hey, everyone.
hope everyone out there is healthy and safe. i hope your family is safe.
i said at the beginning of the year that i thought this year was going to suck. boy did i underestimate exactly how much this year was actually going to suck. maybe the craziest year i’ve ever experienced. i don’t know about all of you.
but take care and hopefully happier days are ahead.

we’re doing good. wife and the dog are good. thanks for asking.
luckily california hasn’t been hit hard compared to other places. just trying to stay isolated as much as possible. really. we should be ok. i’m not too worried. but beyond just the virus itself, it’s knowing that there will be millions around the world who will suffer. for awhile. physically. but also economically. even mentally.
pain and suffering has existed long before this virus. and it will go on long after this virus… still. it’s heartbreaking.
May 17, 2020 at 2:49 pm #115027nittany ramModeratorA good friend of our family recently died of COVID-19 in a nursing home in Philadelphia. He and his wife had been my parent’s best friends since I was in my teens. Our families vacationed together in the Outer Banks every summer. He was a kind and fun-loving man. He was suffering from Alzheimer’s and had been living with his son’s family, but he started experiencing “Korean War” flashbacks accompanied by a lot of screaming. He was frightening his son’s small children, and not knowing what else to do, they put him in a nursing home. I had not seen him in years, but from what I have heard, Alzheimer’s had taken the man I used to know. He no longer existed. What was left was a frightened, tormented, shell of his former self who didn’t know where he was and didn’t recognize anyone around him. Perhaps this is one case where COVID-19 was a blessing.

I;m sorry to hear all that N. My condolences. It’s a tough time.

Oof. Alzheimer’s is the worst, I think. What meaning does life have if memory is destroyed, and the personality becomes tempest-tossed? That’s tough.

June 16, 2020 at 12:40 am #116603znModeratorMy youngest daughter’s fiance was recently tested after having some symptoms, and fortunately it turned out negative.
They were going to hunker down and just wait it out because they did not believe they could get tested. I made a couple of calls and found a place testing anyone who walks in and asks. I gave them that number and said “no just go get tested, there’s no issue with it.” Here, the state covers it (which does not matter in our case because mon spouse and I would have covered it anyway.)
Small and I’m sure common story.

June 19, 2020 at 11:11 am #116775ZooeyModeratorMy wife has been running a fever for a day, and had body aches for several days. Going to get tested this morning. There aren’t many cases in our county, and we’ve been really careful, so it seems pretty unlikely…and yet…she got something, somewhere.

Good to hear.
Don’t move to Florida. Or, Texas.

Finally got the results: positive.
The cough has lessened but the body aches and headaches can’t be contained with any painkiller. The cloudy vision comes and goes. Waking up is the worst as its challenging to see for the first 15-30 minutes. The water retention and need to itch my calves, ankles, feet is incessant. I’m wearing socks and pants even though its hot outside. Not smelling and tasting almost nothing is concerning.
Not looking for sympathy. Only offering this up as an FYI of what you or a relative might face.
And my kids are back to 100%
Finally, my temp has remained below 100. So it makes me question the whole temperature scan theater act.
