Former LSU standout offensive tackle La’el Collins has reportedly signed as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys, according to a report Thursday from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Collins was slated to be a first-round draft pick in last week’s NFL Draft when issues arose regarding his potential connection to the murder of a former female associate who was pregnant when she died. The LSU star spoke with police and discovered the deceased child was not his and that he was not considered a suspect in the case.
The Cowboys hosted Collins on Wednesday, with quarterback Tony Romo joining a contingent that included Dallas owner Jerry Jones in the hopes of wooing Collins to the team.
Dallas already has one of the league’s stronger lines, and according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora, Collins could slot in at tackle or guard.
