    They needed to sign someone that has the ability to throw a 40 yard pass…

    are you folks surprised that it took McVay and the coaching staff this long to realize that Wolford can’t throw a deep pass ?

    the Rams had a very decent game plan vs Seattle last week, their QB just couldn’t execute and missed some wide open throws…

    He represents an upgrade at the back up position. I wonder if he’s reached a point in his career where he’s willing to be a the number 2 guy on a roster?

    The Rams might be good place for him to stick around for a couple of years. who knows how much longer Stafford keeps playing? Plus, even though Stafford has been durable throughout his career, backing up an older QB might represent a greater probability of seeing playing time for Mayfield.

    Some of why the Rams claimed Baker Mayfield: They believe in his talent. They need a QB with Matthew Stafford sidelined for the season and John Wolford dealing with a neck injury. And if Mayfield signs elsewhere this off-season, the Rams could get back a compensatory draft pick.

    The Rams claimed QB Baker Mayfield off waivers, for final four or five games. Don’t sense they’ve put consideration into longer-term plan yet, outside of potential he nets a comp pick. He’d be the 4th QB to play for them this year; dropped into offense w/o Kupp, Robinson.

    To me, move signals Rams will seek longer-term changes at backup (Mayfield or not), by doing this so late in a season like this. For Mayfield, who will try for a contract this spring, situation is adverse. For team playing hard w/ crazy circumstances, yet another “sudden change”

    is also adverse. Not sure on timeline to play yet, but if it’s minus TNF, about four games to see how it goes on the field and internally, and will take on the remaining $1.3M salary for that span.

    From my living room vantage point, this looks like a cheap way to kick the tires on a guy who might compete for the #2 QB slot next season.

    He’s not the answer to anything this season. It’s low risk, anyhow. He has a chance to regroup in the next month, or he’s on the street again, having gone 0-3 in the NFL.

    McVay indicates Baker Mayfield will probably be active tomorrow but whether or not he actually plays may be more situational. Got to facilities about 14 hours ago.

    Why on earth would they play Mayfield tonight unless Perkins gets injured? That would be absurd. And insulting to Perkins. And for what? He’s had no reps.
