Alpena putting brakcet challenge out there, Doug bets him $20 that Kentucky will not lose, picking out teams like Belmont that we like, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch joins the show, very questionable logic from the Rams (at least their explanation) in trading Sam Bradford, do not insult our intellgence, management not just talking to the media when behind the mic, some players upset about the manner with which the trade was all handled, one of the more strange press conferences last Friday…, Rams and Bradford could not come to terms on pay cut, talking to agent Tom Condon at the combine when trade rumors first began, odd intro for Foles, gamesmanship is one thing…, not sure why there is so much deception, did not appear to be tremendous push from other teams to acquire Foles, not sure why Fisher kept on saying on and off the mic that they wanted to re-do deal with Bradford, still hearing reports that Eagles will ship Bradford to acquire Marcus Mariota in the draft, wondering how Bradford could fit into the spread system, that time Fisher dismissed the spread (hurry up) when Bradford seem to like it…, Rams still have work to be done putting together offensive line, about $11M in cap room left, have to do something with free agency for offensive line, acquiring Nick Fairley, highly touted out of college has struggled to make things at the pro level, odd to see applause for players (Fairley and Foles) at press conference
Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch discussed the offensive line void on The Wendy’s Big Show Monday. Here’s what he had to say about potential signings:
“They’re still looking for three starters. They need a starting center, a starting right guard and a starting right tackle. All the guys the Rams would like to have on the offensive line are still in play.”
– On right tackle Joe Barksdale: “The market has still not developed. I think the Rams have a decent chance to get him back on the rebound.”
– On free agent center Stefen Wiesniewski: “From the Oakland Raiders, he made a few trips last week, Tampa Bay and Seattle. But he left there without a contract. He’s still in play.
– On free agent right guard Justin Blalock: “He was released by Atlanta last week. Visited Detroit and I think there’s still a chance he’ll visit St. Louis some time this week.”
Thomas discussed how the Rams’ approach to the draft will change depending on what, if any, offensive linement they sign.
“Let’s just say they get two of these three. Let’s say they resign Barksdale and they get Blalock. Well then you still need a center. Now there’s no center worth taking 10 overall, but you may still want to get a tackle. It’s not just the starters we’re talking about. The Rams have only seven offensive linemen under contract. And really three of those seven are guys you probably don’t want on the roster. Most teams take nine into the regular season so you need to find some guys that can play.”
