So what were Fisher’s biggest mistakes? What CAN we flat-out Fault
him for?w
vDecember 13, 2016 at 9:46 pm #60984InvaderRamModeratorhiring rob boras as offensive coordinator.
trading up for goff.
i absolutely put those decisions on him.
not that i think goff will be a bust. but it was a bad trade. given the state of this offense, it was a bad trade.
December 13, 2016 at 10:06 pm #60985wvParticipantI think Snisher has done a poor job of drafting/signing/developing WRs.
I mean, even a guy like Anquan Boldin woulda helped.

Ok but thats a damn big Failure.w
vDecember 14, 2016 at 2:35 pm #61050sanbaggerParticipantThere was a revolving door of coaches during Fishers reign. I don’t believe he ever was able to get continuity on offense and until GW came along the defense as well.
I would have liked more attention to the O-line. For 3 years running, at draft time, I had a list of available centers yelling names at the TV….maybe Jack would hear me and draft them.
I still believe Fisher is a good football coach and I was thrilled when they landed him, but I can’t fault management for going in a different direction.

I’m absolutely convinced this was by design. He wanted a power running scheme to control the clock and then win the game with defense. In the end, his stubbornness sealed his fate.
And this is why I was against his hiring.

IMO GW was a great hire.
.
Meh, I am not impressed by GW. He had the benefit of having a bunch of high first round picks on the D-line and (I assume) a free hand from Fisher to scheme and run the defense as he wanted, and we still give up yards and points like Cleveland. And the loss to Miami was a defensive collapse in the last 10 minutes of the game; the defense did not carry the offense to a difficult win often enough. And how hard did Fisher/Snead even look for DC? He made up his mind even before the fallout from Bountygate that he was going to retain GW. I’m just saying this defense has had some great games, some bad ones, and just has not established itself despite having the talent to do so.
December 15, 2016 at 12:52 pm #61124znModeratorand points like Cleveland
In the last 3 games. True. Not in the previous 26 though.
December 15, 2016 at 1:41 pm #61127ZooeyModeratorAs long as we are sacking people, Williams and Fassel are the only ones I’d keep. Maybe Waffle, but I can’t tell how much there is talent, and how much coaching. The DL underperformed along with every other unit that didn’t involve kicking the damn ball.

Speaking of Center, I want to draft Pat Elflien with our first pick, which is our 2nd round pick. He is the Center for Ohio State.
December 15, 2016 at 2:21 pm #61131JackPMillerParticipantIf we can fault him for anything it is he can be too soft on players. Sure for certain players, if they break rules there are consequences, but that may not be like that for bigger name players. He treated training camp more as a vacation, not as a boot camp. The team was always undisciplined. Plus, he was never good at developing an OLine.
December 15, 2016 at 2:45 pm #61132sacramParticipantHis offensive coaching staff hires haven’t worked out overall. Also his overall offensive player acquisition via both the draft and FA were terrible. He attempted to basically rebuild the OLine through one draft, and although to date that is probably incomplete, so far it doesn’t look good.
December 15, 2016 at 3:24 pm #61139canadaramParticipantI agree with zn’s thoughts about replacing Schottenheimer. There were some draft errors too, but every team has those.

Yep..I’ve already started looking at them…Not sure if I want to part with a high 2nd on him yet or not.
Good news is it looks like we’ll have a lot to talk about between now and draft time.

Build the OLine. Elflien is real good. Plus, he won’t be around past mid 2nd round.
