Davante Adams has noticed the difference between playing for the Los Angeles Rams and his other recent teams.

The veteran receiver told reporters on Tuesday at Rams’ camp that he feels “rejuvenated” because there isn’t “a dark cloud over the building.”

“Everybody’s in a good mood,” he said, per ESPN’s Sarah Barshop. “It’s not like a dark cloud over the building. And I’ve experienced that quite a bit over the last few years. So, it’s a glaring difference when you come into a building like this.”

    More of the same.

New Los Angeles Rams receiver Davante Adams is basking in the Southern California sunshine.

Joining Sean McVay’s squad after spending two-plus years in Las Vegas and the bulk of 2024 in New York, Adams feels refreshed.

“It’s been exactly what I needed, feeling rejuvenated and really, really enjoying the time with the guys, getting to know them, getting on the same page with Matthew (Stafford), and just kind of gelling with the whole team right now,” Adams said on Tuesday, via the team’s official website. “It feels like I’ve been on this team for a couple years now, just based off of how open and receptive the guys have been to me.”

The Rams will hold a minicamp with limited on-field work next week in Maui before breaking for the summer. Adams has used the organized team activities (OTAs) over the last few weeks to develop his chemistry with Stafford, head coach Sean McVay and his new Rams teammates.

Tuesday, Adams impressed. For years, he has had the reputation of getting open quickly and creating space throughout the course of a route between himself and a defender in a variety of ways. Whether from the slot — Adams hit a defender with a hip flip in tight space in the middle of the field and Stafford threw him a pass right as he got open and pivoted the opposite direction — or the perimeter, Adams had a high-volume workload and showed a brief glimpse at the potential of his role in the offense this year.

Stafford has also long been known for his creative play, working different arm angles and capitalizing on defenders’ mistakes regardless of the practice script. That has also been energizing for Adams.

“Based off a couple we had today, he don’t care what that coverage says — if they’re not playing that coverage right, you might get the ball still,” said Adams, laughing.

Adams and Stafford talk frequently between plays about timing, placement and both players adjust where necessary.

“It makes it easy for a guy like me, because I’ll run a route and expect that I’m supposed to run out of (it) a little bit quicker, maybe I had to dive to catch it or something like that, and he’s saying ‘that’s on me, I’ve got to put it on you’ versus telling me that I have to do it a different way,” Adams said. “Which I’m completely OK with, too! I’m the new guy here. A lot of times that’s how I look at it anyway. ‘How can I make (things) better?’ versus, ‘put a better ball on me.’

“As long as he’s throwing me the ball, I’ll figure out a way to get it. (But) him being a man like that obviously helps this whole thing go a lot smoother and us get on the same page a lot faster.”

In stretch lines before practice or in between drills, McVay spends extra time with Adams as the two actually get to know each other following McVay’s heated pursuit of Adams in free agency in March.

“A lot of it is asking questions about things that maybe I’ve seen over the course of his career, or how do we apply it, or how is it maybe similar to the things I’ve seen him do,” McVay said. “He loves football. There’s a consistent passion, there’s a real understanding of how it all kind of fits together (with) spacing, timing, rhythm. We talk about other stuff outside of football. The way his mind works, I’ve really enjoyed being able to learn from him as well.”

The two have even talked on the phone after Adams does some of his film study at night, whether to make adjustments or clarify different concepts.

“The way he sees the game is pretty impressive,” said McVay. “I mean, he sees the game through a quarterback lens. He’s got so many experiences and really understands it from an All-22 perspective.”

The caveat on everything this time of year is just that: it’s the spring. There are no pads, and everyone feels great.

But Adams’ energy on the field and in meetings during the voluntary workouts even in his 12th season — even as “the new guy” — backs up his positive talk.

“It’s just about ball (here), it’s no other B.S.,” he said. “Got a really good quarterback in here, a really good young team that shows a lot of promise. … Just knowing how hungry this team is and seeing the work that they’re still putting in after having a year like last year, it just kind of confirms that I’m in the right place.”

    from https://www.therams.com/news/i-would-say-i-ve-grown-more-on-the-football-iq-side-jordan-whittington-on-growth-over-past-year-applying-guidance-from-cooper-kupp-and-now-davante-adams

More than 12 months after arriving as a rookie seventh-round draft pick, the former Texas standout [Jordan Whittington] is settling into preparing for his second season armed with an All-Rookie Team season as a kick returner and a wealth of knowledge from two veteran NFL receivers.

“I would say I’ve grown more on the football IQ side, just going through a full season, getting more familiar with the game at the NFL level, and having Cooper (Kupp) last year, and then now having Davante (Adams), those are two people that I’ve been able to pick their brains and get a lot of knowledge from them,” Whittington told theRams.com earlier this week. “So I think the transition from (year) one to (year) two, it definitely was great, and I could see that kind of throughout the OTAs, and stuff moving slower and just knowing more of the detailed stuff.”

Being able to make an impact on special teams – where he remained willing to play in college even as his role on offense expanded – meant a lot to him and accomplished a personal goal.

“First, just the whole year was a blessing,” Whittington said. “We got to go through the ups and downs, have a great season. And, yeah, I’m just glad I got to contribute to the team. And I was happy to just to be here, because there was a point where I didn’t think that I would be in the NFL, and then now I’m here. So every rep, every practice, I got to take it and take advantage of the opportunities that I get. But yeah, just being able to help the team any way I could, that was a big goal for me.”

Entering Year 2, Whittington is focused on growing his knowledge of the game and defenses, as well as concepts and the details with it. “Being a technician” is also a priority, as he applies advice received from Adams and fellow receivers Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell onto the field.

Puka is currently playing under a 4-year, $4.08M contract as a former 5th round pick. He has 2,476 yards on 184 receptions & 9 TD’s in 2 years.

That is 7th best amongst all receivers over the last 2 years, behind Lamb, Chase, St. Brown, Hill, Jefferson and AJB. Spot-on take.

Adams has been with the Rams for a few months now and needless to say, he’s loved his time so far. He was on the “Dan Patrick Show” this week and was effusive with praise for McVay when asked what the Rams coach is like.

“Just like everybody says,” Adams said. “I haven’t heard anybody say anything different about McVay. I think of any coach ever spoken about to me, it’s been the most uniform feedback ever. And then I got around him and he completely validated all of it.”

In his career, Adams played for Mike McCarthy, Matt LaFleur, Josh McDaniels, Antonio Pierce and Jeff Ulbrich, so it’s been a mix of good and bad. But with McVay, Adams loves the energy he brings every day and the way he coaches.

Adams says McVay isn’t someone who ridicules his players for making mistakes, which he appreciates.

“He’s got energy, but it’s all legit. It’s real,” he added. “You can feel him. You just love being around his energy. Even when you don’t do things right, you may have messed something up, you don’t feel that, like, ‘Oh, my coach is going to come down on me.’ He’s going to correct you and he’s going to hold you accountable, but it’s just a different feeling in that building right now, for sure.”

This stuff coming from Adams is fascinating. If being happy with an environment is a contributor to success, Adams…is in the right environment.

Countdown to Camp: Puka Nacua’s continued ascent, Davante Adams’ arrival give Rams intriguing options at wide receiver

    Stu Jackson

    https://www.therams.com/news/countdown-to-camp-puka-nacua-s-continued-ascent-davante-adams-arrival-give-rams-intriguing-options-at-wide-receiver

Head coach Sean McVay spoke in January about wanting a more versatile offense, regardless of the health of personnel. Among the moves aligned to that vision were releasing Cooper Kupp two months later and signing Davante Adams.

Los Angeles had been accustomed to the duo of Kupp and Puka Nacua over the last two seasons. Now, a new partnership forms entering the 2025 season.

Both players excelled after the catch last season. According to Next Gen Stats, Nacua had the sixth-most in the league among wide receivers with 535; Adams had the 10th-most with 490.

The 32-year-old Adams, who said being in the Rams’ building has been “rejuvenating” for him, still has plenty left in the tank, evident in OTA practices this spring and what he showed late last season.

According to Yahoo Sports analyst Matt Harmon’s research, Adams had at least an 80% success rate on six different routes on the standard route tree.

Adams also remains lethal as a contested catch target in the redzone, as Rams staff writer Wyatt Miller pointed out in his research from May. His eight such touchdowns inside the 20 are most in the NFL over the last three years.

Adams has also imparted his wisdom on Nacua and the rest of the receivers, whether it be tips on technique or ideas for the offense.

“I think the suddenness and the ability to steal leverage at the line of scrimmage has been something that he thrives on and everybody in the NFL knows that’s something that is one of his greatest assets and to be able to figure that out and how that works in our route concepts and the timing of our offense,” Nacua said of the advice Adams has given. “So I’d say that’s been one of the biggest things.”

“He’s all that was advertised, everything I thought he was and what the coaches thought he was, he is,” Yarber told theRams.com earlier this summer. “He’s been a great leader in that room, mentoring the younger guys, being vulnerable, telling them about his struggles early on, helping them out however he can.”

Meanwhile, Tutu Atwell’s return will help stretch the field vertically. Yarber also said Atwell knows all the receiver spots in the team’s offense.

Additionally, Jordan Whittington enters his second season having improved in “all aspects” of his game, according to Yarber. Coming off a rookie campaign in which he made the most of limited opportunities on offense, Whittington’s confidence has also improved.

Collectively, the established and ascending talent make Los Angeles’ wide receivers a group to watch closely in 2025.

    32. WR PUKA NACUA, LOS ANGELES RAMS
Nacua played only 11 games in 2024 due to injury but still finished with the NFL’s highest receiving grade at 93.0. He’s also coming off a 1,486-yard rookie season in 2022. Over the past two years, he ranks seventh among receivers in PFF WAR (1.01). The scary part? Nacua is still getting better, building on an already elite level of production and efficiency.

Los Angeles Rams: WR Puka Nacua
Aaron Donald was always the easy choice for this exercise, as was Cooper Kupp. But now that both players are gone, the decision is a little harder. Thinking of the player the Rams can least afford to lose, I think it’s Nacua. He just does everything well, from turning screens into big gains to running dig routes over the middle for large chunks of yards. He’s a good blocker in the run game, too, which adds even more value in a scheme like the Rams’. There’s a reason the offense took off last season after Nacua returned from injury, showing just how valuable he is as a receiver. As long as he can stay healthy and available, he’ll go for at least 1,200 yards in his sleep – even with Davante Adams now in the mix at receiver. – Cameron DaSilva, Rams Wire

    1. Davante Adams, WR: Signed by Los Angeles Rams
Adams is an immediate upgrade over Cooper Kupp given his ability to still shake press coverage and separate as the “X” receiver. Opposite Puka Nacua, Adams can isolate to win one-on-one or attack the schemed voids in Sean McVay’s pass game.

With five straight seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards, he is at the top of this list because he can elevate a Rams team primed to make a run in the NFC playoffs.

Davante Adams details ‘natural connection’ with Sean McVay, mutually beneficial relationship with Rams’ WR room

    Wyatt Miller

    https://www.therams.com/news/davante-adams-details-natural-connection-with-sean-mcvay-mutually-beneficial-relationship-with-rams-wr-room

LOS ANGELES – When wide receiver Davante Adams walked into the Rams’ facility for the first time and laid eyes on head coach Sean McVay, he breathed a sigh of relief. After admiring each other from afar for many years, they would finally get to go to battle together.

Adams said they’ve built a “natural connection” that started when McVay was calling him in Japan this summer to recruit him to L.A. During the first week of Rams Training Camp presented by UNIFY Financial Credit Union, they could often be spotted chatting before practice or on the sidelines.

“I value it every time (we talk),” Adams said. “I mean, it may seem organic, but sometimes I seek it. I’ll see him over there and I’ll go walk over and I just know he gonna say something either funny or something that we can all grow from. He’s just that type of person.”

Just as McVay has left an imprint on Adams, the All-Pro wide receiver has done the same for his position group. Adams said the transition to Los Angeles has been “smooth” and they’ve built “a good foundation” during the offseason. He’s even picked up a few things from the younger players.

“I’ve really been enjoying the way the mastermind (McVay) has been able to kind of conduct some stuff over there,” Adams said in reference to the Rams’ offseason program. “Well, the masterminds, there’s a lot of people involved, but it’s just been fun, and like I said, the best part for me is just getting to know the guys and hanging out with them every day.”

One of those guys is fellow star Puka Nacua, who insisted that Adams lead position group drills during training camp so that he could see how the All-Pro approaches each rep.

“I laughed at it first because he was saying it almost like he’d been wanting to say it for a long time, but he didn’t really know how to say that,” Adams said.

But he recognized Nacua’s offer not only as a show of respect towards Adams, but as a way of helping his own progression. Adams said they talk through a lot of technique, so it’s easier for Nacua to watch Adams’ reps before he does it himself, as opposed to straining his neck to look back at Adams after just running a route.

The best questions he’s gotten from fellow wide outs have revolved around how he dissects coverages, as he so often wins on choice routes. Adams tries to simplify the answers as much as possible so that they, like him, can know what the defense is running and use that against them.

Adams isn’t “a walking wise-man” who drops nuggets of wisdom at every turn, he explained with a smile, but whenever something comes up, whether it’s in the meeting room or on the field, he chips in advice about how to get open or execute certain rotes.

“Me having seen a lot of doubles and different brackets and different things, I’ve had to look at coverage differently than other people and kind of take a deeper dive,” Adams said. “That part is actually some of the most enjoyable part of this thing for me, the cerebral game.”

Every day, things come up that someone in the Rams receiver room wants advice on, and Adams is happy to oblige. But the veteran also takes things from his younger teammates. It’s not that he’s discovering techniques he’s never seen before, but Adams said “the wheel’s always being reinvented,” so when something works, he takes note of it.

He mentioned rookie wide receiver Konata Mumpfield as someone who’s ran good routes and changed his pace advantageously. Adams feels like “a proud dad” watching Mumpfield work through his failures and then succeed after talking things through.

As Adams said earlier this offseason, the lack of a “dark cloud” hanging over his new facility is refreshing. All the good things he heard about McVay and the Rams’ culture have materialized, and that’s been a pleasant surprise.

“Everything that glitter ain’t gold, but this is looking pretty golden over here,” Adams said.

Davante Adams has been ‘blown away’ by Rams since joining the team

    https://sports.yahoo.com/article/davante-adams-blown-away-rams-193743784.html?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAADYUnPTRVR3-qThp4QridfGZwdKtSe4cm8zMLCIPo5BFrLvok_Wh7bVBFYLv96UmNxzOISaepnhduYieXq4oX7Mv_QMhy8W_0uOXNpAIDQLRjSMkGnGCe2tn9wNGsB-CEohXjUekVdR4Pvup5PZ1MbFvJVyCr222oKQTxmzIuHqn

Veteran receiver Davante Adams came to the Los Angeles Rams to win a Super Bowl, but he’s also been surprised by what he’s found on the team since he joined this offseason.

Adams told “The Pivot Podcast” that he’s been “blown away” by what he’s experienced on the Rams. This includes the team’s discipline and how they’ve bought into what head coach Sean McVay has curated in L.A.

“When you come to a place like this where the foundation is set, the staff knows what they’re doing, you know, the players are totally bought in. It’s a young team and one of the most disciplined groups of people I’ve ever been around,” Adams said. “This is a real disciplined football team and, obviously, I hope we can put it on tape that way and show it all year. But just based off what I’ve seen, man, I just, I’ve been blown away by this experience and what this can present.”

This isn’t the first time Adams has had glowing comments about his new team. Adams said he felt “rejuvenated” since joining the Rams because of how excited everyone is around him.

This is what many have come to expect from the McVay-led squad. The Rams have rebuilt themselves despite limited draft capital in recent years and have become one of the younger ascending teams in the NFL, thanks to savvy drafting and great coaching.

Adams, though, unlocks another level of the Rams offense the team hasn’t really seen since its Super Bowl run in 2021. The combination of him and Puka Nacua is already among the best in the league, and playing for a team that’s all-in on itself will do wonders for Adams in his 12th NFL season.

Tyler Higbee loves what he sees in Terrance Ferguson

Rams HC Sean McVay made it a point to ensure that he contacted Tyler Higbee before selecting rookie Terrance Ferguson. And it was that minor gesture of respect that started everything off on the right foot. After he was selected, Higbee reached out and offered to give Ferguson any help he might need.

It was that offer that set the stage for Higbee to become Ferguson’s mentor. But more than just a veteran to share wisdom. Higbee has invested positive feedback as well, as this quote demonstrates:

“He’s (Terrance Ferguson) showing some flashes of really good stuff. He’s gonna be a great ball player, and getting him out here and doing it day in and day out. So it’s been special to have him and (he’s) a great dude, and we’re excited to have him,” Higbee said.

Young receivers are giving coaches a lot to think about

It’s easy to get caught up in preseason hype when it comes to receivers, but this summer has shown how deep the Rams are at that position. Brennan Presley had 102 yards on six catches, Smith had 49 yards on four catches, Mario Williams caught a 38-yard touchdown pass on a post route and Tru Edwards caught the game-winner – one of several tough grabs by the rookie.

There’s a chance none of the young guys like Presley, Williams or Edwards will make the team, but they’re at least giving the coaching staff something to think about. You just never know what will happen after the top six receivers on the roster.

Who are going to be the 5th and 6th receivers?

The top 4 are Nacua, Adams, Atwell, and Whittington.

Here are the receivers who caught passes Saturday? (And several looked great doing it btw). Alphabetical order:

    Britain Covey
    Tru Edwards
    Konata Mumpfield
    Brennan Presley
    Xavier Smith
    Drake Stoops
    Mario Williams

FWIW, only Edwards is a tall guy–6’2. He caught the game winning TD. Mumpfield is 5’11. The rest are 5’9 or 5’8. Edwards btw is the son of a former receiver for the Steelers, Troy Edwards.

The standouts (in no particular order) were Edwards, Mumpfield, Presley, Smith, and Williams.

Covey, Smith, and Williams are also returners, so that’s a factor. So btw is Schrader.

Amazing, they’re building a very good WR unit while spending almost nothing in draft capital.

Nacua. As everyone knows, a 5th round pick.
Adams. Top market FA, though they didn’t overspend for him.
Atwell. gadget player (though maybe a good one this year), and a 2nd round pick. Highest pick spent in this unit.
Whittington. Developing player, has a knack to him, they say he made strides this off-season. 6th round pick.
Smith. 2023 UDFA and practice squad type who developed both as a returner and receiver. He too made strides in the off-season.
Mumpfield. Highly regarded 7th round pick with a lot of potential, a maestro type with great route running abilities.

On the practice squad, they have 2 more. 2025 UDFAs who stood out in the preseason. Brennan Presley and Tru Edwards. Both made clutch plays, and in fact, believe me, these 2 were the only reason to watch the preseason games. They’re very different. Presley is 5’8″, runs a 4.4, quick and agile, a college team captain. Tru Edwards is 6’2″, a tough and athletic guy who runs a 4.5. Both…from what we’ve seen so far…are gamers.

Los Angeles Rams: WR Davante Adams

Much of the Rams’ offensive success hinges on the health of quarterback Matthew Stafford, who is fighting a bad back (as well as Father Time), and offensive tackle Alaric Jackson, who missed most of training camp because of blood clots. Even in the worlds in which Jackson and Stafford are available for much of the season, a Cooper Kupp-size void appears in the offense for the first time in Sean McVay’s tenure as coach. But the Rams chose to move on from Kupp, who has really slowed down in recent seasons, and replace him with a stylistically different wide receiver in Adams.

Adams is more often used in isolation on the outside than Kupp ever was and excels as a go ball receiver — a role the Rams haven’t filled in years. If Adams benefits from the easy separation offered by McVay magic and brings an additional layer of matchup danger for opposing defenses, then even Jimmy Garoppolo could excel under center. But Adams also is 33, and for as technical and timeless as his game is, he cannot go the way of Kupp by failing to produce on McVay’s yards-after-catch-oriented opportunities.
