I don’t believe a RB can be the focus of your team. 16 games is too much punishment for a RB to sustain. imo
    .
I believe in Mannion, but Goff is the QB until he gets hurt. Go ahead and let Goff take the bumps and bruises while McVay gets his offense going. 😉

I am not a fan of Dickerson, the sports personality.

I do agree that they should have given Mannion a chance. In fact–I would have kept Keenan and Mannion and NOT drafted Goff at all. And if Mannion was a bust I would have gotten the QB at that point. I just don’t think he has ever really gotten the chance. I wonder if Goff struggles–how quick Mcvey will be to throw in Mannion. That will be an interesting question this year. Goff isn’t his guy particularly. But he is more or less stuck with the investment the team made in him. And in fact–part of his hire was to make sure Goff does work out. So he may be in a difficult situation IF Goff fails.

I hope Goff is lights out, obviously.

But I still wish they hadn’t given up the picks they did BEFORE giving Mannion that chance.

I was hoping they would give Mannion the opportunity as well. And draft a QB. Just not trade up to do so. Just draft a QB somewhere, and another one this year, and another next year. But I would have gone with grooming Mannion for a couple of seasons to see, all while developing other guys.

    I hope I’m wrong, obviously.

I am not impressed by Allbright, but we will find out soon enough what the deal is.

I don;t know anything about him. But he got this issue started (Orlovsky as a Mannion replacement) so he’s news right now.

NFL Minimum Salaries for 2015 and the Veteran Cap Benefit Rule

    Quarterbacks (2)

The hot trend the past couple of years in the NFL is to only dress two quarterbacks on game day. With most teams employing a wide receiver or running back to serve as the emergency third quarterback, there is no reason to dress more than two quarterbacks.

Now this number could jump to three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster if the third quarterback is a young talent the team is trying to hide from other teams or develop.

Teams may also keep three quarterbacks on the roster if the first two quarterbacks are injured or injury-prone.

With all due respect to Jay, his answer is incomplete.

The number will change week-to-week, but the majority of teams carry three QBs on their roster, though only two will be active on game day.

Take Week 15 of 2015 as an example. Eleven teams had two QBs on their 53 man roster. Most if not all had a third on their practise squad or reserve roster.

Of the 21 who had three, only Carolina had all three active, which is because Joe Webb, listed as a QB, is one of their kick returners.

I think Orlovsky is strictly insurance in case Goff or Mannion get hurt. He is cheap. Last year he got the vet minimum. It goes up $15,000 Ito $1,000,000 this year. They can guarantee him some money like the Lions did last year. I think about half the teams go into the season with 2 QBs.
    .
They give him some money to come to training camp and then cut him and tell him to hang around the phone. 😉

    Pfft.

That was all a bunch of cherry-picking from a tree with precious little fruit on it.

I think we can agree that ESPN doesn’t know shit about it. They weren’t in Thousand Oaks or Irvine. Seriously, Dickerson is in the best situation to offer an opinion. He was actually around the team. And Mannion, iirc, looked better than Goff during the preseason last year. Goff may be more talented, but he spent last year learning how to QB from under center.

I think both Goff and Mannion are NFL worthy, and possibly more than that, but nobody really knows yet, including the Rams. Orlovsky is a camp arm, and emergency backup.

Yeah–that rating means nothing to me.

Mannion has not had a real chance–plain and simple. I don’t think we can know anything until we see that happen. And it may never happen because of the circumstances. But to say he’s the 31st back-up? I won’t bet the bank on that just yet.

In any case this team is stuck with Goff right now and this season is certainly about trying to get him going. If it’s about anything it’s about that. If that doesn’t work then next year could be very interesting. Do they go after a Cousins? Do they just keep on the Goff train? This is a big year for the team and Goff. He doesn’t have to take them to the playoffs. He just has to look like a quality NFL quarterback. That’s his bar.

i suspect mannion is not as good as goff.

that’s just my opinion. and dickerson certainly is around the team more than i am.

i also don’t think for a second mcvay keeps mannion on the bench if he thinks he’s the better play.

was he not around when griffin got replaced by cousins?

he wasn’t the offensive coordinator the whole time, but his first year as offensive coordinator was when cousins took the job from griffin iii for good. maybe he didn’t make the final decision. it was probably gruden, but still. mcvay probably learned from that experience. play your best damn players.

goff being a number one pick isn’t gonna change that. he’ll get first dibs, but if mannion is better, he’ll play.

although yes. i was against the trade up.
