    Here, here, PA.

I agree with everything in your post, as do the majority of people in this country.

Apparently I’m not the only one this subject hit a nerve with. ZN, thank you for running interference here for me, but I’m not offended by any of the debate; in fact, I welcome it. I think it is important to know how others feel, and why they feel that way. I (and you, and PA, and VW, and X) can’t get our heads wrapped around why a ban on assault rifles is so controversial, so it is good to here from others with differing opinions.

As I kind of said already, I have ideals, and hopes and dreams, but I’d like to think I’m also a realist.

I’m not very optimistic about where we are going as a country; guns, no jobs, next stock market crash, Israel, Russia, etc.

    Buckle your seat belts…

Sorry, I’m done with this thread. Shouldn’t have gone here; still too raw.

My daughter, the light of my life, had several anxiety attacks at school in Boston. Walking down Commonwealth Ave, she looked up at church steeples and imagined what would happen if there was a shooter up there.

I died a bit, when I heard this. She is in therapy and is making progress, but it is baby steps.

I sincerely hope nobody else here has to deal with what me and mine are dealing with, but as long as a “rights” line is drawn in the sand, sorry bitches, get the front row seats on the hayride to Hell…

I don’t think anybody on my side of this discussion wants to repeal the 2nd Amendment. We’re idealists, but also realists.
I just want to get assault rifles banned. I’m sure there would be a grandfather clause, where they aren’t going to come and take your AK out of your cold, dead hands, but how in the wide world of sports can you claim a ban on additional sales of assault rifles is taking away one of your “rights”? (Speaking of rights, have you heard of this little thing known as the Patriot Act??).

I didn’t plan on starting an argument, just wanted to make my initial comment. After seeing what one sick fuck with an assault rifle can do, I fear that somebody with a similar weapon can take my children from me. This is the waking nightmare I and lots of my town folk have every fucking day.

Really? How about people are tired of having their brothers and mothers and daughters and friends taken away by bullets from guns.

In the spirit in which “the right to bear arms” was written, any American should be able to have a single shot rifle. Not a fucking AR-15.

Foles will have a good year because he is now going to be allowed to be a game manager, not a gunslinger. I think his years as a gunslinger will make him a better game manager and he will have several opportunities per game to throw the surprise long bomb (he may not do it, but if the ground game is going good, he’ll have the opportunities).

I think Bradford will also have a good year, getting back to a more wide open offence where he can let it rip.

    Horses for courses.

    Thanks, all.

Sorry I’m late in responding, I was working in Syracuse all week and didn’t get home until late on Friday.

“RF” is indeed for Rams Fan.

“TS” is for Tri State, as in Westchester County, NY, North Jersey, NJ, and Fairfield County, CT.

I live in Fairfield County, CT, which is truly part of Tri State. The rest of Connecticut is New England, but not us.

Besides the Rams, I’m a Yankee fan, a Rangers fan (very sad they lost Game 7 on my birthday), and, gods help me, a Knicks fan.

    51 and still going strong!

What I didn’t say, was that in my darkest hour, I needed someone to be mad at, and it was him. After I had a few days to simmer down, I realized that he was the mainstream early 21 century American opinion on gun control and that I, with my utopian idea of keeping assault rifles out of the hands of lunatics was the crazy one.

Once I realized I was the irrational one, I sort of apologized, and he accepted, and we moved on. I never really apologized, and now I’ll never have the chance, at least not on this reality.

    Shine on Thordaddy.

    Wow, still processing this…

TD and I were never “friends” where we posted. In fact, quite the opposite…
When Sandy Hook happened, and I lashed out at the gun industry, TD was there to say “take it out of my dead hands.”

He was very pro gun and this just pushed my crazy button. We had lots of crazy interactions, but here we are.

I miss TD. Hopefully, we will meet again.

“If you want to really hurt you parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake. Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.” — Kurt Vonnegut

    Hey Herzog.

I’ve been viewing this thread for a while, and haven’t replied until now because frankly I wasn’t sure if what I had to say would be helpful.

I too have used this particular board (and its other incarnations on other sites) to dig into the dirt of my psyche. For the most part, it has been helpful, but painful too.

My only advice is, don’t be sad, especially in front of your family. Be concerned, be angry if you have to be; be supportive. Maybe it is just semantics, but my understanding is sadness is an emotion felt regarding past events that cannot be changed. You, your family, your nephew hopefully aren’t at a point of no return.

I worked with a Radiation Effects Engineer from one of the main Prime Contractors a few years ago. We had to come up with a test plan for the IC’s and transistors used in our box, and then had to go test them at their facility.

In casual conversation, he stated that he believed low level radiation exposure was actually beneficial. His argument was that radiation kills off weak cells. Old cells are for the most part weaker than young cells. Old cells are also the ones that tend to mutate into cancer.

Who knows? Maybe cell phones really are good for us…

The wife and I actually saw this on in the theater. We watched it again on PPV with our kids, and, like most movies I guess, there is a big difference. On the big screen it was, well, Grander.

So many quirky, funny things going on and so many great actors, definitely worth several viewings. I am a big Bill Murray fan and was glad to see him in this movie, but my favorite “bit” roles were Jeff Goldblum as the lawyer and Willam Defoe as the assassin. The whole jail stuff was also pee your pants funny.

This is all qvite easy to explain… when the athlete accomplishes a feat that invokes intensely positive emotions, he regresses back to an earlier mental state when he had equally intense positive emotions and acts out on these feelings. These bridges to past emotional states can go all the way back, as evidenced by the Seattle Wide Receiver during the Super Bowl who travelled all the way back to his first poop not in a diaper. Such a happy boy! If only more players can travel that far back, past their first erections or first orgasms, we won’t see as many provocative displays…

Not for nothing, but I’m starting to feel good that we didn’t land K. Shanny as our OC. Sounds like a douche bag, and he axed Action Jackson.
Sounds like this guard would be a good pick up for the Rams, and I hope Steve Jax finds a new home. I would think he still has a year or two he can contribute.

OK, so if the Rams stay and the Chargers and the Raiders move to LA, one of those two would have to move to the NFC West and one of the current NFC West teams would have to move to the AFC West.

I read here (somewhere), that the Rams would be asked to move to the AFC, but if you look at the 4 NFC West teams, the Rams, Cards and 9ers have a long and rich NFC tradition (granted, the Cards were in the East for a lot of that); the Seahawks were actually an AFC team for the majority of their NFL history.

When I look at the current AFC West, IMO, the Raiders have a stronger AFC identity than the Chargers. I think it is because of Al Davis being the maverick owner and the AFC being the upstart league. I have a much easier time seeing the Chargers as an NFC team than the Raiders.

    My Favorite Realignment:

NFC West: Rams, 9ers, Cards, Chargers
AFC West: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders, Seahawks

    Less favored:

NFC West: Rams, 9ers, Cards, Raiders
AFC West: Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Seahawks

    Don’t like:

NFC West: Seahawks, 9ers, Cards, Chargers
AFC West: Broncos, Chiefs, Raiders, Rams

    Really Don’t Like:

NFC West: Seahawks, 9ers, Cards, Raiders
AFC West: Broncos, Chiefs, Chargers, Rams
