And yes, Rams QB coach Frank Cignetti has interviewed for OC job in Cleveland.

Rams also denied permission by Indianapolis to interview special assistant to head coach Rob Chudzinski for OC job.

That’s cold. Could the Rams offer a job to a person they were denied to speak too? Or is that part of what they aren’t allowed to do.

Well what’s the rule on that? I think it has something
to do with “lateral” moves, yes?

Rams Denied Permission to Interview Two Offensive Coordinator Candidates
    by Patrick Karraker

    http://archauthority.com/2015/01/20/st-louis-rams-denied-permission-interview-two-offensive-coordinator-candidates/

The St. Louis Rams’ search for an offensive coordinator to replace Brian Schottenheimer took another unfortunate turn on Tuesday, as the team was denied permission to interview two of their prospective candidates, Indianapolis Colts special assistant and former Cleveland Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski and Green Bay Packers quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt, as first reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Jim Thomas:

The Rams have struggled to find candidates in the aftermath of Schottenheimer’s departure to the University of Georgia. Three coaches who they have secured interviews with–Marc Trestman, Greg Roman, and Kyle Shanahan–have been hired by other teams.

They reportedly have interest in outgoing Denver Broncos coordinator Adam Gase, though he’ll almost certainly be more drawn to one of the other current openings, which include an opportunity for a quick reunion with John Fox in Chicago, as well as the San Francisco and Cleveland jobs.

Unless head coach Jeff Fisher is going to go completely off the grid for the hire, the remaining candidates are probably guys who have a history working with him. Tight ends coach Rob Boras and quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti (who recently interviewed for the Cleveland coordinator job) are seen as internal candidates, and Fisher’s former quarterbacks coach with the Tennessee Titans, Dowell Loggains, is still without a job after being fired by the Browns.

Perhaps the greatest lesson for Rams fans is to be careful what they wish for; a large chunk of the fan base was outwardly overjoyed on social media when Schottenheimer decided to leave for Georgia. But for whatever reason now, whether it be the team’s potential relocation to Los Angeles, the lack of an established quarterback, or Fisher’s vulnerability following three straight losing seasons, it seems like it’s going to be very difficult for the Rams to upgrade over Schottenheimer this offseason.

Rams denied permission to interview two OC candidates

MOBILE, ALA. _ The Rams’ ongoing offensive coordinator search hit a couple of roadblocks Tuesday with both the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts denying them permission to interview potential candidates.

The Colts blocked the Rams from interviewing Rob Chudzinski, the former Cleveland Browns head coach who has the title of special assistant to the head coach in Indy. Green Bay denied permission for the Rams to interview quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

The Rams still would like to speak to former Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase, but he is interviewing in Chicago today. Another potential candidate, Greg Olson, looks to be in line to take the Jacksonville OC job.

Under NFL rules, the only instance where a team cannot deny permission is for a head-coaching job.

The Packers have had a history of blocking coaching interviews according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. In a 2013 story, the newspaper said at least six Packers assistants had been denied permission to interview in recent years, according to sources.

Also on Tuesday, Rams quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti interviewed for the offensive coordinator’s job in Cleveland. Earlier, the Browns interviewed former Rams head coach Mike Martz for the same job.

Btw, I dont think i want an outsider-OC.
I dont care if they have a big Rep.
I’d just as soon go with Boras. He
knows the players and could hit the ground
    running.

Have the Rams actually interviewed ANYONE yet?

Hey–it’s not a great situation. It’s a coach who may be on shaky ground if things don’t improve in a hurry. The QB situation is far from settled. The team is probably moving but–who knows for certain. The offensive line needs work. There is no superstar offensive weapon on the team. What’s not to like?

My guess is it is just a promotion from within and go from there. At least the scheme won’t change much.

Unless there is a stealth candidate–someone like a Mike Shanahan who joins his pal Fisher for some laughs.

Rams were lucky last time to get an experienced coordinator.

There just aren’t that many in the market at any given time, cause, they aren’t there unless they get fired.

But then, experienced coordinators once weren’t. Once, they were position coaches that got promoted into new jobs.

    This is relatively new.

Teams didn’t used to deny coaches a chance to improve their position. That was the unwritten rule. So much so that many folks think that it’s actually a rule when a guy is under contract.

Well, it’s not. If a guy is under contract, they don’t HAVE to give permission… and these days, if they find success with a staff, they are tending NOT to give permission in some circles.

I think coaches are going to have to identify which teams don’t allow promotion outside as part of their consideration process.

Chud and Van Pelt are losing LOTS of money by not being able to pursue their free market opportunities.

Yeah, yeah, I know about contracts. That said, if they stunk, the coach couldn’t insist on staying because of that same contract.

Sports is the crucible of human virtue. The distillate remains are human vice.
