ParticipantWell so far Goff has not silenced his critics nor has he persuaded many fans hes a bust; most of us still seem to be ‘processing’. Ya know.
He is the best of QBs, he is the worst of QBs.
So now we come to his first road game of the season. What kind of defense does SanFran have?
I dunno about Goff, but i do know i really like McV’s offense. So many open Receivers. Its gonna get fun at some point in the next few years, i think.

ParticipantSF is stupid. No way we lose.
==============
Well if SF is stupid,
what are the Rams?“The Rams were the only team to lose to the 49ers in 2016, as both wins for the 49ers were against the Rams.”

vLast year we were double stupid and triple stupid. The opposite of being double smart and triple smart.

Participanthoyer and that niner passing offense has to be the worst in the league.
in defense of Hoyer, he has completed 62% of his passes against some pretty good defenses (Carolina and Seattle)….. SF is overdue to score some TD’s…
BTW, Thursday night games SUCK…. I typically go every season to watch the RAMS play at 49ers, but that stadium’s location is in one of the most heavily congested traffic areas in the SF Bay Area. Thus, for the 2nd year in a row, I’m going to pass on attending this game……… a traffic nightmare, kick off at 5:30 PM is in the middle of the evening commute hour.

SF so far though it’s only 2 games.
Defense, 10th in yards & 10th in points. 7th against the pass. 24th against the run. 25th in sack percentage.
Offense, 32nd in yards & 31st in points. 31st passing, 16th rushing (and 2nd in YPC with 6.2).
Hoyer, 4.7 per attempt.
SF 24th in offensive sack percentage. Rams 2nd in defensive sack percentage.

ParticipantGoff’s 10th game 3rd in a real offense he’s growing. He’ll do better if the D can get him more plays 49 is going to be tough on anyone.

ParticipantI gotta feeling itz gonna be a Turnover-fest. A blunder-bowl.
It may set back Thursday Night Football at least…..well….wait. No, Thursday Night Football sucks already. I suppose this game will be fine for Thursday Night Football.
Rams 34
49ers 30Wade is a bust. But the 49ers are double-stupid, and the Rams are not Fisher-stupid anymore.

Participantthis game tells me much more about Goff than the first two. The first game had an astericks b/c it was Indy. The second had an astericks b/c it was too incestuous. If Goff performs well, on the road, than I’ll know that we have something. If he doesn’t, than there is still hope, but it’s like shit, here we go again.

i actually wonder if mcvay gives it to gurley and sees if he can carry the offense. the niners defense hasn’t given up many passing yards. opposing offenses have gotten most of their yards off the running game.

vSorry, but, speaking as one self-appointed Let’s Do History Right type to a self-appointed Fisher Hater type…a Fisher/Wms defense would never have been run on that way. In fact even in 2016, when the morale collapsed, they still ended up 16th against the run, and that was low ebb for them.
I could get more into it and ask how McVay would do with a series of #2 caliber qbs but…enough.
So this isn’t a board war. It’s a board skirmish without casualties.

Nah, I saw GW’s defenses gashed plenty of times by running-games. They just weren’t consistent. They’d be great for a couple of games, and then boom, they’d get run-over. I think the 16 ranking is fairly accurate, but that aint a good ranking as far as I’m concerned.
As far as how McV would do with Keenum, etc — I dont think its the right question. Fisher built his team. McV is building his. So far I like the way McV is doing it better.

vBradford was injured twice. His OLs were shredded by injuries. He didn’t build that. My hope is that we don;t see that kind of thing anymore. The results will be the same if we do.

Fisher was also the guy who preferred players like Britt and J.Cook, instead of other options. The WR corps always seemed sub-par to me. It was never good in Five years. It seemed like such a struggle for guys to simply ‘get open’.
McV comes along and it seems like everyone is open all the time.
There were indeed a lot of key injuries Fisher had to deal with. But I still think McV is an upgrade.

McV is pretty clearly an upgrade, which doesn’t mean that anyone would have done much better with the Rams situation from 2012-15.
But I have to stop talking about that topic here before they decide to ban me.
So. Um. Hey how ’bout that Kupp guy. Ample hands, no?

ParticipantThe Panthers and Seahawks both ran the ball over 30 times against the 49ers, so the passing stats were lower than you might expect. I think based on what we have seen so far, this game depends more on Gurley and whatever we might get from the other RBs and not so much on Goff. Newton threw for two and Wilson for one TD, so I kind of expect a modestly successful game from Goff, but looking for a bigger game from Gurley and the RBs.

ParticipantCarlos Hyde is averaging about 7 yards a carry.
He’s a receiving machine out of the backfield.
If they shut him down–they win this game. If they do not–they lose.
Also–one other thing–they can’t make mistakes. Penalties, turnovers, etc. If they shut down Hyde but make those kind of mistakes–they lose.
They can win this game. They should win this game. But this is the NFL.
We’ll see.

Yeah, but even though Hyde’s been great the 9’ers still have’t managed to win a game yet.
I think the Rams have enough to beat them even if he has a good game, as long as they don’t let anyone else go off on them.
September 21, 2017 at 6:24 pm #74668InvaderRam
Moderatorhyde’s good. and despite that, the niners have scored 12 points this season. that’s the total for both games.
it would qualify as two steps back if the rams lose this game.
September 21, 2017 at 7:11 pm #74670InvaderRam
Moderatorroad game against a divisional opponent. goff is still young and inexperienced. i wanna see more than anything else gurley take this game over. i want everyone to forget about carlos hyde because gurley just absolutely dominates the niner defense.
