The Bucs are an embarrassment. Lovie should have gotten a third year. Even worse, Jeff Fisher, who should be fired, is still the Head Coach.

My bet is that Fisher works out just fine this year.

Unless of course he once more has to deal with both a qb problem and OL issues (including youth and injuries). Cause those were the real cause of the record. IMO scapegoating the coach for that isn’t good football business.

Furthermore, I think there is value in continuity. Teams that constantly start over win less than teams that have continuity. And it’s Kroneke’s style to keep his team stable, so I never thought he WOULD fire Fisher. Whether he should or not is a fair question, but I’m still in favor of keeping Fisher and Snead. They have put together a lot of talent, and it hasn’t produced a winner because of the QBs. And even if you want to blame Snisher for the Foles disaster, I think that’s the only thing that they’ve really screwed up in four years.

Yeah, well, I don’t think he has any fans. I hope they don’t think that getting a new receivers coach is the answer. Pretty sure most of us just want the guy off the roster.

    Sure, he’ll say that.

I would say that he attempted much harder to find a way to get to L.A. than he has to find a way to stay in St. Louis. He stopped taking phone calls from the STL Mayor and MO Governor. At the same time, he was working with Inglewood’s Mayor. I mean, people aren’t stupid. It’s easy to see through.

Pretty easy to see through the argument that he has done his damnedest to build a team, spending to the cap every year, and STILL no fans come to the games. As if, you know, fans buy tickets to watch owners spend to the cap. I mean…I don’t even know how he could include that argument without being ashamed of himself. Not even his friends are going to fail to notice that his team hasn’t been worth buying tickets for in ten years.

    Nice responses, guys.

On Mr. KroenkeCo, yeah, he might not take anything personally. But, I’ve seen some corporate whackos make irrational decisions based on being dissed. “Cross me? OK, now you pay.” They never think they do it to their own detriment. But, I think it happens. In this case, SK is turning the Asshole Owner up to 11. How many owners flat-out refuse to talk to local media? How many would refuse to take calls from the Mayor and the Governor?

    Really.

The tenor changed suddendly at some point. It may have just been the exact time that he realized L.A. was doable, and nothing else. That, I could see as well. But, man, the way he’s crapping on the city on the way out … smells personal.

But Kroenke doesn’t talk to the media in Denver. Or about Arsenal FC. Kroenke doesn’t talk to the media about anything, anywhere.

    Avatar photoZooey

I’m wondering if somewhere along the way that SK felt disrespected in this process …

I really don’t know how L.A. fans like Joe could go through this type of thing and still follow the Rams so closely. If there’s anything that will keep me following, it could be this bunch of fans on this board right here. I can’t say that for sure, because honestly I get busy and I’m very stingy with my time.

And, really, as I get older, sports becomes less and less important to me. .. There are much worse things that can happen to you than to lose an NFL franchise (a second time).

I don’t think it’s a matter of disrespect with Stan. I don’t think anything is personal with him. It is all business. The man’s entire life has been business deals, making money. That’s what he does. He is one of those guys who is simply a Borg of Business. He is literally a Multi-national Corporation in human form. Corporations aren’t sentimental. St. Louis is simply a market. Los Angeles is a market. For Kroenkeco, Los Angeles is a better place to build Empire than St. Louis is. It is that simple.

And I agree with WV in the sense that his argument is entirely “legal” rather than emotional. There’s no name-calling or anything personal. It is “scorched earth” in the sense that he argues that St. Louis is entirely deficient as a marketplace. He doesn’t stop with just saying, “The dome isn’t 1st tier.” He wants to move. So he pulled out all the stops, and presented the most damning argument he could against St. Louis, and the most favorable argument he could towards his Inglewood project. If he pulled punches anywhere, it was on Carson.

And I fully agree with you on “time,” and on priorities. I have other things to do, too, things that matter. And sports…as much fun as they are…the longer I live, the more I am disappointed. My heart got broken on the scoreboard many times when I was a kid. And I saw my favorite players leave as free agents, and I saw rule changes I didn’t like, and traditions discarded, and the commodification of everything, and the price of paraphernalia and tickets skyrocket, and games get harder to watch on TV, and teams move away from loyal fans, and strikes, and lockouts, and replacement players, and it all just takes a toll. There are far, far more ways to be disappointed in sports than there are ways to find happiness. Only one team wins each year. Everyone else experiences some level of disappointment.

Bu you are certainly right when you say there are worse things that can happen to you.

I follow the Rams even when they are down, but if not for this band of brothers posting here, I wouldn’t spend as much time on them as I do.

You know, I think a lot of fans treat their fandom like a religion, and they cast disdain on “bandwagon” fans, and all that. I just am not wired that way. And I think all the disappointment in my teams, the owners, the management, the league, has just taught me that I should treat my loyalty the same way the owners treat their teams. I mean…Stan (and hosts of other owners before him) has shown he doesn’t care about the fans per se. Owners believe they don’t owe us anything. So I don’t see why we owe them anything. I don’t understand sports as religion. It’s a business arrangement. And if they provide a crappy product, I don’t have to give it my money. I’m NOT paying to watch the games, and I’m not paying $185 for a shirt that cost them $4 to make in China.

When the Rams left LA, I had to decide if I was dropping them as a fan or not. I, like other nomads, decided the zip code of their stadium wasn’t as important to me as the team and the history of it that I grew up with, and internalized. It was important, but not THAT important. To me. But “home” team was never a thing for me, since none of the teams I root for are local. Anyway, I just realized that the Rams are part of me. And I wasn’t going to let them take that from me. That was my decision. I just decided – as much as I didn’t want them to move – that geography was less important to me than other things.

Stan has taken a scorched earth policy.

Yeah, he completely set fire to St. Louis, not just for the Rams, but he argues that it is a losing business proposition for any team.

I don’t know, of course, what the counterarguments are on the economic issues surrounding the stadium and the city, but he clearly burned every bridge behind him. Wow.

I don’t know what his Plan B is, but it isn’t St. Louis.

Well, well, well. The Rams did their homework in preparing that argument. And they pretty thoroughly blast the riverfront stadium proposal. Their argument that the stadium proposal in St. Louis is a terrible deal surprised me, but if what they say is true…. Man. That was quite a read.

“The RSA Task Force’s post-arbitration proposal now is that the Rams can have a non-First Tier stadium if, but only if, the Rams and other private parties fund more than 70 percent of the
costs and assume all project risk, operating expenses and provide a venue for a
professional soccer team to compete with the Rams for corporate revenue
    opportunities.
The NFL and its Member Clubs should not relieve municipal stadium
authorities of their contractual commitments to the detriment of a Member Club.
This is bad business, and an interference with a Member Club’s contract rights.”

Be warned. If the Rams end up in the AFC I’m going join a militia and occupy the visitor’s center at our local state park until they’re back in the NFC.

I will join you there. Peacefully, of course. And I’m prepared to stay for years…as long as there is internet access and a big screen TV for the games.

Chip Kelley has expressed interest in the 9ers, and that makes sense. Kaepernick would probably be the kind of QB Kelley would want, and the 9ers would see Kelley as a chance to resurrect CK because Gabbert isn’t the answer. That’s what I think is going to happen in SF.

Yeah, the schedules are set. There will certainly be no divisional realignment for next year no matter what. But if it ends up being the Chargers and Raiders in LA, they could co-exist for one season. Or they could make the Raiders wait to leave Oakland until the stadium is completed while the Chargers play in the Coliseum. There has been some chat about the Chargers getting into LA earlier anyway so they can get the jump on fan loyalty. Why that is fair and reasonable, I have no idea, but I’ve read that more than once. Spanos seems to think it’s fair because he is closest to LA and claims fans in the area, though both the Raiders and Rams have fans in the area, too, and as I recall, one of the league studies showed the Rams had the most support of the 3 teams within LA itself. But that is the talk.

Anyway, I can’t help but feel somehow the Raiders are going to get the short end of the stick because they are not a Big Boy financially. They are going to get some kind of compromised deal I would think. They can’t do ANYTHING other than stay right where they are without somebody’s help, and I don’t think anybody wants to do them any kind of favors, especially expensive ones. So if the Chargers/Raiders/Carson deal wins out, I would expect the Raiders would move there later, and realignment would happen at that time.

The $500 million relocation fee can be paid in installments over the years, so the Raiders can do it. They will basically take out a 2nd mortgage.

I thought Blue Velvet was good, and I loved the first season of Twin Peaks. The second season of Twin Peaks was almost as disappointing as the sequel to The Matrix in terms of expectation/delivery. And I have pretty much hated everything else I’ve seen by Lynch. I just get the feeling that he is dragging his audience through weirdness and mud for the sake of it, and has no destination in mind. There is nothing at the end of a Lynch film except the feeling that I have been slimed for no particular payoff.

    Just occurred to me.

The only guy Kroenke needs to make happy is Spanos. If Spanos can be made happy, everybody will sign off on Kroenke’s move. Kroenke gets Spanos, and he gets all of Spanos’ friends. He has to let Spanos buy a cut of the stadium action.

    i used to be sure.

but i’m not so sure anymore.

based just on the stadium project i would think the inglewood stadium would be miles ahead. wondering if they’re trying to pressure stan into making a deal with spanos.

in the end i’d rather just not have to read articles on this ever again.

    I’m the same.

I was sure last March. Not so sure now.

And I wonder the same thing about Stan/Spanos. That they want something more from Kroenke, a little bigger slice of pie for Spanos. That is a possibility.

And I’d like the issue resolved this month instead of delaying it another year.

Well, I hate to get all RFL here, but I don’t think this will get fixed in one year. I agree with the Adequate Hypothesis which argues that the WRs are okay. I think they are. But I think a #1 WR makes them better than okay. I agree that Bailey is a goner, and Quick is doubtful. Is Welker even back next year? They need a #1 and another depth guy. And a TE.

But they will still be limited because they have QB issues. Mannion needs to carry a clipboard another year, I would think, and Foles and Keenum…well, we just saw that movie.

I would sure like to know what Weinke thinks.

You know, there are those who claim the issue isn’t really the receivers. I will post some CoachO on this as soon as I dig it up.

    .

The receivers are fine. They don’t need a total overhaul. IMO, they need a #1. If the Rams ever get a #1, all the other guys will be much more effective. They aren’t bad. But now with Bailey lost, they will definitely be acquiring help at that position, I have no doubt.

I wonder why Carson has more support. Is it cuz of Spanos? I can’t see that being a major factor somehow. LA is a business opportunity, not a popularity contest.

I do recall reading that owners prefer the Carson location.

I still think the big factor in this is that St. Louis has a pretty attractive plan.

i am okay with Boras, but I have to admit that it wouldn’t take much to look like an improvement over the Cignetti offense. Somebody mentioned Chudzinski. I remember liking what I read about him during a previous OC hunt. If he’s available, I’d kick the tires there, too. But I am fine with Boras.

What is more important is a QB and a WR.

Maybe you are just a product
    of that Cali-forn-I-A education system.

So are they going to LA or not?

    w
    v

I dunno. A year ago, I thought it was about 80% likely they would. I thought SK had the money to do it, he had the land, he had the political clearance, he had the team with the greatest LA legacy, he had a NFL West sizzling design, he had everything.

Meanwhile, the Raiders have no money, and nobody likes them.

But Spanos’ popularity among the gatekeepers combined with the impressive effort in St. Louis have certainly had an effect.

It’s gonna be interesting because neither project has 24 votes. Some owners are going to end up kissing their sister on this one.

Nobody wants the Raiders in LA, and nobody wants to pick up the Raiders’ tab.

Nobody wants to jam St. Louis which has put forward one of the most attractive proposals ever.

But they want a team or two in LA.

I’ve said all along I thought it would end up being the Rams and probably the Chargers, but there have been no rumors to that effect. I think I’d drop the Rams to 50-50 at this point, and if I had to lay money on it, I’d guess the league will defer this a year to see if anything breaks in San Diego.

And why the heck don’t the Raiders share the 9ers’ stadium?

Foles is way out in front for me as most disappointing.

Zeurlein has been increasingly disappointing to me, too. Part of that, though, is that he looked early like he would be an extra 3 points a game because of his leg strength, and his early perfection on long distance kicking. I thought he would break the distance record, too. And he just hasn’t. I don’t know what his statistics are, and how he compares with the rest of the league, but he “feels” like a disappointment. He’s no Money.

Of course, there’s McQuaide. But everyone understands it’s tough to follow a legend.

    So Havenstein looks good.

Brown was looking good early in the season, and was heralded by some as the best OL, iirc. Anyway, he looks good.

And Wichmann holds promise for backup depth at the least.

Only Donnal looked overmatched, but it’s too early to draw judgement on him. And Battle is a complete unknown, really.

But you have to tip your hat to Snisher/Boudreau. I think this line looks pretty good headed into next season.

QB, WR, and gawdhelpme – never thought I would say this – TE. Plus replacing whomever we lose in FA, of course.

    w

Yeah, that one popped out at me, too. I guess it’s just childish. “What concerns me most, concerns everyone most, so the Rams are probably calculating on throwing the game in an attempt to preserve the Head Coach’s job cuz he’s so terrible.”

    Here is the anti-stupid post:

“No way we win this one, rams are a better team…. tomsula gonna get canned regardless.”

Now, that guy is making sense.

The talkers on the radio in NoCal think Tomsula is a goner, fwiw. The players must not respect him, if that’s the case, because there was no way that team was going to win much this year with all the defections to FA and retirement. They lost at least 4 starters on defense alone. Only one was actually retirement age. They are screwed.

Which is a good thing, btw.

Here is something I like. From http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-football/25429380/man-loses-over-150k-after-betting-on-the-seahawks-to-beat-the-rams

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll was pretty disappointed after his team lost to the Rams on Sunday, but it’s probably safe to say that Carroll wasn’t quite as disappointed as the guy who lost over $150,000 after the Rams pulled off the 23-17 upset over Seattle.

According to ESPN.com, a high-roller walked into the Flamingo in Las Vegas and put $165,000 down on the Seahawks to beat the Rams straight-up.

The Seahawks were 12.5 point favorites in the game, so a $165,000 bet on Seattle to win wasn’t going to pay $165,000, it was only going to pay $15,000.

A Seahawks win was paying -1100, which means you’d have to bet $1100 to win $100. To the bettor, the Seahawks clearly seemed like a lock, which is why he was willing to put so much money down for such a small payout. Before Sunday, the Rams hadn’t won a regular season game in Seattle since 2004.

“This was a day you want to forget.”

That was Pete Carroll’s quote after the game, but I’m guessing our high-roller was thinking the same thing after Seattle’s loss.

Anyway, that’s this week’s lesson on why you should never gamble.

On the other hand, maybe it’s OK to dabble, after all. Case in point: a woman who admittedly knew nothing about gambling won $100,000 by making just a $5 bet on the NFL last week.

After yielding 500-plus yards for the second time in three games, the Rams have plummeted to 22nd in the league in total defense.

Well, I’m still very impressed with the Rams Redzone D.
The Redzone D is possibly the most important defensive
    stat.
