i wouldn’t be surprised or alarmed if he did.
the oline is going through some change. the chemistry might not exactly be there. and even more important sully is gone. he can’t rely on him anymore, and the onus is now on him to make all the calls. i think he can do it, but it might take some time to feel totally comfortable doing it.
but again. i wouldn’t be too alarmed. qbs typically do go through a stretch where they have a slight regression. this might be the year for goff.

I don’t know but I think he progresses. They are working on him reacting more quickly on progressions post-snap, especially against unfamiliar or unexpected coverages. That means getting the ball out more quickly (among the many things it means) and of course getting the ball out quickly is a response to a new, not fully experienced OL.
If he’s good at that then, I would call it progress.

i think pre-snap is where he struggles. and even post-snap it’ll take awhile. it’s gotta be different with live reps as opposed to practicing it.
but i think he’ll eventually get over that hump. like i said almost every qb goes through something like this it seems like.
i don’t think it’ll be anything permanent.

July 14, 2019 at 8:15 am #102934wvParticipantI dont foresee any regression in his game. I just think losing Saffold, and Sullivan, and relying on the aged Whitworth, combined with an eroding-Gurley, is going to regress the whole offense.
Granted, they get Kupp back, and Noteboom shows promise, and they drafted a RB.
Goff is fine, imho. Good enough to be a top ten QB. Good enuff to win a Ring.
My biggest hope lies in the Defense. Holding the Pats to 13 points and shutting down the Saints in the second half, and dominating the Cowboys — all in playoff games — was impressive. Wade came through.

not a regression in his game but a regression statistically.
but i think it does force him to elevate his game.

I didn’t realize what you meant. Sure, it is possible that JG could take a step or 2 back statistically. But I think it won’t be in INT percentage.
The thing that may balance all that is that the defense is being set up to do far better than it has been doing. That’s even if they don’t develop much of an edge rush. This may be one of the best if not THE best Rams secondaries we’ve seen.
On paper, they ought to be better against the run, against the pass (yards per attempt), and in producing turnovers.
So that ought to give the offense more room to breath.

i think so too.
and if gurley happens to not be at full strength, i think henderson will keep the running game going.
July 14, 2019 at 8:15 pm #102946znModeratorJust posted an article in another thread about things like this. It’s Will the Rams return to the Super Bowl this season? by Vinny Bonsignore and Rich Hammond (here, recent post in the thread: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/football-gameplans-2019-nfl-team-preview-los-angeles-rams/#post-102945 ).
VB and RH divide the question so one has to answer yes and one no. VB gets the “no” side, and his argument against is twofold: (1) the schedule (which is in spite of first appearances is quite brutal), and (2) the uncertainties on the OL.

i think they’ll figure it out, but it’s very much a concern of mine. i still think overall the defense improves.

I’m reasonably optimistic about the defense though I don’t expect much in terms of an outside rush. The thing about the youngest players they’re promoting is that they are really 2-down types. That’s Kiser and then Joseph-Day and/or Gaines. The big emphasis this year seems to be taking advantage of the depth and variety in the secondary to field all sorts of sub-packages (Matthews fits that too in a different way), while the MIKE LB and NT are 2 down spots. So the newly promoted youngsters are really role players with less on their shoulders.
