    Rams Power Rankings: Week 10

In Week 9, the Rams trounced the Giants putting up 51 points and forcing three first half takeaways to improve to 6-2. With the win, Los Angeles remains undefeated in games played away from the Coliseum. But after three-straight on the road, L.A. will be back home for a Week 10 matchup with the Texans on Sunday.

Every week, TheRams.com will be taking an aggregate look at where the team ranks in different outlets across the sports media landscape. Here are the power rankings for the Rams heading into Week 10:

    NFL.com, Elliot Harrison Rank: 2

“Nothing like a slot receiver screen on third-and-33, huh? The most gnarly feedback received on Twitter and the “NFL Power Rankings” show this past week came as a result of the Rams being second in last week’s rankings. When a team is off for a week, like Los Angeles was in Week 8, and everyone around that team wins, fans want me to drop said team automatically. Cool. So that was 51 points on the road for a team that “ruined” my credibility here. Think there’s more upside, too, specifically for coordinator Wade Phillips’ defense as we enter the back half of the season. This group is going to the playoffs.”

    ESPN.com Rank: 7

    Last Week: 8

    Change: + 1

“Preseason ranking: 27. The biggest risers since the preseason edition of our rankings are the Rams, who lead the NFL in scoring with 32.9 points per game. How good has the offense been? They’ve scored 40 points three times this season. The last time the Rams did that in a season was in 2001, when they reached Super Bowl XXXVI.”

    Yahoo! Shutdown Corner Rank: 5

    Last Week: 7

    Change: + 2

“The Rams are for real. Say whatever you will about the Giants, but it’s hard to go on the road and beat any NFL team 51-17. Lost in the gushing over Jared Goff, which is justified, the Rams’ defense has allowed 16, 17, 0 and 17 points the last four games. You knew Wade Phillips would get that unit going.”

    The Washington Post Rank: 4

    Last Week: 5

    Change: + 1

“The Rams are back in the driver’s seat in the NFC West. The Seahawks say they aren’t ready to step aside for the Rams. But the Rams might not be giving them any choice.”

    USA Today Rank: 4

    Last Week: 6

    Change: + 2

“They’re just blowing doors off their opponents lately. Some credit must go to the defense, which has allowed 12.5 points per game over last four.”

CBS Sports, Pete Prisco Rank: 4

    Last Week: 5

    Change: + 1

“They are not just a good story anymore. They are legitimate playoff contenders — and maybe more.”

    Sports Illustrated Rank: 6

That’s kind of a Pat Shumer call, isn’t it?

    It is.

Shurmur is actually doing pretty well for himself. Right now he’s the coordinator in Minnesota. They were able to field the league’s 11th ranked offense with Keenum starting the last 6 games (they’ve gone 5-1 with Keenum).

Football Outsiders Week 9 DVOA Rankings: a new

I don’t think the Rams are the best team in the league. But at this point it’s pretty apparent they’re one of the top 7-8. Even accounting for having 4 wins vs. bottom 6 teams in the league (winning those by 26 ppg) they’re playing very well.

I look more at the individual unit and player rankings on Football Outsiders than the overall rankings. But still, the further a season goes along the more accurate their rankings tend to get.

    Los Angeles Rams
    Overall Rank: 1st
    Offense: 9th
    Defense: 3rd
    Special Teams: 1st

    Passing offense: 2nd
    Rushing offense: 15th

    Pass Defense: 3rd
    Run Defense: 20th

    Special Teams
    FG/XP: 1st
    Kick coverage: t-16th
    Kick return: 1st
    Punt coverage: 9th
    Punt return: 27th

    Offensive Line
    Run blocking: 5th
    Pass protection: 2nd

    Defensive Line
    Run defense: 15th
    Pass rush: 6th

    Player Rankings
QB Jared Goff: 5th among 33 ranked QBs
RB Todd Gurley: 16th among 32 ranked RBs rushing; 7th among 42 RBs receiving
WR Robert Woods: 19th among 69 ranked WRs
WR Cooper Kupp: 20th among 69 ranked WRs
WR Sammy Watkins- DNQ (less than 36 targets)
WR Tavon Austin: 2nd among 22 ranked WRs rushing
TE Tyler Higbee; 37th among 40 ranked TEs
TE Gerald Everett: DNQ (less than 18 targets)

In the final 8 games, Rams play:

    – all 3 division rivals (including Arizona and Seattle on the road)

    – 4 (current) division leaders: Minn, Phil, N.O., & Tenn (their average record as a group: 6-2)

    Plus, Houston.

    Holy shit. That’s excessively difficult

Yep. So far the Rams have beaten only one team with a winning record: Jacksonville.

They are, however, beating the living daylights out of the bad teams, and would have beaten Seattle if Gurley’s lost ball hadn’t nicked the pylon on the way out of bounds.

I don’t think this team is Super Bowl bound, but they are a top ten team, so they are going to compete favorably against the rest of the schedule. I think.

The Rams have weapons. They have weapons that they haven’t used yet. You are always dangerous when you can score.
