Nick Foles to the Eagles? Don’t believe the rumor

    Eliot Shorr-Parks

    http://www.nj.com/eagles/index.ssf/2016/02/nick_foles_to_the_eagles_how_an_internet_rumor_dom.html

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — Welcome to Super Bowl Sunday, the ending of a crazy week filled with hype and hysteria for the big game between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.

And now also a week featuring one rumor that has Eagles fans going wild just a few hours before the game.

    How did it begin?

At around 10:21 a.m. EST on Sunday, an Eagles’ fan posted this (alleged) alert from ESPN:

The tweet sent Eagles’ fans into a frenzy, as it wasn’t followed up by any actual report on Twitter or TV from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who supposedly reported the information that caused the alert.

For now, it is safe to assume the alert isn’t true, and this is Twitter playing a joke on the craziest NFL day of the year.

It is also safe to assume Nick Foles coming back to the Eagles isn’t true for a number of other reasons.

Walking through radio row, Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch didn’t have the profile that a certain quarterback playing in Super Bowl 50 this Sunday has.

To start, Eagles’ top personnel executive Howie Roseman is not a fan of Foles. He didn’t want to draft him in 2012, and instead wanted Kirk Cousins, who ended up with the Washington Redskins.

In addition, even after Foles made the Pro Bowl in 2014, Roseman was not a fan of Foles, and was just as open to trading the quarterback as former-head coach Chip Kelly was. It was one of the few things the two agreed on.

The one supporter Foles might have in the NovaCare Complex is new head coach Doug Pederson, who coached Foles in 2012.

It is unrealistic, however, to think Pederson has the kind of pull to make Roseman get over his dislike for Foles and re-acquire the quarterback — especially for $8.75 million, which Foles is set to make next season.

    Is anything possible? Sure.

But for now, enjoy Super Bowl Sunday and don’t believe what the internet is telling you abut Foles.

Foles and re-acquire the quarterback — especially for $8.75 million, which Foles is set to make next season.

    Getting facts right.

Near as we can tell from public info currently available, anyone trading for Foles (or signing him if he’s cut) gets him for 1.75 M in 2016. Rams eat the rest.

That seems to be the case. Although Snead indicated it might not be on radio. But, he didn’t explain his remarks. He just said people don’t know what all is in the contracts that are written. Either way, it would be ironic if Foles ended up back in Philly. 😉

Snead on Foles ( + the full interview)

His contract is not exactly that. I don’t want to get into the exact numbers, but it’s about half of that. There’s a lot of things that get written about contracts. The answer from a salary standpoint is, yes, he’s easily keepable.

It wasn’t a good question and that makes the answer a bit unclear. I will assume the Rams are on the hook for everything except is 1.7M salary this year.

After watching Foles implode last season, who in their right mind would want him?

Foles has had a great season, a mediocre season and a horrible season – in that order. Not the sort of trend you want to see in a QB.

I’m not even sure he’s worth a look at $1.75 million.

Well, just because it would be fun, I want the following to happen:

    1. Rams sign Bradford

    2. Eagles trade for Foles

Keenum seems just a good as Foles. I think Mannion is better and I think at least 6 QBs in this draft are better than Foles. A trade would be a blessing. imo

    On the other hand……

    Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
A name to watch with Eagles’ off-season QB maneuvers: Nick Foles. Eagles’ HC Doug Pederson drafted Foles and is interested, per NFL sources.

    Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Eagles are not expected to use franchise tag on QB Sam Bradford, per league sources, though they still have some interest in re-signing him.

This has been floating around in my mind, too.

    I would take Bradford back.

Could Nick Foles be headed for a Philadelphia reunion?

    Nick Wagoner

    http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/26713/could-nick-foles-be-headed-for-a-philadelphia-reunion

EARTH CITY, Mo. — If the Los Angeles Rams are going to add to their quarterback position this offseason, the reality is that they’re going to have to subtract at least one of the players currently on the depth chart.

Odds are that if they have to choose one signal-caller to delete, it will be veteran Nick Foles. Last week, I explored the Rams’ options and what it would cost to let Foles go.

Of course, that didn’t account for the (seemingly unlikely) chance that they’d be able to trade Foles. That could be where the Philadelphia Eagles come in, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter reported that new Eagles coach Doug Pederson could be interested in a reunion with Foles as the Eagles go into this offseason. That’s because Schefter also reported that though Philadelphia has interest in keeping quarterback Sam Bradford, it is unlikely to use the franchise tag to make sure that happens. If Bradford walks, the Eagles would be in the market for a quarterback all over again.

So, is an Eagles-Foles reunion feasible and would it work? Well, it depends on who you ask.

Phillyvoice.com’s Jimmy Kempski makes the case for a Foles-for-DeMarco Murray swap.

NJ.com’s Elliott Shorr-Parks is far more skeptical of a possible Foles return.

Regardless, the Rams have to find a way to get better at quarterback. Finding a taker for Foles, especially via trade (even if it only nets a late-round pick), would be ideal because it would save the Rams a big chunk of money against the salary cap. Of course, that’s also the reason it will be very difficult to find a team willing to trade for him.
