Yep. So, Besides that Mrs. Lincoln how was the show?
Im fine with Hill as QB. He will give our receivers a chance to make plays.
The Good.
1) Quick was running routes like it was business, getting open, and exuding confidence.
2) Shotty’s playbook seems to have more downfield passing than I can remember seeing. The big guys are running deep, and the fast guys or guys with mismatches are running crossing routes. That’s smart.
3) Our D line is fierce. Donald is going to make 4 splash plays a game. Quinn’s sack, Schwartz didn’t even get a hand on him. I can;t believe his quickness and agility. Carrington showed up for me for the first time, guess his reps in a 4-3 are starting to kick in.
4) Interior O line blocking. Wells loks healthy, and strong. Saffold looks brutal. I would not be surprised if Saffold was pro bowl bound . . ya know, if he can play 16 games.
5) Trey Watts can play, and we’ll likely not even have to keep him on the 53.
6) Hill makes good decisions, and the pre-snap read on Cunningham’s run was really telling that he’s ready. he has been taking mental reps for years, and that shows.
7) Stacy has amazing vision, no one is taking carries from him unless he’s hurt.
8) Bates at MLB was quite a show. He was playing fast. He’s not who you want there, of course, but its nice to have a flier like him on the bench.
9) McLeod will work just fine at safety.
10) B Washington looked pretty good, bet he’s fighting Bond for that last spot.
11) Tree playing fast. Beautiful thing to see.
The Bad
12) Mason played a bit slow, and Cunningham missed a cutback that would have scored him.
13) Quick has to make that end zone catch.
14) Givens missed a hot read and didn’t come back for a ball. My issue with him has always been “mental awareness and aggression when the ball was in the air”. The missed hot read was mental awareness, not coming back to break up a possible interception is the lack of aggression. He has not gotten better there. I’d rather not waste a roster spot. Just me of course, but that’s my preference. I’d still cut him. I’m not interested in his future.
15) Justice Cunningham cannot catch.
16) Bayer missed a block (I’m putting him here, because that was his only mistake, I believe he makes the team).
17) Greg Robinson looks like his head is swimming. He cannot be lunging like he does when he gets flustered. I hope they let him settle somewhere and stop moving him around.
The Ugly.
18) Seriously? Sam and 2 defensive tackles go down in one game?
For this season Ill be doing an addendum to my weekly reports, with “Which College QB looked good this weekend” as a new section.
Truth is though, Im happy it happened this early in the season, I was saying to myself, “If he’s going to get hurt, let it be now”. Hill is a vet that needs reps, and the WRs are getting some swagger. Im not scared of the season. I honestly think our record is not going to be affected. We can run, and the WRs can make some plays. What we won’t do is seriously contend. But we can still make the playoffs.

rams will be fine with Hill…not sure Rams are comfortable with Austin as a #2….vanilla D’s allowed him to survive in preseason. Very weak arm. There was a reason he worked with 3′s all camp
best qb cut today has been Bryn Renner..never got on the field in a preseason game at Denver…Mayock called him best senior qb at last years Manning camp..smart with strong arm…Rams might look to pick up /trade for guys like Ponder, Brady Quinn, Mallett, Tyler Wilson, Tyler Bray or Chase Daniels if they really dislike Austin..all could be solid #2′s behind Hill. Also our qb of the future might already be on the roster…Gilbert
Hull was cut today…be a nice pickup to backup Laurenaitis

Guard
Just a few takeaways from watching the game online. It’s pretty grainy, so you don’t get the full effect.
Injuries – oh man, from that standpoint, that was a very tough game to watch. Obviously, Sam B. going down was the most devastating and probably has the most impact and long term effect on this team for some time to come. Still concerned about some of the other injuries to key players. Hopefully, they will turn out ok.
Penalties – still seeing a lot of penalties for this team…. 12 for 83 yds overall. The Fish’s emphasis on this area has shown little effect.
Kick coverage was horrendous. Wow, what happened to this part of the game? 6 kick returns for over 200 yards. The Browns had more KR yds then they did in total offense. 200 vs. 178.
Browns Announcers were hilarious. You would have thought by listening to them, that the Browns were killing us. When in fact, we smacked them around pretty good with the 1′s, 2′s, and 3′s. But I suppose you still have to sell the product, even if it’s not very good. Browns have some really good D-Linemen, and their secondary, though they didn’t show it, has a lot of talent back there.
3rd down efficiency was excellent! Aren’t you glad that on 3rd and longs to see the Rams actually attack down field and try to convert instead of seeing another draw, or screen pass? And they executed! Will they continue to have that kind of success in the reg. season? Don’t know, but glad to see them open it up and make the attempt.
Down field, vertical passing was fun to watch. This goes hand in hand with the 3rd down efficiency. I loved seeing the big 3 (Cook, Quick, and Britt) all together on the field early in the game and making plays. That leaves me so frustrated with Bradford going down… because you could see it. You could see the passing game starting to gel, and look like it would be a force. Maybe Hill can make it happen.
Givens demise greatly exaggerated. The guy can get behind defenders and stretch the field, and has great speed. He will not see as many targets as he did as a rook or last year, but he is still a dangerous weapon.
TE’s are going to make hay in this offense I think. Also, Bayer has it over Cunningham. Cunningham just is not a fluid body and his hands… well, he may be better suited for volleyball.
Austin Davis is streaky, hot and cold. Bad decision on the interception to throw into a blanketed receiver. But, he does have something…. raw, and unsettled… but something.
Donald is really disruptive, but Rams LB’s will need to learn to fill behind him, because he does create penetration, holes and havoc. Westbooks also is a penetrator. He didn’t show in the stat line, but he did on the field. Sam had a couple of sacks, one where he just beat his guy soundly, and another when the pocket collapsed.
We’re going to have to cut one or two pretty good DB’s. Hope some will make it to the PS. We are really young at DB, but you can see some of the talent show through. I thought Reid, Roberson, and Woodard all showed a little.
O-Line has not coalesced yet, and we are so very thin at backup. We could be in for another worrisome season with this unit.
Not expecting to see a lot of Tre Mason this year. I know he was running behind the 2′s & 3′s on the O-Line, but he just has a lot of his game he needs to work on… pass pro, receiving, and spacing. I think it’s going to be Stacy and Cunningham. Still don’t understand the cutting of D. Richardson, keeping Pead, and drafting Mason. I think we took a step backwards with all of that… but it is still very early.
Anyway, looked like our hitting and tackling picked up. I like how they swarm to the ball on D. Otherwise, for a butt whoopin’ we put on them…. what a heart sickening game to watch.

I’m buying the hype on Quick and Britt. I know these were the Browns backup CBs so not too much emphasis should be placed on it but there’s just a different feeling with Quick. You can tell that he feel confident and sure about what he’s doing. So it wasn’t about the CBs as much as it was about the WRs. Quick and Britt were making contested catches on well thrown balls. Quick was getting open and fighting for yardage. And Britt seemed fiery. He made some tough catches for us tonight in traffic.
The most important thing I saw tonight, and I’ll reiterate, they caught the ball well in traffic.
Bradford seems to trust both. I’m not predicting 1000+ yards and 10+ TDs for both guys but I think they can give us two solid options on the outside. And Quick might just have himself a nice year as he seems to be emerging as a bit of a go to guy for Bradford (although Sam has always preferred to spread the ball).

Rampage2K-
so after getting hosed by NFL Net twice in 12 hrs…I decide to open my PreseasonLive app from last year on my ipad
anyways, as to what I saw in the opening drive…..Bradford is tearing it up!!!! passing up wide open check downs and threading needles down the field!!! The refs keep trying to stop us, but he keeps firing…I had to hit pause and post this after the 3rd and 25 laser strike that Britt went up and snagged with two DB’s on his back…..We all need to burn some sage right now and pray Bradford can get back soon, I’ve never seen him throw like this….Unreal.
August 25, 2014 at 11:34 pm #5166InvaderRamModeratorbradford’s injury can be overcome. like many have said here over and over again you just feel worse for bradford than the rams. that should always be true. but it’s especially true in this case. hill will be fine in this offense. oline has to get it together. i’m not as impressed with the running offense as most were. i think there’s a lot of work to do there still. and the wide receivers are the best they’ve had in some time. at least better than any in the last three years. so they should help out the qb too.
i’m also expecting big things out of the defense even though the secondary is looking kind of shaky right now.

I thought Brandon Washington actually looked very natural and played pretty well at LT the other night…He played the entire game after Long left. I would like to hear what others thought of him…I was a bit surprised by how good he played at LT…I watched him closely for awhile and plan to do so again tonight.
He played inside at G last year.
Just basing what I saw from him he is capable of playing that spot, way more so then anyone else I have seen as a back up. I will be shocked if he doesnt make the team.
He looked agile, big and strong…pretty good feet and a great punch..Nobody got past him that I can remember.
