It was Mr. Hyde’s week. The whole season has been this way.

Super bowl team one week, not even a playoff team the next week.

Some games something is off with the offense and there is more than one cause. I’m not smart enough to figure out what it is and how to fix it.

Strangely I gave up being unhappy about it around week 8.

We still control our own destiny.

I thought this was a possible trap game this week. Our guys may take this Jets team too lightly, and have their minds on Seattle next week.

It was Mr. Hyde’s week. The whole season has been this way.

Super bowl team one week, not even a playoff team the next week.

Except it’s not that way. It’s not 1 week this, another week that. I don’t count them as playing badly in the Bills game. So that’s 4 bad games of 14. That’s not 50/40, it’s 29/71.

So the one week one thing another week another thing idea doesn’t hold up. It’s something else.

I would say there are 3 games where the Rams as a team did not show up to play. 1st SF, Miami, Jets. In fact this game the announcers kept pointing out the Rams deficient energy level (which the offense fixed in the 2nd half).

So what it looks like to me–ie. my theory–is that at times the Rams don’t get up for what they perceive to be a weak opponent.

The week before the 1st SF game, SF lost to Miami 47-17. At that time Miami was considered a weak team.

The week before this game, the Jets–on top of going 0-13–lost to Seattle 40-3.

Now I wish I knew what causes them to come into games like this unprepared for an opponent who is up to play them. But I think that is something McVay has to fix, probably in himself first.

    Yes, there’s something to that.

The only way to make up for this travesty-of-justice,
    is win out,
    win every playoff game,
    win the Super Bowl,
and go on to form a dynasty.

That is the only way this ugly green stain
    can ever be purified.

I didn’t mean is was 50-50 mr. over analyzer. 🙂

But, there have been too many Mr Hyde weeks this year and it’s strange.

I think you are right and it starts with something McVay first. He has to fix with what he is doing and how he is preparing the game plan and the team.

This is what the Rams can accomplish with 10 days to prepare against the league’s worst team.

The don’t feel like competing Rams show up when they’re heavily favored. I can’t remember this happening with another team.

This is one of the ALLTIME regular-season
    embarrassments in Ram History.

I cant recall anything similar in ram history.
    A nine-win team vs a winless team.

I’m not even watching the hi-lites.

Nothing expresses what it’s like to have been a Rams fan for 50 years as succinctly and elegantly as “Jets 23, Rams 20”.

Maybe they should never wear that color combo ever again.

    This.

And I wondered, as I watched this impossibility unfold before me, how I could be so certain that Rams were going to lose to the Jets AND… realize at the same time that this guarantees a victory over Seattle. I have to tellya, I lost all doubt about the game against Seattle as I watched this loss roll inevitably over me. I am sure most of the Experts will be picking Seattle next week, due to “Last Game Syndrome,” and they’re all going to be wrong.

And that led me to what Nittany said…This summarizes 50 years of Rams fan experiences, and now I wonder, “Do other teams have this same experience, or is it unique to the Rams?” Is it more common to Rams fans? This…playing to the level of the competition thing? Because you would just think that an experience like this, across fifty years, with thousands of players coming and going, and coaches and front offices, and even cities and stadiums, that this has to be more common than we think, and we are just being parochial about it.

But I sure as hell cannot remember the Pats or 9ers pulling up like this. OTOH, the Steelers, after winning their first 11 in a row, or whatever, just lost to the Bengals. I don’t know what it means.

I think it may suggest that Loki is the one true god. And he has it in for Heimdall, who is associated with Rams, and…this would take a lot of explaining about Norse mythology, so I will stop here, but I seriously think I’m onto something.

I think I already said this? Not sure. BUT. Even if I am repeating here–this is the league’s youngest team.

Having a bad experience like this could turn out to be a good, hard lesson for a young team.

They came out flat against what they took to be an inferior opponent and it bit em in the ass. Took a chunk out in fact. Every time they sit down now, they will be reminded.

Maybe the Jets are really a playoff-caliber team
    with a little bad luck.

You people ever think of ‘that’ ?

    game 14 analysis … Jets

This one is pretty painful… I’m generally really supportive of Jared and McVay … but there is an aspect to “downs” that is not working.

Annnd as a result of their performances (and Tyreek Hill’s) I lost my semi finals in two fantasy leagues (I have Mike Thomas in both leagues too, who just went on IR). So I’m not super anxious to be forgiving this year.

    The Good

    1) I liked the uniform.

    2) Morgan Fox with 5 sacks? Nice bro!

    3) Both TD passes.

    4) Troy Reeder pass defense …

    5) Woods being $ as always.

    6) Being in it at the end was kinda cool, but not like .. that cool.

    7) HIgbee had himself a decent day.

    The Bad

    8) Kick the FG. I don’t care if he misses. Or? Have a couple 4 yard routes.

    9) Can’t stop Frank Gore in 4 minute offense? I know it’s not been a long time that you’ve been coach, but as a fan I’ve been watching Frank Gore finish games against us since I was single …

    10) How many holding calls?

    11) Our DBs looked like they were sleeping.

    12) Akers was dinged … and the others couldn’t make it work enough to take the carries.

    13) No outside pass rush.

    14) Also painfully obvious now we need a deep threat.

    The Ugly

    15) Goff’s lows. This is an issue. This is psychological. Goff has bad days and there’s no way to give Woods a chance to rile them up if he can’t get the ball. We can’t be flat for a whole half. The issue is that his lows are not a floor we can be comfortable with. The INT he threw was … incompetence. Behind the receiver and low and into a defender.

    16) Mcvay seems to not be able to realize and adjust to this. That’s not okay. The plan needs to be in place every week in case he shows up flat. “What do we do if Jared shows up flat” needs to have an answer in the game plan every week. This can’t be a surprise. IN two 3 and outs Sun Tzu and I were like “Jared is flat, what can we do?” … we’re fans. There needs to be an answer. Or a Super bowl is not in our cards.

    Leaving it there.

I took the Jets game as a true team loss in every sense of the word.

They (all) came out flat. The defense had multiple miscommunications (primarily on misdirections- Jourdan R. detailed on the 11 Personnel podcast).

The OL played poorly. Multiple holding penalties. Special teams errors (my first “uh oh” about this game was the blocked punt…). Goff didn’t play well. Several drops. Questionable coaching. Just a true, all-around bad game….

And when you’re at home, coming off 10 days off, vs. the worst team in the league, AND a clinched playoff berth on the line…. Just…..inexcusable.
