All I heard since May is what a stud Aaron Donald is. Well, I’m sorry, but I just did not see it during pre-season and if I didn’t see it then what makes me think I’ll see it from him when it counts?
Overrated? Just in the back of my mind a little voice is saying “Maybe”. Hope I’m wrong.

September 1, 2014 at 10:23 am #5758znModeratorYou didn’t see it during pre-season because much of the time he was playing nose tackle in place of Brockers, and that is not how he will be used during the season.
Donald IS a stud. It’s not just a matter of “hearing” that…he is. But he’s also not suited to be a nose tackle taking on double teams. That’s not his role.
September 1, 2014 at 10:26 am #5760GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantZack, if he’s a stud then he should have been making plays from the nose as well. He should be quicker than the Center. Obviously the coaches feel he can play nose or he wouldn’t be there.

What a nose tackle does is occupy 2 blockers to free up the other DT. That means he could play well the entire game and you would never hear his name and you certainly wouldn’t notice any plays.
And Donald DID make plays from the 3-tech DT spot when he played there.
You watch. Donald will be visible this year. Even though he’s rotating and will only be on the field part time. But they’re simply not going to play him as the NT in the base defense during the season. That was only a pre-season thing.

Yeah I love how the Cleveland announcers call that a “busted play.”
Well yeah it GOT busted. By Donald.

Yup a real clear example of what we’ve been hearing since April. One of Donalds first plays as a Ram was when he blew up the run play getting into the backfield forcing the back right into Quinn’s TFL against the Saints.Williams got him reps but kept his primary role under wraps this preseason.GRITS I predict a pleasant surprise for you next Sunday.
September 1, 2014 at 12:45 pm #5783InvaderRamModeratori expect us to see a lot of different things come sunday.
donald has been up and down this preseason. i think it goes to show just how difficult the defensive tackle position can be. even for someone as pro-ready as donald.
by the end of the season, i think we start to see the real aaron donald.

I’ll agree with the qualifier that the downs were happening after extended reps out of his position. As per Fisher his position/role is rotational inside pass rusher. A position so rare google can’t spell it. When in this role was when he was most impressive. At every down Nose DT the Center and Guard can adjust and compensate for Donalds quickness but when he comes in and the OL is use to Langford or Brockers we will see why he was regarded so highly in camp
September 1, 2014 at 6:24 pm #5805GreatRamNTheSkyParticipantMy judgment will remain in reserve. I’ll give him half the season to dazzle and I do mean dazzle me based upon what we all were told he is.

What were you told he is? He’s fast, quick, strong, and though under-sized, has pretty advanced hands technique for a penetrating type DT coming out of college (and Farr himself said that, which is interesting because Farr was a quick penetrating DT type who depended on good hands technique).
And yeah he should show some of that this year.
But he’s not an everyone starter, so watch for him.

September 2, 2014 at 1:07 pm #5880DakParticipantI’ve got no worries about Donald. He’ll make some plays. And, oftentimes, rookie DTs are barely noticeable in this league, even when drafted near the top of the 1st round.

Donald is probably my favorite draft pick
during the Snisher Era.
I think he’ll be a great playmaker
and game-changer, like Leanard Little
or Quinn. But he ‘is’ still just a rookie. He
hasn’t exactly reached his peak
yet, Grits.w
