Clowney has not had a good year.

Snisher dodged a bullet with Blackmon
    and probably Clowney.

    Clowney to See Dr Andrews
    by Tania Gangull

HOUSTON — Texans outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney will meet with Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his surgically repaired right knee, sources confirmed.

The trip to Alabama will take a day unless a second surgery is deemed necessary. Clowney experienced a setback with the knee recently and missed the Texans’ win Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

Kirby Lee/USA TODAY SportsJadeveon Clowney will see Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion on his surgically repaired right knee.

Clowney initially suffered a torn meniscus in the Texans’ season opener Sept. 7 and had arthroscopic knee surgery the next day. He missed the next six games, returned for one game, missed the next game, and then played in the Texans’ Week 11 and 12 contests against the Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals.

In the week leading up to the Bengals game, Clowney said his knee wasn’t feeling right. He played anyway, garnering a season-high 49 snapson defense. Afterward, he experienced more pain and swelling in his knee, especially when he planted his leg to change direction.

“I’m kind of surprised; I thought it would have been over,” Clowney said on Thanksgiving. “I thought it’d be back to where it was by now. Some people react differently to injuries.”

At the time, Clowney said he was not expecting to need another surgery, but that now could change.

“This guy has worked extremely hard to recover from injuries,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said Monday. “And I want to be real clear about this with him, as it relates to us here to the Houston Texans. We think very highly of him. We know he’s going to be a really good player. He’s been unlucky.”

Clowney had groin surgery in June, shortly after signing his rookie contract. He suffered a concussion in August during a joint practice against the Denver Broncos.

On Friday, O’Brien said the team was not considering shutting Clowney down for the season to focus on next season. With four games remaining this season, a second surgery likely would end his season.

Houston announced yesterday that Clowney’s season is over. He’ll undergo knee surgery. He played like 3 games and had about 7 tackles, I believe.

Hmm. I do hope we get to see what this guy can do when he’s healthy, but you have to wonder if he’s going to be injury prone his entire career. I’d say the Rams were likely pretty lucky they didn’t have to even choose whether to take Clowney.
