Rams: The Rams stand seventh in the NFC playoff order after taking down Seattle 28-12 in the Sunday night game. They are 5-2 since acquiring Jalen Ramsey from Jacksonville and could make a case that the cornerback has provided some of the difference.
Six of the Rams’ past seven opponents scored between 6-10 points on offense, sandwiched around a brutal 45-6 defeat to Baltimore in Week 11. Most of those Rams opponents were weak offensively, but Seattle was not. The Seahawks scored six points on offense against the Rams, the first time Seattle scored fewer than 14 on offense in 30 total games under offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
The Rams’ sack rate has nearly doubled since Ramsey’s arrival, ranking fourth over that span. That could be coincidental, or Ramsey could be empowering defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
Whatever the case, the Rams are back in the playoff hunt. They’d be tied with Seattle at 9-4 if they could retroactively send Greg Zuerlein’s late field-goal try through the uprights at CenturyLink Field back in Week 5.
To reach the playoffs, the Rams might need to prove they can score against better defenses, specifically San Francisco’s in Week 16. The Rams haven’t scored much against the most talented defenses they’ve faced. They had seven points against San Francisco, 12 against Pittsburgh, 17 against Chicago and six against Baltimore. They’ve put together consecutive impressive performances on offense against Arizona (34 points) and Seattle (28 points), and should have opportunities at Dallas next week.
