I would like to know what caused the divide between Fisher and Snead
One story out there seemed to be that Snead screwed up re-signing Jenkins. Here’s the article from the time that started the “toxic Rams” discussion.
link: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/rams-junior-high-inside-a-dysfunctional-front-office/
.IIRC the GM doesn’t work out the details of contracts nor try and fit players in to the cap…that all fall under KD and his wiz kid in the office.
It seems as though Fisher is blaming some of the failed picks on Snead and Co.
Am I not reading that correctly or what?
sanbaggerParticipantDidn’t Snead and Fisher have a bromance in year 1?
I would like to know what caused the divide between Fisher and Snead…cause I’m a little over this Snead and McV gushing over each other thing.
To be clear…I like Snead and was not in the fire him camp….just this is starting to be a little over the top IMO.
sanbaggerParticipantI knew I wasn’t the only one that knew that…WV wins the prize.
sanbaggerParticipanta nonstop ball of butcher knives
Good enough for me.
I’m sold.
My only question is: How can you NOT draft a player described as a “nonstop ball of butcher knives?”
Did all the teams that passed on him not see that quote?
lol…that was my feeling as well.
That quote has shot up my list as all time favorites from the draft.
Edit to add…I guess we can now call him ‘Sam the butcher’….for all you old timers (like me) what show did that come from…it’s an easy one.

sanbaggerParticipantI admit..I’m still a blue and yellow guy but I am starting to like the blue and white better.
The uniform will look better when they can shed the old colors from the jersey.
Edit….They kinda remind me of the old Baltimore Colts

sanbaggerParticipantI think they are gonna have some interesting cuts this year at couple of different positions.
I think they keep 6 WR’s on the 53
WR locks – TA, Woods, Kupp, Reynolds
WR bubble guys – Spruce, Thomas, Cooper, Marquez
WR’s cuts – McRoberts, ShippenMy thoughts on the bubble guys – Spruce had better come to camp healthy and show great hands and an ability to get open or he’ll find himself cut.
Thomas has big play ability and was a beast on ST’s….I think he makes the cut.
Cooper is an enigma to me. I have never been as over the moon on this guy as some, to me he’s just a guy and now that Fish, who loved him, is gone…he just might meet the Turk.
Marquez is a beast on ST’s…if there is a spot for a pure STer he might get that but I don’t think so.
At the end of the day I think Thomas and Spruce are the leaders in the clubhouse to land the 5th and 6th spots.
sanbaggerParticipantThanks Nittany…that was a good read…I might just have to buy that book.
May 2, 2017 at 10:16 am in reply to: Biggest post-draft questions still to be answered by the Rams #68289sanbaggerParticipantSeems to me that apart from Woods, all the WRs are slot receivers. I know Kupp got used on the outside in college, and I’ve got to think that is where he’s bound with the Rams although that may not be where he is best suited. But I can’t see Austin, Spruce, or Cooper out there. And all the other guys – Thomas, Marquez, McRoberts, North – should pack lightly. Spruce and Cooper may be vulnerable, but Woods, Kupp, Austin, and Reynolds are 4 of the 6 unless IR comes into it. Reynolds is the one to watch, as far as I’m concerned. If that guy can actually run short and medium routes as well as flying downfield, then things get interesting vis a vis Austin.
We seem to have more of the slot type of wr’s than a true X or Y.
I do believe McV when he says he’s gonna move them around but I also think they are gonna try and have TA fill the DJax role.
None of the wr’s drafted were true burners…that tells me they were placing a higher emphasis on actually catching the ball when they get their hands on it.
Do not sleep on Thomas…that guy really opened my eyes last year and if he can just hang on to the ball, the only thing that will keep him out of the line-up IMO, he is gonna start to stand out this year IMO.
sanbaggerParticipantSB, to be clear, this is my view: no one–no team–has the next guy up when OLs get THAT injured. In fact I consider it a myth that it’s even possible.
Fair enough…and you back your view with some very interesting points.
Here is my view….I take everything you posted in to account and put that up against what I watched week in and week out and what I read from players and coaches saying the O-line/RB’s weren’t on the same page and my conclusion is Boo did not do a good enough job.
I defended Boo for a lot of years but Sanbagger is officially off that train.
May 2, 2017 at 9:51 am in reply to: Biggest post-draft questions still to be answered by the Rams #68285sanbaggerParticipantThanks Zn…I looked around and didn’t find anything showing ST snap counts and I don’t subscribe to PFF.
Good to know he has some ST experience it could only help.I wouldn’t be surprised to see 4 TE’s on the final roster…if they keep just 3 that might allow Harkey to sneak in a spot while Rogers adjusts to the NFL.
My guess is Harkey is a casualty.
May 2, 2017 at 7:52 am in reply to: Biggest post-draft questions still to be answered by the Rams #68279sanbaggerParticipantAre Cory Harkey’s days with the Rams over?
I hope not. I’m a fan of Harkey and the role that he plays on he Rams. Harkey had a slower 40 time than Rogers, but I like that he outweighs Rogers by nearly 30lbs.
I like Harkey as well but I just don’t see them keeping 2 FB’s.
Rogers also is known as a very good ST’s player and if I remember correctly, I don’t believe Harkey was in on the ST’s.
sanbaggerParticipantInteresting read…thanks for posting Zn.
Admittedly I’m firmly in the O-line drama mess…but then I have lived under that bridge for a few years now.
I believe the best teams are strong in the trenches but I also realize there are different approaches to getting them there…the fact that it was a weak O-line class and the Rams already invested in that area actually makes sense…now just coach’em up I guess.
I will officially drop my O-line whining now….until next draft that is I guess.
sanbaggerParticipant1. The Rams had decent OLs and good OL coaching from 2012-2015, but what hurt them was injuries. I mean massive, extensive injuries. Sometimes this gets responded to with people saying “well all teams have injuries”—and no, not all teams have unit killing multiple extensive simultaneous injuries to their OLs. And the ones that do generally suffer (unless they have a qb who can still excel in those conditions, like Brady or Wilson).
2. In fact when the Rams OLs were relatively healthy from the 2nd half of 2012 through 2013, they did fine. When they were multiply injured and/or very inexperienced (2015) they predictably did not do as well.
3. They were awful in 2016 but that came from a lot of causes. To me 2016 was a perfect cluster storm of multiple things all going wrong at once. I think 2016 was unique.
4. 2016 is over, Kromer has a nice history, and he has indicated that in fact in Buffalo he was looking at some of the guys the Rams drafted in 2015. So he thinks there’s guys to work with. We agree they better be right, but still. Plus of course they added Whitworth and Sullivan (I am one of those who believes Sullivan has already shown he can still play). SO it is possible that they could get back to being decent. I absolutely would not rule that out, though of course, I ain’t committing to full optimism on this until we have visible on the field evidence.
my views on your views….
1) I agree they had serviceable lines during that period and if they had good coaching in 2015 they had to have had good coaching in 2016 since it was the same guy.
I’m not sold on Boo as since the injuries so decimated them they didn’t really have the next guy up….and I know the numbers, I have read your posts on this many times. Lets just go with I mostly agree with point 1.2) I will also agree with point 2 courtesy of your aforementioned postings.
3) They were flat out dreadful last year. One of the coaches told me that when Kromer watched the tape of the 2016 Rams line he said they were a mess and didn’t even appear to be on the same page (plays). That is 100% coaching…and I know Boo is very highly thought of in the coaching circles…that said, I do agree that were many different variables at play that could have led to distractions for the players.
4) I’m also very excited about the addition of Kromer and Whitworth not as much with regards to Sullivan. I agree that through good coaching and a fresh revamping this line could be decent (average).
sanbaggerParticipantThey had a veteran minicamp before the draft. Kromer had a chance to see how his young center prospects are looking. That was apparently enough of an indication for them to take OL off the board when the draft came up.
That’s the key for me…and I don’t think they were sold on the depth of the O-line in this draft.
All that said….I agree, it has to work and hope the curse of the O-line has been wiped out by McV and Kromer.
sanbaggerParticipantMaybe a little harsh because I wanted a Center this year….again. Well, there’s always next year….again.
=================
On Spruce, looks to me like Kupp is a more athletic version of Spruce. I like Spruce but Kupp
looks like he has more to offer than Spruce. The Center issue — this seems to be the one issue that is bothering Ram fans all over the internet.
I dont have the slightest idea whether McV and his OLine coach have solved that problem, but if they havent its going to be a long year. Lets hope they know what they are doing.w
vYea…I’ve read that about Kupp….It will interesting to see them head to head in pre-season to take a look at the comparison.
I think Kromer is gonna get a back-up Center from what is already available…hopefully it pans out sooner rather than later as we are a knee injury from trouble right now IMO.

sanbaggerParticipantI’m giving them a “C” but then I have no idea so it’s a fairly safe grade. There isn’t one pick who stands out to me that makes me go: “YEAH!”. It’s more like a bunch of bodies who may bring certain skills which will allow the offense to exploit things–as zn said.
I really was hoping they’d find a center somewhere in the draft but it didn’t work out that way.
Everett? A lot seems to be riding on “potential”. I’m not saying he wasn’t productive. But it was a smaller school and that always gives me the “Brian Quick” heebee jeebees. But of course–I hope he’s much better than that. And he can’t be worse, really. Obviously tight ends are going to be important.
Kupp? I just find myself wondering if a healthy Spruce could not have offered the same thing that Kupp will bring. But can Spruce stay healthy/ Good question. In any case, his value was fantastic for a 3rd round pick.
The others? Just names to me for now.
I hope they all pan out but some obviously won’t.
Still, I do think that these players were picked with Phillips and McVay in mind–and what they want to do. I see a bunch of role players–hopefully solid role players and championship teams certainly need that.
The stars will still have to be Gurley, Goff, and Austin. If those three perform then these role players will be just what the team needs. But a team needs some stars too and a coach with a plan.
Stay tuned.
I agree with just about all of this. I’m grading them on my criteria and what I wanted….so a C it is.
Why draft a fullback? I love Harkey….does the team have room for 2 FB’s?
Kupp reminds me of another Spruce…but I can’t deny the production.
Maybe a little harsh because I wanted a Center this year….again. Well, there’s always next year….again.
sanbaggerParticipantThat was an interesting read thanks for posting Ag.
I think McV and Co. are gonna transition TA to more of the DJax role, or attempt to, so it will be interesting to see what his numbers show now that he’ll be running flat out.
sanbaggerParticipantI’ll MTL click in and out…gotta keep an eye on what’s happening and if any juicy rumors are cropping up…but I won’t be glued like usual.
sanbaggerParticipantThankz for the read Zn…I had heard of gap for the D-line but not for the O-line…so he threw me for a loop on that one.
I fireballed him with several questions but didn’t want to make him uncomfortable.
sanbaggerParticipantUpdate.I asked if Kromer was a zone block scheme or a man block…I was told he was gonna be more of a gap block scheme….not sure what to take from that.
I will say this…the O-line coach in San Diego absolutely loves Kromer and is his disciple…I think the Chargers O-line will be very similar to what the Rams run.
By the way….The coach had his superbowl ring from the Broncos and I had a picture with it on my finger…that thing is amazing…got the pic on my phone, if I can I will post it here,
April 16, 2017 at 9:44 am in reply to: Football Outsiders says Rams were healthiest team in 2016 #67500sanbaggerParticipantMakes you wonder.
Maybe the cause of all those multiple times extremely a lot OL injuries over the years came from playing in the dome.
Just a thought.
I often wondered if the turf of the Dome had a hand in the rash of injuries the Rams endured.
Then I would read stories talking about the turf they had and how great it was…so…IDK.
I would think, other teams players would get injuries while playing the good guys at the Dome….then, a direct correlation could be drawn I guess.
April 15, 2017 at 8:51 pm in reply to: awful story…ex- NFL tight end Todd Heap accidentally kills 3-year-old daughter #67486sanbaggerParticipantI can’t think of anything that would be more devastating than to be the cause of my own child’s death.
I can’t imagine the hurt this man is going through at this time.
My prayers are extended to the Heap family.
April 15, 2017 at 7:22 pm in reply to: Interviews (4/13-4/15): Whitworth w/Clayton (audio) … + Barwin, Higbee, Cooper #67480sanbaggerParticipantTyler and Pharoah, I’m afraid, are not destined to be known as sharp thinkers.
i don’t think intelligence was high on fisher’s list of priorities for player evaluation.
hopefully, mcvay places that near the top of his list.
McV has stated that he places an emphasis on character and intelligence….and I agree, that had a part in the Woods signing.
I don’t think he’s quite the four pillars, but I do think the plan is to shape the team up a bit starting asap.
sanbaggerParticipantYou know how he we question things like “who made that selection” or “who decided to bring in that free agent”? Well…in Denver, those types of questions are non existent because there is no doubt who made the call.
Would Peyton have that type of power in LA?…My guy says NO.
sanbaggerParticipantI have enjoyed my short time on this board….it is chock full of knowledgeable posters with differing views that don’t regress to the name calling, and I find that refreshing.
I also like the vast amount of info available here….at times I find myself doing more reading than posting…sweet.
Keep up the good work guys.
sanbaggerParticipantI am skeptical that GRob can play RT at a high level.
I’m concerned he’s gonna get Goff killed at some point.
Why not keep Hav at RT and put GRob at guard?
w
vKinda my thoughts as well…maybe to a slightly lesser degree regarding GRob’s ability to handle RT.
I personally think they are gonna give GRob a shot, but he doesn’t have the length of rope he has had the previous years…I really believe these guys will move him or bench him if he just isn’t getting it…in other words, he isn’t protected any longer…sink or swim young Jedi.
As far as the Hav to giard situation…this just might be a good thing for him. I know he’s a little tall for a guard, but he has shown that once he get’s locked up with a guy he rarely get’s beat.
sanbaggerParticipantI would like to add to this.
I’m in San Diego at a hotel again and staying at the same hotel are several Chargers coaches….one of which has spent several seasons working for Kromer…at Buffalo and Chicago….and now has a similar position with the Chargers.
He has the utmost respect for Kromer and in his opinion he is one of the best O-line coaches in the NFL. He also went on to say he is a “technician”…not sure what he meant by that.
I have more to add…but timing isn’t right.
I have several more questions for him…I probably could bore the beejeesus out of him, but I have to casually drop it in.
I’m gonna grill some lamb chops tonight (I love them) maybe they’ll be hangin around the grill and I can pry some more info.
Just thought I would share…I know it’s not much, but it’s good to hear some good things about our new O-line coach.
April 8, 2017 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Browns wide receiver Kenny Britt trash-talking the Rams #67145sanbaggerParticipantBritt has always been a bit of a prickly pear…a bomb just sitting there waiting to go off…well, it went off.
Britt thinks he’s one of the best in the game and it probably angers him when he sees guys like Austin, who he feels is inferior, gettin paid while he had to pack his bags and head to Cleveland.
I’m glad TA didn’t take the bait and post a retaliatory post…KB looks like the spoiled little kid and TA looks like the mature professional.
sanbaggerParticipantNow that they have signed their stop gap Center, I really don’t see them spending a 2nd or a 3rd on a Center unless they trade back a couple of spots and pick up an extra pick.
The more I’m looking at it the more I’m convinced they are gonna draft a TE early.
To be clear…Ole Sanbag still wants Elfein
MLB Opening day just happened, the Maters is kicking off this weekend, and the Draft just around the corner…good stuff for a sports junkie like me.
