i just wonder what it is about the tight end position
I know what you mean, why (as Rodrigue says) are lower round TEs more likely to succeed than other positions picked low?
Here’s another thing. Earlier I said, what does Harris playing with the 1s at this stage say about Hopkins? But then Rodrigue kind of answers that. She says: Where young players often seem to develop in increments almost too minimal for the untrained eye to track, Harris has seemed to chew off large chunks of the learning curve. In fact, it seems Harris has become a special project player for both tight ends coach Wes Phillips — with whom Harris is constantly in orbit receiving instruction — and head coach Sean McVay, who has taken extra time with the rookie during drills on more than one occasion.
That doesn’t tell us about Hopkins, but maybe they see enough in Harris that they are trying to build in some “role player” special package stuff for him as a rookie.
One more thing to remember about Harris. Snead said he was their highest rated special teams coverage guy in this draft.Rodrigue has written about this: “they especially hammered in on special teams coverage guys in tight end/receiver Jacob Harris (perhaps the top-rated special teams player in the draft), running back Jake Funk and receiver Ben Skowronek.”
I will seize the obvious and say–intriguing pick.
