Rams update: Fisher tweaks his coaching staff
By Jim Thomas
Jeff Fisher has done some tweaking on the defensive side of his Rams coaching staff.
Chuck Cecil, the team’s defensive backs coach the past three seasons under Fisher, has been given broader duties this season with the title senior defensive assistant.
“Chuck has been a huge contributor to this staff, and he’s gonna continue to do so,” Fisher said. “We felt like his value comes from more of a big-picture, intimate-project, I’m gonna say kind of a coordinator perspective.
“But rather than dealing specifically with DBs, we felt like his value was greater on a big picture basis, overseeing everything. So he’ll do a lot of projects for us. I’m really excited about his future with us.”
Brandon Fisher and Dennard Wilson will take over the defensive back coaching duties.
“They’re sharing responsibility in the secondary,” Jeff Fisher said.
Brandon Fisher, the head coach’s son, will spend most of his time with the team’s safeties. Wilson will work mostly with the cornerbacks. Wilson, 33, has spent the past three seasons as a defensive quality control coach with the Rams. From 2008-11 he was a scout with the Chicago Bears.
Brandon Fisher, 28, spent the 2011 season as defensive assistant with the Detroit Lions before joining the Rams in 2012.
While losing offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to the Georgia Bulldogs in the offseason, Jeff Fisher has added four assistants to his staff: quarterbacks coach Chris Weinke, offensive assistants Jeff Garcia and Barrett Trotter, and defensive quality control coach Jeff Imamura.
Trotter, a former Auburn quarterback, joined the Rams in 2013 working in both football operations and scouting.
Counting the head coach, the Rams’ coaching staff now consists of 27 coaches.

of a secondary coach.Maybe they thought Cecil was too ‘big picture’
to make a good DB out of

Yes, but, the previous time, Cecil was the coordinator. Plus he gave an official the finger during a live broadcast. Plus he wasn’t afraid to fire Walton and Blake Wms. in the last coupla years.
From the wiki:
On October 3, 2010, during a game against the Denver Broncos, Cecil gave NFL officials the middle-finger gesture in an attempt to protest a neutral zone infraction call against one of his players. Live close-up video of Cecil was being aired at the time, and the gesture was broadcast without editing.
Is the secondary well coached? Well, there’s McDonald and Gaines. So who knows, so far.
This could be a genuine promotion of some kind, or, maybe Fisher is getting Cecil out of Gregg’s way. Or both.

EARTH CITY, Mo. — After an offseason that saw the first major shift to the coaching staff on the offensive side of the ball with the departure of coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher made a few other alterations to his ever-growing staff as well.
Most notably, Chuck Cecil has moved from secondary coach to senior defensive assistant. Cecil spent the previous three seasons as the team’s secondary coach but will take on a more expansive role with the defense with his new title.
In accordance with that, Dennard Wilson has been promoted from defensive quality control coach to defensive backs. He joins Brandon Fisher in that shared responsibility. In Friday’s first training camp practice, Wilson spent most of the individual drills working with cornerbacks while Fisher tutored the safeties. That’s presumably how the duties will be divided moving forward.
Jeff Imamura was hired earlier as a replacement for Wilson with the title of defensive quality control coach.
Those aren’t the only coaching staff moves the Rams made in the offseason. In replacing Schottenheimer, coach Jeff Fisher promoted Frank Cignetti Jr. from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator with Chris Weinke coming on in Cignetti’s former role. Rob Boras was promoted to assistant head coach/offense and Jeff Garcia joined as an offensive assistant who is working mostly with wide receivers.
But there was also one more move made, as Fisher brought on Barrett Trotter as an offensive assistant. Trotter had spent the past two seasons working in football operations and as a scouting assistant. The former Auburn quarterback will help Weinke with the signal-callers.

Until they fill that supremely important spot I can’t say I see a Superbowl happening anytime soon.

Seattle doesn’t have one of those.
So…I dunno how important it is.

At least not until late january or early february.
The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.
Sprinkles are for winners.
