    Some thoughts:

    I have not seen many of these films. Frankly, I don’t have an interest in many of them.

    So here are some comments from what I have seen:

    Rosamund Pike should win Best Actress for “Gone Girl”. She won’t. But she should. It was a fantastic performance.

    Julianne Moore will probably win for “Still Alice”. I saw that film as well, and while Moore is great as always, it’s a very subtle sort of low-key performance.

    Pike had the more complicated role.

    Michael Keaton should win for “Birdman”. In a film I did not particularly enjoy with characters I didn’t care for, Keaton’s performance is worthy of the statue. He plays a character with a lot of demons(not someone I liked or cared for but maybe that was the point)and he manages to make me think he’s not simply playing Michael Keaton.

    Streep–again? Really? “Into the Woods” sucked. The completely overlooked actress playing ben Affleck’s sister in “Gone Girl” should have gotten a nomination. Sorry–don’t know her name.

    And all the love for “Grand Budapest Hotel”?

    I don’t get it. But I’ve never been a Wes Anderson fan.

    A film I refuse to see: “Boyhood.”

    Eventually I will probably see, “American Sniper” and “The Imitation Game” and “Foxcatcher” but that might be it.

    My film of the year?

    No surprise: Gone Girl.
