from losing teams.

Agreed…and McVay is being talked about as paired with Phillips…I would like McV/Phillips duo #1 at this point.

If they land one of the 2…and it appears there’s a good chance…I want Phillps with them, even if he wants to run a 3-4 D.

If Sean McVay lands the Rams’ HC job, his top option for DC would be Broncos DC Wade Phillips, per league sources.

    That works.

So it looks like the Bills will hire McDermott.

That would leave SF, SD and LA still searching with all of the coaches rumored to be the Rams prefered candidates still in play.

    Shanahan
    McVay (second interview today)
    McDaniels
    Patricia

When they started talking McVay and Phillips, I put McVay as the favorite. Will they wait to interview Shanahan?

    Then they probably keep Snead.

As other teams land coaches, Rams’ top choices remain available

By RICH HAMMOND / STAFF WRITER

    http://www.ocregister.com/articles/rams-740842-mcvay-coordinator.html

The dominos have started to topple, as NFL teams fill their openings for head coaches, and thus far things have fallen quite nicely for the Rams.

The Rams have yet to make a hire, although on Tuesday they were expected to interview Washington offensive coordinator Sean McVay again, this time in Southern California. Moreover, the candidates presumed to be most attractive to the Rams all remain available.

Jacksonville retained interim coach Doug Marrone on a permanent basis this week and, on Tuesday, Denver announced the hiring of Miami defensive coordinator Vance Joseph. According to one published report, Buffalo is leaning toward Carolina defensive coordinator Sean McDermott.

Those moves would leave three NFL openings – the Rams, San Diego and San Francisco – and plenty of desirable, offensive-minded candidates.

McVay and three other talented offensive coordinators – Atlanta’s Kyle Shanahan, New England’s Josh McDaniels and Buffalo’s Anthony Lynn – remain available, but the pertinent question for the Rams is, how long can they afford to wait?

The Rams missed their interview with Shanahan last weekend because of weather-related travel problems and tentatively have re-scheduled an interview for Sunday, the day after the Falcons’ playoff game against Seattle.

Clearly the Rams remain high on McVay, but he is also believed to be a strong candidate for the 49ers’ opening. The Rams would like to talk to Shanahan, but by waiting for him, they might run the risk of losing McVay to another team.

McVay, not particularly considered a top-tier candidate last month, has vaulted up amid published reports that he is impressing team executives during the interview process.

McVay, who turns 31 on Jan. 24, would become the youngest head coach in NFL history. Lane Kiffin was 31 years, 8 months, when Oakland hired him in 2007.

A former high school quarterback, McVay has a good lineage. He’s the grandson of John McVay, a top San Francisco 49ers executive during their successful run in the 1980s, and McVay’s mentors include former NFL coach Jon Gruden, who is well-regarded by the Rams.

McVay could be intriguing to the Rams for another reason. ESPN reported Tuesday that, should McVay be hired as a head coach, Wade Phillips would be his top choice as defensive coordinator. Phillips, 69, has been an NFL coordinator (and head coach) since 1981.

The Rams have interviewed Buffalo offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn and New England coordinators Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia, all of whom are considered strong candidates. The Rams are considered likely to conduct second interviews with multiple candidates.

thinking about it i want shanahan. he’s just got the better resume. more qbs he’s worked with and helped develop. shoot. he helped develop cousins too!

but it isn’t just that. he’s developed running backs. at all stops. he’d be great for gurley.

but it’s not just that. he’s made a positive impact on offenses. at all stops. his system is proven with several different personnel. with different quarterbacks.

but i go back to the running game. it’s not just about goff for me. i think the fit needs to be good for gurley too.

i just don’t see that breadth with mcvay. that makes a difference to me. and i don’t care that gruden says mcvay is gonna be really good. i could care less about that guy’s opinion. i just see what shanny has done, and i believe it’s the perfect fit for both goff and gurley. as well as the oline. and the receivers for that matter. i remember what shanny did with those no name receivers when they went up against the rams without julio.

All great points, and I see things the same way.

For me, and I’ve said it here a few times so…broken record time….it’s about the coordinators. I don’t have a clue who Shanahan is proposing and not even sure if McVey really has Phillips in the bag….but if he does, it sure got my spirits up.
