Hard to say where the OL stands until we see what the new configuration looks like live.
Hard to say where WR stands until we see what they look like live too. Not that it will be superlative but it might be fairly decent.
Outside of that, in alphabetical order. –>
Center
Cornerback
DE (left side)
Edge Rusher/LB (behind Quinn and Barwin, cause, it’s a crucial position for this D and so they need 3 since Barwin is 31 and Quinn has been hurt)
Free Safety (Alexander to strong safety?)
Receiver (another one won’t hurt)
Tight End (we just don;t know about Higbee and it’s an important position)I wouldn’t know how to rank those. I suppose center is the priority but the other 6 are all equal in importance to one another IMO. So it’s, center #1 plus 6 others tied for #2.
March 25, 2017 at 1:50 am #66662InvaderRamModeratori would rank it:
1. center – without a solid oline the offense won’t operate.
2. tight end – they definitely need more skill position players. they have money invested in woods and austin and some young players with potential, so i would say wr is less of a priority. but the mcvay offense uses tight ends heavily. as many as 3 and all i see is potential.
3. cb/safety/defensive end – secondary is depleted. also no left defensive end to speak of. maybe a rotation involvingbrockers and others?
4. lb/wr – they have talent at these positions but could always use depth.March 25, 2017 at 2:09 am #66663InvaderRamModeratorthinking about it and thinking about it.
it’d be hard for this regime not to go offense with their first pick. they’ve invested so much already in giving goff the best possible chance of success. from coaching hires to free agency. but i don’t think there’s a center worth taking that early. maybe in the third round with a stopgap center to be signed in free agency.
i think it comes down to tight end because it fits need and this is a loaded class. it will most likely be engram if he’s available. if not then someone like bucky hodges. the advantage of guys like these is they could probably be lined up like wide receivers in certain instances. shoot i’ve read that hodges was used almost exclusively at wide receiver last season. huge red zone targets too for goff.

March 25, 2017 at 4:35 am #66665Eternal RamnationParticipantIt seems to me that this staff knows what the want to do, are changing the culture their plans differ greatly from the previous staff. It just seems like a developmental year. They’ve made huge changes but can’t really start building until they have a full draft. I expect them to develop the identity this year and flesh it out in 2018 through the draft. They need people everywhere since they’ve lost so many and have no 1st round pick. They seem to have confidence in the young LBs coming up. I would say center is the biggest need. I don’t think they’re expect to win right away just get Goff settled Gurley grounded an G -Rob broke down and built up right ( Imo that’s the plan moving him to the Right side)

I’m of the same thinking. Since you have proved yourself as a Kreskin stand in, I will say…good post.

vGoff, to me, it’s just how fast he can get up to NFL level gamespeed. The mental part of the game–seeing the defense pre-snap and acting accordingly, being in tune with his receivers, that kind of thing. He has the arm, the accuracy, and the mental toughness. He just needs to learn the algebra.
Though of course, there’s no pure guarantee he will learn that, let alone fast enough.
But, I think he can and will.

what gives me hope is not just the mcvay signing but the olson and lafleur signings. lafleur in particular is a signing i was glad to see.
and then there’s goff’s toughness. but he’s got to bulk up. too skinny right now.

I’m OK with a stop gap, but still feel they need to invest a higher draft pick for a snapper.
